Absolutely brilliant film. Warm, funny and beautifully performed, even if you know nothing about the history behind it you'll love this movie. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Best movie I've seen in a long time. So much about the King I didn't know and I'm bit of a history buff. The acting was awesome including Helen BC as Queen Mum. Watched it twice :)
I loved this movie. Colin Firth & Geoffry Rush are excellent. I think it was really interesting to see the relationship between an ordinary man and a man who would become King. Public speaking is a tough thing to do even without a stammer and I reckon with Lionel's help Bertie dd a great job. Recommend this movie highly.
One of the best movies I've seen in ages. How wonderfully inspiring and of course brilliant acting by all the cast. Really good story. I really felt for the poor man. Good on him for working so hard to overcome his handicap to what he had to do.
I really did enjoy this movie, mostly because of the charactor portrayal and the very fine acting throughout. Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth were fantastic, but for me Helena Bonham Carter was a class act.
Ooops...previous review given was for "Failure to Launch" Loved this movie - how some genuine people do not get fazed by other people's stature and vice versa...how royalty knows when to "roll with the punches".
Enjoyable movie. Takes liberties with the truth but who cares.
Fantastic film! Loved the acting by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush.
A very good movie telling an interesting slice of history. The input from Mark Logue, Lionel's grandson, was very illuminating and put an extra interest into the story and how well it was, or was not, told. Wonderful characters portrayed by brilliant actors. Not to be missed, this movie.
Absolutely brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Gave an insight into the King that I was not aware of.
Having read the book first and then seeing the movie this came as quite a disappointment. The screen writers or whomever entirely changed the character played by Geoffrey Rush, which would have been alright if the character in question was a minor one, but he wasn't. The tone of the book and that of the movie were different for me. Performances were o.k .but I don't understand why this received all the high-praise it did. O.K. but that's about it.
Geoffrey Rush is excellent in this!
Did ask for this disc. Was not on my list.
What a great true story. How hard would life had been for the king without the speech therapist.
Highly reconmend this movie - The Kings Speech, to everybody on the face of this earth. A real history lesson, for the youngen and being interested and a closest-follower, of the Queen and a selected few of the royals, just made our movie experience, more memoriable and even saw a few places, which family had toured in the mid 1990's.
Lovely scenery, excellent acting and great characters too. Might have to rent this yet again, when family visit us from the United Kingdom.
Thanks Again..
A birds eye view of the royal family showing them as just ordinary people when it came to emotions and problems, magnified by the stress of the position. Geoffrey Rush was exceptional in this.
Very enjayable movie Colin Firth extremely believable
Very well cast and acted, the characters were believable and the movie aptly described a short period of British History.
What a wonderful film. Caracters were built, we were made to feel for them. Colin Firth is amazing. A feel-good movie where one overcomes their problems. Enjoy.
wow it has been syched up too much. its terrible
i thought it was a good film and i would recomend
When I saw this at the cinema a couple of years ago, I remember saying to my companion that I could easily line up for another session and sit through this film again. It was THAT good.
Have now just watched it again - and enjoyed it every bit as much. Incredible performances from Firth, Rush and Bonham Carter. Alternately witty, intelligent and moving dialogue. Didn't know much about the royals of that period, other than the infamous abdication of Edward, so this was a fascinating story.
Absolutely superb.
you'd expect a brilliant movie when you look at the cast & that's exactly what you get!
This movie was awesome. Good performances by all actors. It was a movie I had wanted to see for a while and I was not disappointed with it. Would definately recommend this to anyone.
I got a better understanding of the royal family from this movie, and the protocol etc that goes along with the 'tradition' ...
A really brilliant movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Brilliant acting by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. Would watch it again.
Missed it at the cinema. Every bit as good as reviews and awards.
A very enjoyable movie. Colin acted tremendously well. The setting is beautiful and beautiful.
Great film with fab acting. Highly recommended
Loved it - funny and poignant at the same time. Especially the KIng swearing scene. Superb cast and a lovely tale, extremely well told. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are both at their brialliant best and the support cast including Guy Pearce and Helena Bonham Carter shone also. Also loved the poetry of the scene with 'Mr Darcy' Firth meeting 'Lizzy' Jennifer Ehle. Hilarious.
I thoroughly enjoyed The King's Speech. Although the private life of the King
and Queen was guessed at, I thought it a charming film.
