Wes Craven's cult horror classic! First time released in Australia! Previously banned!

Wes Craven's (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream) notorious film debut is a grimly affecting portrait of human evil infiltrating a middle-class household. Adapted from Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring, this no-budget horror shocker sees four escaped cons kidnap, rape, torture and finally brutally murder a pair of teenage girls. The killers take refuge in the girls' own home, but when the parents discover who they are they plot violent retribution.

Dated, not half as shocking as it may have been on release, with a jarring, inconsistent score. Only see for its historical value and influence.

Poor quality film. I watched it due to Wes Craven's reputation. Very disappointing. Poor acting, generally low quality in all respects and nasty.

A must for Wes Craven fans. Not for the squeamish. One of the most disturbing rape scenes I have ever seen in a movie. This is a gripping flick that will leave you holding your breath.

This is probably the worse movie I have ever seen, I had to stop playing it because it was so boring and the acting was so fake it made me feel like I was watching a home made movie made by idiots. this movie should have never been allowed to be published. It is a total waist of time and money. A real bogus flick!

I liked the story plot (claimed to be a true one), very disturbing (which is what made me watch to the end). Don't fancy the background music, though...quite distracting actually. A couple of over-acters, although not too annoying. However, it is still a good story. I would like to see a re-make of this.

although a little dated, you can see why this movie caused such a furore back in 1972. a gritty realistic portrayal of evil as subjected to 2 innocent girls. wes craven has made some highly successful movies in his career but this is by far his most adventurous. not as repulsive to view today, it is however a great step in the development of realism in cinema.

lt's a bit out dated 1972 l think, but when you consider that it's still a classic, in the same line as "l spit on your grave" and "fight for your life", if you liked those you will like this, Wes Craven does a directors version with voice over always great to hear Wes talk.

What a disaster,I could not even give it a rating and I doubt this title would rate a cult following! So glad for the "next" key on the remote to quicken the agony of giving it a chance.

I have heard about this film for years but could not get it due to being banned in Austraila and now finaly thou the magic of DVD I finally can. 2 teenagers go out looking for some grass before they were planning to go to a concert and they trapped by 4 crims who torture, rape and then finally kill them. They end up by chance at the parents house of one of the teenagers and they find out their daughter was killed by them and extract revenge. The acting is top notch esp. by David Hess who went on to play simlar roles in films like this, the direction for Wes Cravens 1st film is amazingly good for his 1st film and the effects thou low budget are convinceing but the film has a couple of small flaws like some of the scenes and music cut out at a vital moment so despite the claim the film is "uncut" it appears to not be so and the scenes with the 2 cops are hard to take seriously as they come across as keystone cops in places. Also nobody really wins out in the end so the ending is up in the air for what happened. But nonetheless its a powerful movie thou not as nasty as some of the other video nasties and def worth a view for horror and Wes Craven fans.
