Lullaby. And good fright! The creator of The Sixth Sense and Signs wants to tell you a bedtime story. A story M. Night Shyamalan told his children is the springboard for this spellbinding plunge into the supernatural. Paul Giamatti plays an apartment manager who finds an otherworld water nymph named Story (Bryce Dallas Howard) in the pool. He then sets out to help her return to her home, The Blue World. “It’s about to get very dangerous” she warns…and very fascinating. Fierce Blue World monsters prowl nearby, determined to destroy Story – and anyone who aids her, including the apartment dwellers who come to realise they are players in her tale. Their lives have undiscovered purposes and how they defy the monsters to fulfill those destinies forms the amazing heart of discovery in Lady in the Water.

M Night Shyamalan had a stroke of genius when he made Sixth Sense but he has made enough lame films since to accept that he is a one-hit wonder. This film is as lame as they come with a childish plot, predictable direction and very bad acting. I wish I had done something better with the 2 hours I wasted watching this film.

Absolutely enjoyable. More of a fantasy/drama, but keeps you watching nonetheless.

Not M. Nights best but still very enjoyable. Not as suspenseful as his others, hence the PG rating, but enough for what the story required. Weird and quirky story line but the plot was easy to follow. Keep in mind that this is a bedtime story and people don't have to act the way we expect them to and you will really enjoy the ride.

I really, really didn't enjoy this film. I love M. Night Shyamalan and I was excited to see this considering it sounded like he really poured his heart and soul into this one. It was a story he told his kids at night time, so it sounded like it was really personal to him, so I expected it to be his best yet. I was wrong. It was awful. Very very low budget (at least it looked that way), dodgy storyline, poor acting, generally an ill-thought out idea in all respects. Sorry M. Night! I loved The Village and The 6th Sense was good too, but what were you thinking with this one?!?! I mean obviously he had difficulty raising capital for this film (it looks like it was financed with shirt buttons), maybe that should've been taken as a hint that it was a poorly conceived idea. Very deceiving cover, makes you pick it up and wanna see it (the cover looks like it cost more than the movie?!?!) Zero stars!

This is a good movie though. The acting and the timing is good and compared to Shyamalan's other movies which I have seen, this would have to be one of his best. There is a suspense for those who want suspense. The special effects is brilliant as it doens't look fake which is also a bonus. And it has a good storyline. Worth watching.

Although I really loved the almost everything about this film, at the end I still felt the director had lost his way. The film tried a bit too hard to be meaningful and didn't quite rise to expectations in the end. Has a great mood to it and excellent cinematography, not certain the story is suited to be set as if it were real.

For a mere mortal like myself, a bit hard to follow but in the end, quite enjoyable as long as you let your imagination go wild. I was expecting a bit more fear factor though.

The "flavour/inspiration" the Director was going for - (in his words, was ET and The Princess Bride.) And apparently, he has written a children's book based on the same tale. The movie didn't work for me in either Fantasy, or Sci fi genre. As a "fairy tale" for adults, I found it just a bit of a bore.