An excellent portrail of an actual event. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were both brilliant.
Thoroughly enjoyed, best movie I have seen for a long time!
For a person who is not interested in royal stories or royal families, this one took me by surprise! Very well acted and great performances all round. A down to earth depiction of the King and Queen during the 1930s-40's it's very relatable and amusing in some parts. Highly recommended.
Brillliant film... captivating! Can highly recommend
Brilliant, just fabulous!
A bit slow-moving, but quite enjoyable.
Very good. I wanted to see more at the end as I found it ended quite suddenly
Good movie, actors well cast.
Really good. Is tinkering on the edge of being boring but it isn't. Took me by suprise as I sort of wrote it off before it started, really well acted - really good movie!
Great viewing Colin did a great job of portraying the future King and I did like the history lesson I had forgotten. He really deserved all the accolades he received
had reservations with this move. Looked at cover whilst in video stores since release. hesitated then added to quickflix list. Well worth the wait, great story told well, excellent acting and holds you to the seat from begining to end. Well worth a watch.
Geoffrey Rush -- need we say more. He's just too good.
We all need a mentor like this in life.
Fantastic movie, great acting
Impeccable contributions from allbar our aussie Guy Pearce who was not at all convincing, but whom at least had a minor part. A supperb and memorable movie with creative genious by Geoffery Rush.
Excellent movie, great characters and a bit of humour.
A fantastic movie all round
Excellent, really enjoyed the story. Well worth watching.
Not as good as I expected
Beautiful and Inspiring. Cinematography is one of the best I've seen.
Geoffrey Rush's another classic act as Lionel Logue. Great !
Awesome, wonderful, moving and real. Geoffrey Rush is perhaps the finest actor of the 21st Century, oh and the rest of the cast aren't bad either.
Loved this movie. Rush and Firth played their parts to perfection. Pearce looked so much like Prince Edward it was creepy. A must see movie.
Brilliant movie, well told story that held me captive the whole way through. Great acting by Colin and Geoffrey.
best film i have seen for quite a while.loved it
too much swearing. Found it a bit boring.
Excellent movie and it's a true story. Highly recommended.
good performances .. thruly enjoyable flick
One of the best movies I have seen. All actors excellent, plot good and background to the story excellent.
Excellent film, a classic.
I loved how Rush and Firth were able to build the growing character relationship - the realities of how each felt in the situation the world has placed them in, the unexpected Kingship in war with his personal struggles and his unlikely support in the unusual (perhaps typically Australian) speech therapist. Carter's performance also realistic in how the Queen mother would have been no doubt in the same circumstances. Overall enthralling perspective of this era in history.
A classic. Have watched it a few times now, and always find something new to appreciate in this gem of a film. Firth and Rush are brilliant in their respective roles. The story itself is interesting, but it's the two actors that make this film what it is.
One of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. Excellent acting and a film I would love to see again. Superb presentation!
A brilliant movie. Moving performances by Firth and Rush, and fabulous supporting actors. Found myself moved to tears several times and then laughing just as much. A must watch in my opinion.
Fabulous movie. So interesting and moving. Very well acted. Our copy played up quite a bit so our viewing was disjointed but the storyline, photography and original footage was wonderful.
thoroughly enjoyed it, Rush and Firth are brilliant together!
One of the best movies I have ever seen
I loved it. I could have watched it a couple of more times.
We loved it. There is a bit of swearing at one point, but it was really funny and in context. In no way was it vulgar in its swearing. Really a movie for adults to enjoy...many youngsters would not get this movie.
Excellent a most enjoyable watch
What a lovely surprise! I got this because of the awards & such, but really wasn't expecting such a fabulous movie. I went out & bought it straight away.
great movie with well suited actors/acting and flowing story line. good integration of actual footage and filming. love the setting and costumes as well.
A must see movie worthy of Academy award
Good movie. Great story and extremely well acted. The direction of the movie and the production was first class. If the viewer had no idea of the facts behind the story,
then it was like being taken back in time for a history lesson.
Excellent movie - well acted. recommended viewing
No subplots meant the story felt a bit one-dimensional to me. I can appreciate it's a good film, but would recommend to history/royalty fans or one to watch with your mum. Good acting etc. but not very memorable.
A well written story about George VI. After watching the film I saw a documentary about the subject and the film did not seem to have played around with the subject.
