Internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) and his crew - Team Zissou - set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly nonexistent Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou’s partner during the documentary filming of their latest adventure.

They are joined on their voyage by a young airline co-pilot who may or may not be Zissou’s son (Owen Wilson), a beautiful journalist (Cate Blanchett) assigned to write a profile of Zissou, and his estranged wife and co-producer, Eleanor (Anjelica Huston). They face overwhelming complications including pirates, kidnapping and bankruptcy. Oscar-nominated writer-director Wes Anderson (2001, The Royal Tenenbaums, Best Original Screenplay) has assembled an all-star cast that also includes Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon, Noah Taylor and Bud Cort for this wildly original adventure-comedy.

An original and very enjoyable film full of imagination. Bill Murray really makes the movie, but Wes Anderson's excellent direction gave the movie its style. Not recommended for everyone, but I can say that I liked it quite a bit.

Has to be close to the top of the list of the worst movies I have ever seen. Kept falling asleep waiting for something to happen. If anything did happen, I didn't understand it. Pity, cause I usually love Bill Murray.

Despite a good cast, this movie was so bad I didn't watch it all. Save yourself the agony and give it a miss.

My only disappointment in this film is that i watched it alone. Film making that pleases all the required senses.

One of those movies that tries to be different and wacky but ends up being just tedious. What was the director thinking? 2.5 stars

Well thought out, gorgeous soundtrack, and some fantastic acting from all involved. The lo-fi special effects add to the charming nature of the movie, and Bill Murray's performance in the title role is in a similar vein, quality wise, as his outstanding Lost In Translation performance. Highly recommended.

I kept falling asleep, but everyone else had mixed emotions about it; either thought it was funny or was borring.

I really liked this film, Wes Anderson is a very interesting filmaker. A smart, subtle, funny and warm drama with a terrific cast. if you have ever watched a Jacques Costou doco you will get a laugh and if you like warm, quirky drama you will like this. It is lovely to look at, the underwater scenes are beautiful and the relationships between the characters are a little left of centre but very believable. Bill Murray is wonderful as Steve Zissou, the patriarch of a dysfunctional crew, no other actor could pull this part off. The cast is great, special mention to the classy Anjelica Huston. But the strength of the film is Wes Anderson's vision, his great understanding of human nature and what makes a family. It also has an awesome soundtrack of Bowie covers by Seu George

This is a strange and unusual film but worth watching if you want something different. You will go through a variety of emotions when you watch this one, it is not what you would expect from a Bill Murray film.

Bill Murray seemed out of place and unsuited to this type of role. Would not recommend this movie because of that fact plus the story jumped, and wasn't credible.

If there was a category for stoner movies, this one would definitly be up there. Otherwise, this movie was a bit too quirky for its own good . I dont recommend watching it if you have something more important to do at the time.

Very strange. Anyone considering should think Royal Tenenbaums but much odder and with almost no character chemistry. Definitely not Groundhog Day! Owen Wilson acts terribly in this. Very cute but does he have any acting range at all?

Brilliant film. Quirky beautiful and touching, the Life Aquatic is a master piece. If you aren't familiar with Wes Andersons work, or have been put off by some of his other films, this is a great bit of cinema that shows just how brilliant he is as a director.
