A quirky, funny and wonderfully weird story about a dysfunctional, loving family on a road trip.
Poignant, comic with a surprise round every corner. Very satisfying
Love this movie. Love VW Kombi vans. Best road movie ever. 'She's a very funky girl'! HIlarious!!!
Loved this movie! A very accurate depiction of the family road trip and Alan Arkin is so funny and entertaining to watch. With a lovable cast (except for Greg Kinnear) this is a great story. Unfortunately it wouldn't be suitable for young kids due to excessive bad language but for everyone else - must watch!
Certainly this a movie you either love it or hate it. I didn't like it. At all.
This is a goofy but engaging comedy with extreme but human characters who develop during the course of the movie. The 7-yr-old daughter dreams unrealistically big and the rest of the dysfunctional family, with various levels of enthusiasm, try to make it happen for her. Their road trip is a black comedy unlike others. The other contestants in the pageant are dressed and made up as little adults: truly gross. A bit slapstick at times but there are plenty of laughs, and the girl's drug-addled grandpa gets all the good lines.
This is a typical Yank dysfunctional family using drugs, very foul language, being totally disorganized, and displaying all that is negative. Such thrash should never be written, let alone be distributed as 'film'!
I like the concept of the movie but the swearing just diminished the goodness
Didnt finish watching it, didn't like the language and suggestiveness. Yuk!
This is an off-beat comedy. I enjoyed and the family although disfunctional felt more real than most movie families. Toni Collete as usual was brilliant and Abigail Breslin is fantastic as the little beauty queen wanabe dancing to super-freak.
A really enjoyable film it was so quirky and funny you would expect it to be an Australian film it had that feel about it. Really great!
LOL Funny but also made me cry (just the once).
Uterly crass! Soooo much swearing. Walked out after 20 minutes.
Apart from moderate appeal of Miss Sunshine this is not much of a movie.
What family of individuals thrown together going on a life changing tour to L.A. to compete in the Little Miss Sunshine Contest which turns out to be very different to what this contraversial family expected. All are surprised, some even discusted, by the little girls performance. But she steals the show!!!
Good movie, basic storyline but worth the watch, some very funny moments
A decidedly weird family on a road trip. Some of this is hilarious, but at other times the humour fails miserably or is simply cringe-worthy. Toni Collette is believably American, which is a shame!
Perfect picture, people could relate to.
Comedy was very good. Except I did not like the use of swear words in the movie. The actual script has about 53 four letters word in it. Not really necessary if you have a good script.
Rated M for the language and frequent use of the "f" word but it isn't inappropriate in the context of the story. Enjoyed it but thought that the opportunity was lost to really nail Olive's routine. It was a bit weak and detracted a little from what could have been. Stll, a fun movie.
Good movie, funny moments but little disappointed in the ending.
I did not enjoy this movie. The story was a good one however it was spoiled by too much swearing and some bad acting.
I loved this. As good as the first time I saw it. The Grandpa cracks me up. Has nothing Disney about it - which is the best part.
Steve Carrell is outstanding and the little girl is a real kid. Safe viewing for the family (of older kids/teens if you don't mind the f - bomb now and again.
Very funny blackish comedy about a road trip from hell for a dysfunctional family.
Hey not one of the greatest movies I have seen. But the interaction of characters through out the whole film plus the almost perfect ending makes it a wonderful film to watch. Fantastic.
I actually liked this film. Toni Collette was fabulous in the movie as was Abigail Breslin. I thought it was a bit slow to start off with but an enjoyable film all the same
This movie is one of the best films i have seen for a while. Its a movie for the whole family. The cast is terrific and the story line is great. I think you will enjoy watching this movie.
Offbeat humour and a wonderful cast - one of my favorite comedy films.
I enjoyed the adult characters in this and the way the mother held it all together. Its a journey, bit over the top but hey, its a movie. Great story with the girl and ending was wonderful. Maybe too much for "normal" people but I laughed!