Heart felt, Emotional and Hilarious. A must see of 2011!
Intelligent ..absorbing, well acted and enjoyable all the way
Great movie!!
great way to learn about history
Colin Firth is a great actor and Geoffrey Rush!
jeffery rush what can i say fantastic
Brilliant. Eveyone involved deserved all the accolades they received.
This was better than I expected - very enjoyable and interestiing
Great movie! Love the dialogue!! You don't hear such good English anymore. The 3 main characters played their role so perfectly!!
Awesome movie, so inspiring and an interesting glimpse into the history of Queen Elizabeths family. Loved it!
A fantastic and moving film that deserved every Oscar it won
Excellent movie great acting for it's time Geofrey Rush plays an excellent character
I like a true story that is inspirational and part of history. However I must admit getting up & occupying myself with other things around the house. Great acting. Not a movie that I would feel the need to watch again though.
Excellent film. Showed the struggles that King George had when he had to speak in public and also so showed a much more loving wife in Elizabeth. Also that they played with the children somewhat not just said hello to them and sent them with the nanny.
thoroughly enjoyed this clever and quality film. cinematography was gorgeous, acting excellent, and set design beautiful. impressive how quickly we developed empathy for the main character despite all his privilege, power and money. not an easy task.
Slow to start and too long.
What can I say, just riveting from the beginning until the end. I don't want to be a Movie Critic, I just want to enjoy a GOOD Movie. I could go and be picky about things, but no that is not my intention. Great Flick. Well deserved Best Actor to Colin Firth, ripped off Geoffrey Rush & Helen Bonham Carter!!
5 stars from me and one of the best movie I have seen in a long time!
Excellent film, very rewarding to watch!
A great film, completely suprise as to where this came from and went to. Recommend it to any one.
Brilliant movie . excellent performances giving an insight into the "Firm", English history, class struggle etc.
Excellent movie. I highly recommend it. The acting is pure genius. Well worthy of the oscar in 2011.
Such a GREAT movie, didn't think I would like it but was totally wrong. Colin Firth played the character so well...I believed every word. Seriously watch this movie. You won't be disappointed.
I was impressed that Colin managed not to play himself, as in every other film he's in. It is really just a story about a man dealing with a stutter but somehow rises higher.
What a delightful movie. Great cast, Geoffrey rush is brilliant, Colin firth marvelous!! A must watch for everyone!!
One of the most brilliant movies ever Made!!
One of the best films ever - have viewed it twice. Deserved every Oscar it got.
Excellent film. Great acting, informative and very well done. Best movie I've seen in ages. Inspirational.
An excellent film. Pity the discs are not being cleaned
Slow but good which is typical of this genre. Geoffrey Rush portrayed the speech therapist very well as did Colin as the stuttering accidental king. Would recommend for the mature audience on a lazy Sunday afternoon at home but not really good if you want some thrills and spills with the guys/girls on a Fri/Sat night.
watched this beacuse of all the hype, ok movie nothing to rant about, was very long. good actors which is what held it ,together wouldnt watch again
Absolutely excellant movie, worth seeing by everyone
very informative. brilliant acting
Best movie I've seen in a very long time
Loved this Movie. So well done.
An obvious award winner, I enjoyed the warm fuzzy feeling from this movie and also the educational history aspect.
Brilliant! Seen it three times. Wonderful acting. Thoroughly deserved all the awards it won. Wish we could have more movies of this calibre.
The premise for the film sounded quite boring, but while watching the film, I found the character study to be very good and felt very involved with both of the main characters because of it. I felt very nervous for both the new king and his speech therapist, and enjoyed the journey of their friendship.
Kings speech ----you cancertainly see why Colin and Jeffry won the awards, It was an amazing film, I really enjoyed it!
Geoffrey Rush, Colin Friels, what else would you expect. Superb acting with a historic storyline, really worth a look if you like these guys as they really live the personality of the 'life', of who they portray, they are the epitome of real Australian professional dramatic artists.
Firth and Rush brilliant. Bit slow in parts but powerful and well done.
This DVD was very outstanding for acting and script,we enjoyed it so much we screened it twiced I give it 10 out of 10
Fantastic Movie, if only we all found friendships like this one.
Didn't know much about the Queens father, interesting story. Love Colin Firth and was great in this role. Didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, funny in parts which was good
I was scared that I might doze off with this one BUT Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush mad sure that I would remain wide awake right through. The story is true and it's amazing to see how an Australian was able to get an Englishman to communicate with such ease. Great viewing.
