Loved it! Fantastic performances from start to finish, even had me in tears in a couple of parts. Has refuelled my passion for the novel, now must go and read it again. I fully intend to hire this dvd at another time to rewatch it.

I confess I was crying by the end. Nothing can beat seeing the musical in person, but if like me that's yet to happen for you, then this concert version is enough to have you falling in love with the beautifully haunting score and tragic characters. Highly recommended.

I also found myself comparing this to the 10th Anniversary Special and the cast wasn't as strong, particularly Michael Ball as the original Marius and Phillip Quast as the quintessential Javert. This is the cast I saw perform it live, and they still hold the mantle as the best ever. Nick Jonas (who I didn't realise ws one of those Disney Jonas Brothers freaks until half way through!) has more of a pop music voice than a musical theatre voice, but he does improve as the show goes on. I thought Alfie Boe was excellent, and the power in his voice was quite remarkable. The encores are worth watching alone. Spectacular. Running time is close to 3 hours and not the 100 mins listed here.

I have to say I loved this from start to finish especially the encores with cast appearing from the original 1985 set ending up with hundreds on stage and bringing the house down, I saw the show twice in London and enjoyed both times, very powerful music

Camera work is very good and clever. Cast is not as strong compared to the 10th anniversary. Alfie Boe is an operatic tenor, without much experience in musical theatre. Norm Lewis is a decent Javert, but will never match Philip Quast. Nick Jonas (Marius) is disappointing, and is completely out-sung by everybody else on stage. At the end, the original London cast appears, and 4 Valjeans sing "Bring Him Home".