A hilariously funny movie, yet was heartwarming
Hilarious! I saw this one at the cinema, and just had to see it again. It's one of those movies that if you didn't know anything about it other than the synopsis, you might just give it a miss. However, being that it's such a varied cast, somehow it works really well! Definitely see this one.
Excellent movie, great acting, also very very funny and witty. Tears of laughter at times. Good insight into those ghastly Child Pageants. After movie, watch Directors' review - very interesting. Not a kid's movie even though its lead character is a child.
Didnt really enjoy this movie. Was a great cast but they didnt deliver. I think the reviews conned me in to thinking that this would be a big hit. Let down from start to finish
Good story with some laughter add to it.
Loved it. Great acting. Good insight into this world where little kids are trained to be beautiful robots. Terrific viewing.
Excellent. Granddads influence made me laugh unit it hurt..
This quirky tale about a family quest to get to the Little Miss Sunshine concert has a great mixture of tragedy and comedy, with an eventual outcome that probably no one could guess. Even the directors came up with alternative endings!
Humourous enough but mainly only when Alan Arkin's character of the grandfather is in it. Once he's out of it it's mildly entertaining only.
A very humorous take on a dysfunctional family., with a credible resolution.
A delightful story about a dysfunctional family who , through adversity eventually find and understand each other's true value to each other.
Toni Collette: what a star!!!!
The name led me to believe this movie would be one of those sugary-sweet movies, best suited to pre-pubescent girls, but on seeing a trailer for it, I decided to check it out. Well, what a movie! Had me laughing throughout, even when I had tears in my eyes at the few sad parts. A wonderful movie, uplifting, thought provoking, and guaranteed to put a smile on the watcher's face for the rest of their day.
Loved it! One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I watched it twice. Hillarious!
started off slow but very human feel to the story, great for the family to watch.
A quirky little comedy that than manages to be freshly entertaining. We've seen plenty of dysfunctional American families before but this one is beautifully engaging. Also it is blessedly short and does not overstay it welcome.
This was a great movie. The story line was funny and it was brilliantly cast.
Great movie. Enjoyed it very much.
Excellent movie! Very, very funny. Highly recommended
Quirky! But very entertainging!
Talk about a dysfunctional family! Good storyline though.
Quite a quirky movie, loved the extremes in the characters and the surprise ending - good on you grandad!
Not as funny as I thought it would be.
Ever looked round at your family and thought "how on Earth did I end up with this mob?" Little Miss Sunshine is a road trip movie that brilliantly casts light and shadow on the love that "outshines" any discomfort our family members may cause us. They are, after all, our family and it is them who know and love us best. An Uncle with major depression, a grandpa with a foul mouth (and twisted yet bizarrely clever politics), a Dad who's a wannabe motivational speaker, a brother who has made a vow of silence until he becomes a fighter pilot, and a mum who just wants the best for her daughter. Poor 12 year old Olive, all she wants is the chance to enter a Beauty Pageant half way across America. Will they all make it in time in the VW combi? Darkly humourous, the film's "style" is at times reminiscent of the work of the Cohen brothers; it's quirkiness at times laugh out loud funny. We may not all be Beauty Queens, but the love we have for family Rises above such shallow notions of beauty. In this regard, Little Miss Sunshine positively radiates. Highly recommended.
Quality actors. Scary glimpses of the little girl beauty pageants. However I loved the film.
A delightful story. Absolute pleasure to watch. The slightly disfunctional family really were endearing and the optimism despite almost insurmountable odds was an inspiration.
Fantastic film. Had heard mixed reviews about it but was pleasantly suprised. I love quirky, indie films. Depicts what a real, normal/dysfunctional family goes about their lives. I love the little girl in it Abigail Breslin? She is the star of the show. The grandpa is really funny too. Steve Carrell is great in it. Really funny film. I was crying the whole time I was laughing so much.
Wonderful storyline with good acting..typical hollywood smaltz but highly recommend..a must see movie for the boys and the girls.
