A hurricane swells outside, but it's nothing compared to the storm within the hotel at Key Largo. There, sadistic mobster Johnny Rocco (Edward G. Robinson) holes up - and holds at gunpoint hotel owner Nora Temple (Lauren Bacall), her invalid father-in-law (Lionel Barrymore) and ex-GI Frank McCloud (Humphrey Bogart). McCloud's the one man capable of standing up against the belligerent Rocco. But the postwar world's realities may have taken all the fight out of him. John Huston co-wrote and compellingly directs this film of Maxwell Anderson's 1939 play with a searing Academy Award-winning performance by Claire Trevor as Rocco's gold-hearted, bozzy moll. In Huston's hands, it becomes a powerful, sweltering classic.

A group of people, including gangsters, are holed up in a hotel during a hurricane. Superior drama with excellent performances from the whole cast. Though based on a play it manages to translate well to the screen.

Lightweight story - more a stage play than a screen play - but what a cast. Humphrey and Lauren and Edward G were brilliant as were the other cast members. Worth seeing to see these great stars.

Anything with Humphrey and Lauren has to be worth watching. This was one of their early films together and the relationship is plain to see. The film is an oldie, b&w, the story is thin, the fearsome EG Robinson is not feasrsome any more, but it's worth a look. Still a good way to pass a free afternoon.

Hight class movie in classic forties style. The cars and clothes are dated but human nature is always the same. Bogie I thought has noticeable aged in this movie. He died early, in his mid fifties, from all that smoking. At the end of the day, the smoking was not at all cool.

The interesting aspect of this movie was, because of its age it featured some well known actors from years ago. It was also great to see it filmed in monochrome.

CLASSIC STUFF - great combination of Bogart, Robinson and Bacall with Huston directing - supporting cast are all excellent albeit Claire Trevor got an Oscar for playing the kind hearted ditzy moll - they all deserved an Award: only disappointment is it should be remastered to bring back that classic b&w quality with no scratches - that's what a photograpgic training does to one.....

What an amazing movie! It is such a pleasure to watch such legendary actors as Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore and Edward G Robinson in action. I was too young to see films like this when they came out, and to my surprise I am absolutely loving them. The stories are simple and the presentation without the noise and action of our days, but the acting is superb and the whole thing very entertaining.

An inkling of the chemistry between Bogart & Bacall, but rather dated and predictable story line.