Fantastic performance by Colin Firth & Geoff Rush, really enjoyed it, highly recomended
Great movie - really enjoyed it and thought Colin Firth was brilliant.
Excellent movie, well written and acted. Enjoyable to watch. Recommended.
Not my kind of movie. In saying that, it kept me interested the whole time with brilliant acting and great cinematography.
Although the acting performances were solid and the movie based on a true story, I do not believe the story is strong enough to bring myself to want a voluntary second viewing.. at least for quite a while..
Excellent movie! Great actors.
This is film perfection! The script, acting, direction, costumes, cast, music and design. Seriously one of the best films I have ever seen. Bonham-Carter was the Queen Mother - it was like she was possessed!
Excellent film every one should see it.
Greatly enjoyable movie. Wonderful acting. The knowledge that it is a true story gave me more empathy with the people who are born into the public limelight. Will revisit and enjoy this movie again down the track.
Exellent acting. A look into the past.
An excellent production. Hats-off to Geoffrey Rush; he is just so adaptable and committed to his role; praise too to Colin Firth, the best film I've seen him in. A film everyone should see chronicling one of the many roles which Australia played in the British Empire.
Always a good series to watch time and again
I loved this movie, it was so full of fantastic performances I cannot choose a favourite, very believable and well portrayed. Even though the story was basically sad, it was enjoyable from start to end because of all the funny situations and clever dialogue throughout, you really felt for the poor king.
such a wonderful film had a laugh and a bit sad but watched it twice
A must watch movie. Should be rated PG. Suitable for children in upper primary. Great for family viewing.
Lives up to the hype. It mixes reality with possibility. As a movie about friendship it ticks all the boxes (partners and strangers alike). As an insight into the pressures and responsibilites of being royal it gives an interesting perspective. Thecostuming and set detail adds extra depth to the credibility.
Firth and Rush were brilliant and natural for this film. The hype in this case was well deserved. Don't expect a fast paced film, expect a film where nothing happens but holds your interest regardless.
A marvellous movie - worthy of the awards! A great insight into the friendship and mutual respect of the two lead characters. Great to see some Aussies in there. An enjoyable movie of struggles overcome by a lasting friendship.
This is one of those movies that even with viewers recimmendations, I had pre-conceived ideas that it would be high brow and stodgy. How wrong could I have been!
I watched it twice in the same day. I couldn't get over the brilliant acting, the love and support between the King and his wife.
I will definitely add this to my collection once the prices drop a bit. Cann't wait to see it again.
I was dubious about all the hype relating to the release of this film, hence why I didn't go to the cinema. But how brilliant are the performances of Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth. There are always such wonderful stories in history that translate to screen so beautifully. I am sure the actors were equally inspired when they read the script. I was totally absorbed from start to finish.
A great movie bravo to the actors for a fine performance
Brilliant, brilliant, funny, very good feel good film. Colin Firth was magnificent!!!
Great movie, highly recommend. Rush is such a great actor.
Great acting...but a slow moving movie...a little like a 'stage play'.
I could watch this one again and again. Loved it.
Great acting and interesting subject
What can I say that others have said better? This is a must see movie!
Great movie, wonderful cast. Colin Firth's performance is unbelievable, and Geoffrey Rush is brilliant. Helena Bonham Carter plays an uncanny Queen Mum. One of the best movies we've seen this year.
Fantastic! It is well worth taking the time to watch this great film.
thumbs up for this one. Colin Firth has put in another solid performance as well as Helen Bohem- Carter, a unusually subdued role for her. It wasn't Geoff Rushs best performance but still close to the top. The story line was light and didn't get to involved in any cloke and daggar theatrics. A professional relationship between to men from different walks of life.
Wonderful casting for the main roles, fantastic movie, would watch it again
Brillant movie, great history
EXCELLENT FILM SUBJECT INTERESTING AND REFRESHINGLY ORIGINAL
Excellent. History was also interesting
Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant... one of the most moving and magical yet hilarious movies I have seen in ages... definitley one to add to the personal home collection.
Character acting played to perfection!
