‘Line of Beauty’ is a three part series set in Notting Hill, London, amidst the early reign of the Thatcher years. It is the story of a politically conservative family and their lodger, who is gay but it’s not done to mention that in ‘polite’ society. The Line of Beauty is a 2004 Booker Prize-winning novel by Alan Hollinghurst; the book, and the series, explores and exposes the family’s conservative principles as pretensions. It also explores the themes of hypocrisy, indulgence, madness and self-deception. The cast is excellent led by Dan Stevens and well directed by Saul Dibb.

Implausible plot line and rather slow. (over three episodes) but nevertheless interesting and pleasant enough to keep me watching to the end.
