Weird mix of a cast with some international superstars (De Niro, Statham and Owen) mixed with some local lads (Matt Nable, Firass Dirani, Ben Mendelsohn and Grant Bowler) to deliver a pretty bland action thriller. Some may enjoy but I found kind of clunky and boring.
I thought this movie was a bit too yankified. It was very predictable and at times I thought I was watching a B grade movie, if u know what I mean. It has plenty of action, which I like, but for me the main character wasn't engaging and I didn't care whether he won or lost against the bad guys.
I love Jason Statham but I did not like this movie. Lots of Aussie in the cast and some good fight scenes but not my kind of movie
We enjoyed this movie, full of action and a good (true) storyline
An embarrassing embarrassment of a movie. What on earth has happened to DeNiro's career??? I cannot believe people have rated this 3-4 and even 5 stars - am I on Candid Camera or something!!???
Dreadful.
great cast and good action movie
Ok, but very loosely based on a True Story.
It just shows that politics are all around us great film with superb actors
Based on Ranulph Fiennes' 1991 book, The Feather Men, which was touted as a true story and used the name of a real SAS man (27 year old Mike Kealey - look him up.) who died allegedly at the hands of the Clinic, the bad guys in this movie. The book developed the Feathermen side of things a lot better than this film, which concentrates on the biffo.
Apart from the major fight between Statham and Owens (which went on too long and became unrealistic) and the mandatory car chase and crashes, there are some good action sequences, but overall, the film squanders the opportunities that were in the original story.
And it IS just a story, Fiennes has admitted as much in interviews, but only recently. It doesn't deserve extra stars because it's supposedly based on a true story. It isn't.
You come to expect excellence from Jason Statham ... And you get that in this excellent movie with Robert De Niro to boot!
You get exactly what you'd expect in this 'action packed, fast moving' flick. Guys enjoyed it. I felt it pushed belief in more than a few spots - really, how lucky can you be in these dangerous situations? - and do the writers really think we'd accept this as a true story? But, interesting that so much was shot in Australia. Strangely the Australian outdoor scenes looked like they'd been shot in the studio, while scenes supposed to be London, Paris and other places were shot here and looked very good.
Of course any critical comments are forgotten when Jason is on screen - he is very cool and sooo cute.
Loved it - and it has a strong Aussie content. Based on a true story, apparently. Jason Statham and Robert De Niro are perfectly cast. The supporting cast is almost as good.
Action all the way, with Statham and De Niro playing elite contract killers who are hired by an Oman oil Sheikh to take out some retired SAS officers, who have killed 3 of the Sheikh's sons in an secret SAS operation. Taking on the SAS is not generally a good idea but as it says, it is based on a true story and as it is based on a book by Ranaulph Fiennes, it has a feeling of real life about it. Real life being stranger than fiction. 007 could not match this.
Clive Owen plays the role of the ex: SAS officer who wakes up to the contract killers, as his SAS friends begin to die in suspicious circumstances. From there on, the hunters become the hunted. The action is non stop, with an ending that is believable. Plenty of Aussie actors whose faces you will recognise, if not the names. Highly recommended for lovers of action movies.
Jason Statham.. :)
Action.. true story... Mercenaries set up against SAS.... War is dirty... cleaning up the mess is dirtier :)
Action very good, Acting excellent, very good story line. . . . knowing it is true, makes it even more chilling.
Great movie.Excellent acting.
Jason, just keep them coming, can't wait to see "Safe" which is now at the top of my list, so if not sent by here shall hire out, just loved the action and really the plot is pretty good so all in all a great movie for us action lovers.
This was a good action movie and because it is based on a true story a lot better than some other action movies which are so far fetched. We enjoyed this one and Jason Statham has some really poor acting performances lately but not in this one. Worth watching
husbands review - very mediocre, get that it is based on a true story but thought it might have been better based on true story but not stuck in the 80's
This is coming from a person who is usually not interested in action movies. I liked the story line in this, reminded me of the "Bourne" series a bit, in that it kept me interested nearly all the way through. A bit corny in parts but thats to be expected and then there were parts that surprised me by taking a different twist. Worth watching for sure. Three and a half stars, almost four
Not bad but I didn't believe Clive Owen as a SAS at all. Deniro and Statham were alright as a pair. Nice 80 feel too.
Good, interesting plot - largely because it was based on a true story - but it never really reached the climax that a good action movie usually possess.
I'm a fan of Jason Statham and he doesn't disappoint. The acting was pretty decent and I enjoyed it overall but it really wasn't any different than a lot of other movies.
Good movie paid killers against secret SAS group. Nice Aussie connection.
I will be honest and say that I only got this for Clive Owen. I did not know what to expect as I have not seen any other Jason Stratham movvies but I really enjoyed it. And with the added bonus of having so many wonderful Aussie actors.
Pretty average considering the talent involved.
Made in and around Melbourne (and in Jordan) with a lot of Aussie talent. My brother and I thought it was pretty good with good action sequences well acted and a reasonably good plot. But, we couldn't decide who the hero was, everyone is basically a trained killer. I suppose it depends on who you're the bigger fan of Jason or Clive.
Great cast & it does not disappoint!