Genius. A history lesson and great entertainment. Real feeling. What a story.
brilliant Cast, great acting, had no idea of this history and fantastic how King overcame his Stutter with the help of someone who is just the best in his field because he is so mindfull of others emotional state and capable of helping,
shows Geoffery Rush`s versatility and his appreciation for Australians in History
loved it
A fantastic film in every manner possible. Colin Firth is excellant as a weary King who is willing to step into the role of a leader with ease.
great movie, a true story that does not drag you through the mud, funny and historical. the acting was good.
Even better with a second viewing.
Absolutely excellent - thoroughly enjoyed this dvd
my many thanks
excellent actors, great story.
Wonderful movie - particularly as I was able to relate to events in my own lifetime.
My husband who is hard to pleased loved it
Great story and roles. Nothing else needed to say.
Incredible movie. Beautiful (and true!) story. Well acted by all and also a very interesting insight into the Royal family in the days of King George V, King Edward VII and King George VI. Be sure to get this one!
Fantastic!!!! Loved it and loved the humour too, everyone should see this! ********
Glad I watched it once, but wouldn't pay to see it again.
Great movie, great acting, watch it!
Pleasantly surprised, funny, acting was excellent
A truly beautiful story. I love the cast and I would watch it all over again any time.
A beautiful, moving film. Both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are well cast and brilliant in their roles. Highly recommended.
At last, a good movie, great story, good acting, would watch it again.
Great insight into the Royal Family. Firth and Bonham Carter excellent, bit slow first half.
I love English history. I was wrapped in this one, so much so I watched it more than once. Well acted. Held my interest. Shared it with my family.
Very entertaining and enjoyable, a great drama.
Excellent movie it was different but the story was great and kept me interested throughout the movie
This was an interesting story. We saw a side of royalty we have never seen. The acting was phenomenal!
Thought this was brillant
Brilliant movie! Even more interesting that it was based on actual events, it's also hard to go wrong with a cast of actors like that.
4/10 .... Brilliant acting, but was expecting more
Fairly boring movie
Good movie to watch when you aren't in the mood to think
Fantastic movie. Tremendous cast, brilliant acting by all. Really a fantastic watch.
well acted and interesting. could have been a 5 star except I do not believe that the scene of angry swearing of the then prince was in popular use in early 1940's. To me this is out of context and spoils an otherwise authentic reproduction of the era.
WOW. Geoffrey Rush, you can hold that screen, and can stay in the moment, for as long as you like. A quiet hero!.
Just an absolute delight and a 'must see', will be a classic - order it now particularly if you like history and period pieces focussing on people
Excellent movie. Captivated from the start.
Really enjoyed this movie. Could relate to it as my son has a stutter
Fantastic movie. Highly recommended.
I didn't think I would enjoy this movie as much as I did and my wife (whose pick it was) loved it. Highly recommended to anyone interested in British history, speech impediments or the Royal family.
I know this movie won many awards but I found it a little boring. Nothing really exciting happens. Maybe it was boring because I didn't know much about the history of the royal family? I eventually worked out how the characters are related to the current day royal family. I've never seen Helena Bonham Carter in such a serious role, I've always seen her portray weird, wacky characters. Hard to imagine her as the Queen. Maybe I need to watch it a second or third time to appreciate the movie more?
well done to a story line which basically focuses on treating someones speech impediment
Excellent movie. Great acting with a believable portrayal of the real life people. Great watching.
Acting good. Story line fairly predictable. No 'wow' moments. Aussie terminology embarrassing.
Excellent! Definitely a must see.
fantastic movie. the actors are captivating, and the storyline interesting. highly recommend
I really enjoyed this movie I didnt think I wouldl It was a drama with a funny delivery. Geofery Rush was excellent in this. I would recomend it to everyone.
Fabulous movie! So well made and a great performance. You will want to watch it again!
Wonderful film recommend to all. Fine portral by top actors.
I found this movie interesting; in so far as to take a glimpse back in time to see what was unfolding in that time period. It was a movie that I'm glad I didn't pay big bucks to see in the cinemas, although the acting was brilliant. The thing that I found amusing, as a massive Pride and Prejudice fan, was seeing Darcy and Elizabeth (Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle) reunited in this movie, for a fleeting minute, as the King and Myrtle Logue. Jennifer did a great Aussie accent!!
Once again, an outstanding performance by Geoffrey Rush. Loved the movie.