Quite good. definately worth watching. The name had put me off watching this movie but I am glad I did.
I did enjoy this, family did too. Not a movie you remember much of, it sinks in a bit, grows on you.
There is nothing 'wrong' with this movie, however I just didn't find it particularly engaging. It certainly has its moments, but not enough to sustain my interest.
I hadn't seen this before. It is different, don't usually like American movies but as it had an Australian actress in it I thought I would watch it. Enjoyed it but wouldn't watch it again.
I loved this movie, it was great to see that other family's are disfunctional too....
Nice little movie nothing too deep. Particularly funny moving a dead body out of a hospital.
Lived up to the hype. A movie of wonderful, honest characters in a very unusual family. I laughed plenty and smiled even more.
Quirky drama/comedy about a dysfunctional/normal family. Lost me after the body snatching incident . Worth seeing though for the good performances from all the actors especially the children.
Not my type of flik. But worth the watch.
This was a brilliant movie. A warm comedy about getting what you want out of life. The acting was superb and the contest hillarious. A must watch film.
Had some strong points. Ok if you like a feelgood movie. Dysfunctional family is unlikely to be cured by a road trip in reality, so needed to suspend disbelief a bit too much for me.
What a great movie! You will laugh and you will cry.
Funny, but forgettable. It's nice to laugh at Americans, so no complaints here.
Excellent. Great combination of pathos and humour.
Great movie. A total laugh. Each actor played their character to perfection. Somewhat predictable, but still a good laugh. Almost felt sorry for them - they were believable.
I found the moving pretty boring through most of it. It got good towards the end and I would've liked it to have kept going then but it didn't.
Sometimesall the hype about a film ruins it and makes your expectations unrealistic....that's the way it was for me.
I enjoyed it, but I can't see myself watching a second time
Awesome - Wish I would've seen it earlier!
Great, funny and a bit weird.
Excellant family feel good comody.
Great movie my children wont stop talking about it
A dysfunctional family on a road trip - what a great premise for comedy. Terrific ensemble cast including Alan Arkin, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell and Toni Collette. Heart-warming and hilarious, we laughed 'till we cried.
Moments of laughter, BUT the swearing brought the enjoyment factor down for me.
This is not my type of movie but good production.
Thoroughly enjoyable. You never knew what was going to happen next. Great acting in a variety of personalities and characters.
Quirky but heart-warming.
Good fun movie, a little heavy in places.
Gave up watching after about 30 minutes. Seemed pretty disgusting, not funny.
Good movie, which held our interest, light hearted comedy, would receomend it.
I loved this.....Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed it. Worth a watch.
Not really my style. Didn't watch it all.
Outragously funny and unpredictable. One of the best films of last year. You'll be telling your friends about it.
A welcome break from American 'Pop' comedy. This movie uncovers the true fun of most family circumsatnces. Hilirious moments abound. A must see.
Oh, yes! Wonderful - a real-life, beautiful little girl amongst the plastic baby "beauty queens".
lmao!!! Great movie! People who don't like this are missing out on life. Great acting.
Quite funny in parts, but a bit far fetched.
Awful. After about 10 minutes I switched it off.
Entertaining, great build up of characters. "Out of the box" comedy.
One of the funniest movies I have seen in ages - I haven't laughed so much at a movie in a very long time. It's very rare to find a movie as hilariously funny and poignent at the same time...two very enthusiastic thumbs up.
Thoroughly enjoyable and heart warming movie about a dysfunctional family. Believable characters (seems most families are dysfunctional anyway!!) and a great story and ending.
A very quirky family movie that kept me entertained the entire way through
this has to be the funniest movie I've seen
in a long long time, excellentXXXXX
Really enjoyed the comedy in this movie, shame about all the 'F***' words.
Tale of a slightly quirky family of essentially good people out on a road trip. Good characterizations well played especially by Alan Arkin and Toni Collette. A quiet little film that's really about ordinary people doing something only slightly out of the ordinary- yet it manages to be completely entertaining.
