What a fascinating and absorbing film, well acted and kept my interest throughout.
This powerful, yet sombre movie had me engrossed, and the tragic ending moved me to tears. It is Norwegian with English sub-titles, the story is set in the early 1900's at a remand school for wayward teenage boys, located on an isolated Norwegian island - the boys are prey to the mercy of the school staff. The violence is not overly graphic, but it is certainly implied and that is disturbing enough. The acting is very good, I really felt for the boys who were so vulnerable and trying to stand up to the staff who were abusing them (or ignoring the abuse). A sad tale that builds in suspense and one certainly well worth watching if you enjoy a deep & meaningful movie with excellent acting. The winter scenery is beautiful but also very stark and at times bleak.
Bad Disc - freezes at 01:04:56.
Replacement Disc also freezes at 01:04:56.
The second replacement Disc did exactly the same.
In total, three Discs of the same title were sent to me and they all freezes at 01:04:56.
if had been in English would of been a great movie
Beautifully filmed but bleak from beginning to end.
Very slow to get going, but stick with it. The storyline eventually proves to be very engrossing and the acting is superb throughout.