Fantastic movie. Perhaps a bit slow for the younger age group but I really enjoyed the story
Brilliant - acting superb - one of the best films I've seen in a long time
Good movie. A little slow to begin but grew on me as it went on.
Absolutely brilliant. I can see why it got so many awards. Do yourself a favour and see it.
Better than I expected. I thought it would be somewhat turgid, but the historical storyline around Edward's abdication in the uncertain pre-WWII period and fine acting by the leads kept me entralled. Rush is brilliant as usual. Some of the acsents are a bit sus for the period though, even Rush's does not really reflect the true 1930's Australian and as for the Royal's, well ..... Head's up voice coaches!
excellent film. well done to all who acted. loved it.
We enjoyed this film very much, especially Geoffrey Rush's performance. The sound track was very jumpy during the film but not when we watched the commentary.
Entertaining and well acted
I have a son with a stutter, so this movie was great for us! It was a wonderful story.
One of the best films to have come out in the last 10 years.Amazing cast,Cinematography and Story. A Must Watch.
Even though this film received so many awards I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it. Hence waiting so long to see it and being the only person I knew not to have seen it. Well I was so very wrong. I absolutely adored it.! Exceptional script and sensational delivery by the cast. It was an absolute pleasure to watch and I could not recommend it more highly.
At the end of the movie watch the extra selection, the interview with the nephew, very interesting.
amazing movie!!!forced myself to watch this due to the reviews of critics and family, didnt think it would be my cup of tea, however was pleasantly surprised!!an amazing movie that draws you in with an array of amazing actors, definitely a must watch movie!!
Brilliant movie, brilliant story, brilliant actors.
Well presented view of the private side and issues of the firms family of the Commonwealth. Well done to the Aussie "doctor" who did what the home country's best minds could not: and well acted Colin, Geoff and Hels.
easy to watch and brilliant
Pleasantly surprised. I usually don't enjoy long-winded drama style movies, which this appeared to be at a glance - but this had some genuinely funny moments and a gentle momentum to the story. Geoffrey Rush's character is adorable, even though his wife seems a nutter (unless Jennifer Ehle is on drugs or something). His character really makes the film. "Bertie" is not particularly likable and yet inspires sympathy, which is probably exactly true to life - best acting to date from Colin Firth, brilliantly done. His wife is not likable at all, which may also be true to life!! Apart from the poor representation of "David" (doesn't address any of the real issues for his abdication, only illogically tries to makes him out as some stupid sap who can't get over his latest squeeze), this was a great story and very enjoyable. Definitely worth the watch!!
What a brilliant movie about such a sensitive subject. Actors were excellent.
This story was keep untill the Queen mother had died. So as not to upset her. An interesting account of a friendship that developed between two un-equals. At the time HRH GR6's waywood brother Edward abdicates in his throne. A good interesting film.
I really enjoyed the movie and it was wonderful to see the Aussies...Was surprised to see Guy Pearce as Edward [David]...it looked like him ,....the mouth..but I but I had to check the cast list at end to make sure! AND to see Jennifer Ehrle [spelling] as Myrtle?...I loved her and Firth [Darcy] in Pride and Prejudice!
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
Clever, funny, poignant.
1st class acting, but the movie absolutely BORED me to sleep. Yes, it's based on history and yes, there are some good actors, but this doesn't change the fact that the screenplay was dull, unengaging and predictable. Seriously don't know what the whole fuss is about!
If you suffer from insomnia, then this movie is definitely the remedy.
WAKE UP people, do you seriously think this is the epitome of a brilliant historic film?? And yes, ironically I will probably be the one labelled as "ignorant"
terrific movie, exceptional acting, very enjoyable
I am vertually the last person in Australia to watch this and now I finally get what all the hoopla was about. B-b-b-b-rilliant!
Deserves all the accolades it received. Saw at the cinema but had to watch again on DVD. Fine acting to portray a man that not only stammered but also had another slight speech impediment too. Geoffrey Rush, as always, did justice to the character he was portraying.
As painful to watch as it must've been excruciating for "Bertie": stammering and freezing mid-speech as so well portrayed by Colin Firth. While the background is well-known to anyone with at least a passing interest in history - the abdication and the coming of war - the central story of the movie is a revelation for those of us born after the king's passing. Even if one doesn't care in the least about the Royal Family, at a human level the story is still fascinating and engrossing.
brilliant movie,brilliant actors
enjoyed this movie immensely
A brilliant film deserving of recent awards. Grabs your interest from start to finish even though the storyline is so simple.