I liked this movie, it seemed so real. The dysfunctional family was a definite hoot, with many spins n turns, but definitely a crowd pleaser
Family movie was okay loved the ending found it slow in parts.
Interesting take on suburben life in a dysfunctional family - quite a few comic moments and entertaining once the road trip starts.
OK - had a few laughs with it.
What a movie. Great cast, very funny and a beautiful story.
Think I just don't appreciate American humour much! It was OK, but not sure why my daughter found it so hilarious!!!
Wonderfully different......Toni Collette excells herself
2nd. viewing! What a delicious piece of black humour, and superb acting.
A better collection of hopeless losers could not be imagined, fed by a story line that milked the maximum from a stressful situation. How does one get humour from the death of a father? This movie did! A srong comment on childrens' beauty contests, so popular in the US. Loved that smarmy contest host, and the erratic car horn kept breaking me up! The conclusion is so funny that-------! A thoroughly enoyable movie, which I could happily view time and time again.
A surprisingly entertaining movie celebrating family, being an individual and knowing the right age to start taking hard drugs. It made me laugh, cry and think: all in the space of 90-odd minutes. Loved it.
This was a great movie, apart from some of the language which was a little crude for my liking. It's very funny, the casting is excellent and the ending was fabulous. I thoroughly recommend it. Clive
A cute, quirky, highly entertaining little movie. The casting was outstanding, the performances superb, especially from the kids. No wonder it got Oscar attention.
Enjoyed the vw,opened my eyes about such contests and the suprise performance of the little star.
A good movie for a saturday night viewing.
very enjoyable, great characters, could hardly recognise Alan Alda.
I had high expectations & these were met early with the introduction of each fabulous & quirky character & the hilarious banter between them .. they hit the road & I continued to laugh my head off, then it went kinda off course & I felt let down a bit at the end. But overall it was wonderful & funny & a blast!
The multitude of reviews on this dvd show you the true quality of the film -- I spent most of the movie sobbing as the characters I related to lived through each hysterical situation. Definitely recommended to everyone, makes you think and laugh!
Whacky family story, good writing - lots of fun.
A little piece of magic in your day. (Knowing that something this good, was made on a budget so small - does a jaded heart good.) Loved the characters, adored the ending.
Quirky , funny great ensemble cast Alan Arkin , standout , as usual. Will make you feel good about your dysfunctional family.
Great movie. Fantastic script and unexpected plot twists.
Very quirky, well acted alomost a dark comedy.
this was ok. Loved the Kombi it reminded us of our old beastie. But the story could have been done better. I really wanted to see this movie but was a little disappointed in it in the end. Found it to be a little boring and the only laugh i got was when they stuff the body in the back of the Kombi. Not one i would like to see again.
A real gem. Very funny with a lot of heart. Original with it.
Thoroughly entertaining - the laughs just kept coming.
Very funny! I never thought this movie was going to turn out to be this good!
Bit slow to get going but good ending
What a great movie - all families need to undertake a self discovery tour together - in a combi van. It certainly brought out all kinds of emotions, but most of all smiles. I think the grandfather "went" too soon. He was a real character and was well portrayed by Alan Arkin and put a certain "kick" into the plot. The whole cast worked well together and Toni Collette was outstanding - so natural. Steve Carell was great as the depressed brother and his dry wit and line delivery was superb, as was Paul Dano as the teenage son - those two were definitely connected. Great story line with a dance routine at the end that left me speechless - I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry!!
Not quite as good as I had expected, but I still enjoyed it. Had a few laughs in it and overall nice to see the family bond.
A wonderful story with lots to love and laugh along with. A beuatifully disfunctional family getting on with life.
A little bit too arthouse for me.
Bit of a strange storyline about a disfunctional family, but worth watching.
The family is not dysfunctional, they are one of the most normal families i have ever seen on screen. Much more real than Big Brother, perfect everything -one of those movies that brings you closer to yourself.
was a good little story with a good cast
Very disappointing. Seen Toni Collette promoting this and really have enjoyed a few of her movies. This was just a bit talk talk talk, blah blah boring, too much like a Woody Allan film for me. I prefer to be entertained by movies. May suit you tho.
