Jean Reno (Da Vinci Code, Ronin) is Leon, a deadly and elusive killer. He lives a routine life, alone in New York with just his pot-plant for company, until the day his twelve year-old neighbour Mathilde (Nathalie Portman in her screen debut) rings his doorbell in desperation. Mathilde has just narrowly escaped being murdered along with her parents and baby brother by a ruthless and corrupt cop Stansfield (Gary Oldman - The Fifth Element, The Dark Night) and his colleagues. Leon reluctantly takes Mathilde under his wing, and the two go on the run. But Mathilde wants revenge, and as she soon discovers, Leon can teach her how to exact it.

Excellent action movie. Jean Reno plays a New York hitman who rescues an unbelievably young Natalie Portman whose family has just been killed. Jean Reno is as good as he always is but the performance of Portman is brilliant, especially when you consider she must have been around 12 years old when this movie was made (made in 1994 but you would never know it). Luc Besson is the Director so action is full on. Gary Oldman also good. Recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyable relationship between the girl and the hit man. Jean Reno's emotions can be read on his face like a book. Don't let the violence put you off, this is a rewarding film.

Portman 1st movie, what a star she is, together with Jean Reno, Gary Oldfield
I thought was well directed and well worth seeing I loved it from beginning to the end. saw it 3 times

Leon - absolutely got us involved. Brilliant debut by Portman. Super plot and screenplay, visuals etc ... Pure class.

Ruthless-killer-with-heart-of-gold-adopts-11-yr-old-apprentice-blah-blah-blah...I watch this to see Gary Oldman chew his way through the scenery.

Really good movie! Quite different, very entertaining with some black humour and it had some very moving parts as well. A real surprise actually. A rather nasty story but Gary Oldman was fantastic as the insane baddie. Natalie Portman was amazing in her role as well. Highly recommend this, one but warn that there is quite some violence in it as well.