An uptight reluctant King with a stutter is helped by a down to earth Aussie speech therapist. Performance driven piece that hits all the right buttons in that British upstairs downstairs sort of way. 3.5 stars
Excellent. A movie that lives up to the accolades.
This is a fantastic movie.
Brilliant! Brilliant production with brilliant acting based on an inspirational story and one I could view over and over
Definitely one of the best movie I've seen. Brilliant performance by the actors, amidst the warm and rich layers of colour, emotion, tone and friendship.
even better than expected, will be buying it soon :)
One of the best movies I've ever seen. Collin Firth and Geoffrey Rush delivers PITCH-PERFECT performances that stay with you long after the film ends. Brilliant, brilliant, film!
fantastic movie,great cast.
Intelligently and sensitively made movie. AS a history buff I loved it even if it didn't show Bertie with warts and all. Maybe a documentary would be the place for that.
Geoffrey Rush was perfect.
However, I am often slightly disappointed with historical films when the characters barely resemble the characters they portray....not even a little. Colin firth is a good actor and played the part brilliantly but he does not look anything like the very gently, slightly built Bertie and this spoils it for me. And please, please, please would someone teach modern actors to speak like the aristocracy when they are playing aristocrats. Angelina Jolie sounds like a middle-class house- wife rather than the Queen mum....and as for Guy Pearce's accent......!!!!
good film.. interesting bit of history
Brilliantly understated. What movies are all about - storyline, character development and cinematography. Don't miss it.
Interesting and entertaining.
Beautifully filmed, extremely well cast, with a few laughs and quite a moving story about the man who never wanted to be King but got thrust into it when his older brother abdicated. Firth deserved his Oscar!
Great movie subtle , moving, great acting the best of British and Geoffrey Rush was fantastic, only he could have played the part of Logue!! Colin Firth was also Fantastic , as indeed was the whole cast A great fim which actually exceeded the hype
an absolutely superb movie, about a man acted by Geofery Rush who helps Prince Bertie , Colin Firth overcom e the problem of stuttering, when his brother decides not to be king of England due to bieng in love with a divorcee, Bertie then becomes King
Brilliant performances by both main actors.
Very enjoyable, a decent storyline
Brilliant! Colin Firth was amazing and so was Geoffrey Rush. I enjoyed it very much.
Wonderful film. Flows well and Colin Firth really makes you care about his character.
Brilliant movie both main actors portray their characters to perfection, this movie deserves all the awards it has won and more. I fully intend to purchase a copy for my home DVD collection and would recommend it highly, also believe it to be historically correct. It was lovely to have watched this movie over the weekend of the Royal Wedding of Kate
I thought this was brilliant and very well deserving of all it's accolades. Definitely one for the dvd collection!
Truly lives up to the hype. This intelligent film combines perfect blend of humor, inspiration and severity of the struggles in one mans life. Rush and Firth are at their finest. A must watch for all.
This is definitely a family movie [apart from mild coarse language] Watch Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth cast a magical on screen spell over the audience as you watch with the drama of a murder mystery mixed with the emotion of real life and spirit. An experience above all else. You gotta see this movie! My rating is 6 out of five!
Amazing make you feel good movie! Ive never been a fan of period pieces but this one on the early royals is a must see.10/10
The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu ascension to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it. Colin Firth is magnificent. If anyone was born to play this role then Firth is the man. The best movie of 2011
May not win the oscar but if my vote counted it would..Colin Firth makes a Perfect Bertie, Rush is fabulous as the vocal coach the two have a bond on screen that shines through and I think Helena gives her best performance as Liz!...Love it on the big screen bring on the BLUE RAY...and the oscar goes to :The Kings Speach....also loved the Kids are alright so what does it matter what the academy vote
At last! An intelligent and uplifting movie with inspired acting. Colin Firth deserves all the awards - his King George is a sensitive, tortured soul who has a powerful dedication to duty and a warm love for his wife and daughters. Geoffrey Rush is the astute, caring and determined therapist who wins the King's trust and friendship. Helena Bonham Carter is also excellent as the charming, confident but concerned and loving Queen. I shed a tear when George realised that he had found his first true friend in Lionel.
Awesome! Everything it seems in the shorts. Funny, touching, inspiring. Can't wait to own it.
