Tom Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ball player whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943 - while the male pros are at war - Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his "all-girl" team. Geena Davis is Dottie Hanson, the "baseball dolly" with a Babe Ruth swing who, together with teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O'Donnell, are taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail for generations of athletes, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN is a comic story about taking chances, unlikely friendships and having the time of your life.

It it not another baseball movie, but a very good story with some humour, history, compassion & competitive teamwork. A nice touch showing the girls in the 1940's and then at their current day reunion.

I watched this movie for the first time many many years ago and both my young sons and I thought it was a terrific movie and we watched it many times. Now some 10 years on I decided to have another look and it was just as good last night as it was then, it is one of those movies that does not date and could appeal to all ages, I am not a baseball fan so the fact that it is a baseball based storyline should not stop anyone from watching it. Great viewing