Hilarious. I was laughing loudly for most of this movie.
Reminded me a little of National Lampoon's Vacation, with the dysfunctional family and deceased family member.... Enjoyable film.
A bit slow to start with but ended really well.
Could watch her dance all night while shedding tears of laughter.
This movie was....kinda bizzare! It is worth watching but dont expect alot.
Acting all good. Liked the intellectual content & clever picture of dysfunctional family.
Great movie.. v enjoyable.
Little Miss Sunshine had belivable characters all with their quirks and problems. I loved the ending as it was unpredictable. The characters all evolved well throughout the movie.
Loved the dance at the end - not what you expect.
Very funny, I thought this movie was great! Was reminded about how shocking some parents can be with their 'little beauty queens'.
stupid movie, have no idea why it was nominated for awards.
It was ok and worth a look. Not as brillant as the media reviews would have you believe. A feel good movie.
truly hilarious, but also clever and touching.
Love it at the movies and loved it again a great laugh.
Heart-warming, well scripted and well acted - an excellent film about the meaning of family.
Was Not as Good as the reviews made it to be.
Funny, uplifting, movie may seem a bit moralistic at the end; but wouldn't it be nice to think change is possible.
quirky yet realistic in a dysfunctional kind of way. The little girl who plays Olive is just gorgeous.
Mostly enjoyable execpt for the F word being used to much for family viewing.
Well worth watching! The most together dysfunction I've seen. Grandad is a hoot!
Well worth watching! The most together dysfunction I've seen. Grandad is a hoot!
My children and I had lots of laughs
really enjoyed it. It was different.
A warm portrayal of a disfuntional family, that has elements most of us could probably identify with. Good performances by most, especially by 'Little Miss Sunshine'.
One of those movies where one minute you are laughing out loud and the next you are crying! A black comedy with some very barbed comments about child beauty pageants. Adorable but entirely kooky characters. The heroin snorting grandad was the most together by a long shot which was refreshing to see in US movie. Great to see Toni Collette show why she is now an internationally acclaimed actress! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I think Toni Collette is overrated and this movie tries too hard. Great cast which lifts what generally only has a few moments that I was drawn to. Maybe I expected too much after the hype.
Even though I enjoyed the movie, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be and not as funny as the trailers.
My daughter thought it great, Takes a while to get going, not really you would rush for has it's moments
little much coarse language
A bit like a Chevy Chase style movie. A few laughs but really not much of a story line.
Lived up to the hype. I shed a few little tears and it made me laugh out loud. Great ending, original plot and superb acting, especially by Toni Collette!
Much better than I expected! slow start but worth watching as they develop their family bonds :)
Love the family :D
Keep your expectations modest and you'll be pleasantly surprised. The plot is simple and the acting is very servicable, with the exception of Alan Arkin (the grandfather) and Abigail Breslin (Olive) who were both superb.
Surprising and delightful - the ending is not to be missed!
A mixture of laughs, tears and family values.
very funny movie, i was still laughing even when the credits were rolling, this could only happen in america, the totally disfunctional family. would rent it again.
Really Funny Lighthearted Movie. Suitable for all the Family My Kids 12.9.7 Loved it Totally A Good Laugh...
Loved it. Haven't heard myself laugh out loud for a long time.
Over rated oh so desperate to be quirky. Has TV movie of the week written all over it. Like a very poor mans episode of SIX FEET UNDER and that is being very generous.....
Cry, laugh, and smile... It is a must-see!
Wonderful roadtrip movie with an eccentric cast of characters.
What a wonderful human story
with lot of humour
An interesting and different movie. a Few unexpected turns, but worth watching
Very enjoyable. Great cast
Excellent viewing Both the kids and I liked this one, funny..
Loved it, very human story about a dysfunctional family we could all relate to!
