This is an uplifting movie because it shows the triumph of the human spirit; the breakdown of superstition and prejudice and the ability of children (especially girls) to affect major changes in peoples' lives because education gives them an understanding. All of the characters give wonderful understated performances and it is good to see a film about a part of the world of which we know little. It shows how much human struggles are common to us all.
