A great comedy with real heartfelt drama. You either buy into it and love Kenny or you don't. I feel sorry for anyone coldhearted enough not to appreciate this Aussie classic.
A totally quirky and original mockumentary with gentle humour. However, whilst the central character is a unique characterisation I couldn't warm to him as he came across as a bit of a dill.
What an unintelligent , poor attempt at aussie comedy. Only watched 20 minutes and that was 15 minutes too many !
What a rediculous, pathetic film that was!!!
Fabulous little character piece. And a surprisingly gentle comedy, despite the scatological nature of some of the material. Well written and well thought out, it's definitely worth a look.
Wonderful movie! Great Australian humour, and very believable!
I have been o big hore racing events and rock concerts, and this is how the people behave...
Very very well done!
What a great Australian movie! I wasn't expecting it to be in documentary format but it still exceeded my expectations!
I actually went into this thinking it was a real life documentary.
The writing is brilliant. Witty, funny and down to earth. Some of Kenny's one liners are priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I laughed out loud and even cried a little.
Watched this on recommendation from a friend but could not see what was good about it. Turned it off half way through, couln't get the humour. It does not hold a candle to the Castle as far as character studies.
I would recommend not to waste your time....
Very subtle in parts...and you gave to 'get' Aussie humour. Truly a classic in teh mockumentary genre. Watch it for laughs for the whole family (bar the littlies).
It's a classic. Don't miss it!!
This is a fantastic Aussie film, full of typical Aussie humour. Fantastic acting, Shane Jacobsen is wonderful as the down-to-earth Kenny. Who would think a movie which is basically about s**t could be so funny. Definitely worth watching.
A few laughs to begin with, then it becomes very repetitive and quite boring.
First movie I've felt compelled to write a review for. Loved it loved it loved it! I was laughing from the first minute. Kenny is such a lovable character. I will definitely buy this DVD after renting it
A brilliant Aussie film with no shortage of laughs!
I was not too sure of this movie at first but as the movie moved along, it went from 2 stars, to 3 stars only to finish off with 4 stars. It is a funny movie with a lot of old Australian slang you rarely hear any more. Certainly some good laughs to have in the form of a docu-drama.
Fell asleep around the middle of the movie and don't have the courage (or patience) to watch the rest of it.
Very redneck and ignorant aussie movie.
interesting doco but not entertaining
fun, not hilarious but still a good watch
Fantastic Australian movie. If you haven't seen it yet you don't know what you're missing out on.
It wasn't until I saw Shayne highlighted as a comedian after Kenny aired that I realised he was an acor, and Kenny was a comedy film, not a documentary. Ftrankly, it weill long be considered as a classic mfilm, aired for decades to come.
If yoiu have not seen it, do so now. I am very selective in what I see, and when I say that I have no hesitatioin in giving this film 5 stars, you know I am serious.
An interesting look at what happens 'behind' the scenes. Great to see so much of our fair city in the film as well. Good for a few laughs. Family pleaser.
I enjoyed it, some great relationship issues in it.
A funny, sensitive and very Australian film.
A "bog-umentary" about Kenny Smyth porta loo provider and plumber made in a way that could only be done somewhere like Australia, whereby Kenny, who plies his trade at local festivals, stock car races and of all places the Melbourne Cup, is somehow made endearing and someone whom we care about. The film wouldn't work otherwise. The fact that he takes pride in his work and is a genuinely nice guy are two key factors in the success of this film. The language is crude but real, the situations are ridiculously funny but believable and the relationships troubled but hopeful, well, except maybe between Kenny and his ex wife. I haven't laughed so hard since I can remember. A film that hits all its targets, so to speak. Great name for a company too, "Splashdown". Well with this film the Jacobson brothers have scored (dare I borrow the term) a touchdown.
Kenny is one of the best Aussie flicks ever made. It's clever creation of Kenny, a toilet installer, is just brilliant. Kenny is totally believable as a bloke who's trying to do the best by his son and the company he works for. He's totally likable and the way he sticks to what he values most is a real inspiration. Not only does the movie have a terrific message, it's also very, very funny with lots of classic lines. Similar in style to The Castle, this is a movie that is well worth viewing.
Its hard not to respect Kenny - for all the trials and tribulations his clients, staff and the general public put him through, his honest nature brings him out on top of the dungheap. A classic Australian film.
not as good as everyone said.not one i will put in my collection of 2,500 half of witch are anime.& si fi ,fantasy, crime.
This is a wonderful movie, with a balance of poignancy and comedy.
Kenny is brilliantly portrayed, as is the supporting caste.
I loved this and already consider it one of the Australian 'greats'.
Very clever and humorous "mockumentary". The fact that Kenny and his family seem genuine and funny carries the concept through to the end. Better than average fare and I recommend to all except littlies.
One of the greatest movies ever.
Very funny, lots of pathos.
Way better than I thought it would be - sick sort of humor but really funny none the less
This movie is awesome! It was really funny and it was good to see Melbourne featured in a good Aussie film.
Some elements of the movie were exceptional...like the acting of Jacobsen and direction by his brother. It was so convincing I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't a real doco. However, whilst the humour included some very clever one-liners delivered deadpan by Jacobsen, the movie wasn't really my cuppa. My brother and father recommended it as the 'most hilarious thing they'd seen in years.' THAT alone shoulda been my tip-off! lol
The story revolves around the real-life trials and tribulations of an amazingly tolerant, naive "Porterloo Plumber". His methods of dealing with the vicisitudes of his daily life without ever compromising his personal ethics leads to some hilarious and touching senes. You've got to love Kenny.
Average, I got it as i like aussie movies
One of the best movies ever. Hilarious!
Very much in the style of "The Office" instead of blatant Hollywood-style humor.
excellent i still laugh everytime i watch this master piece of comedy
Really enjoyed this one, although it was a lot more depressing than I thought it would be. Kenny's one-liners are amazing!
This movie was 'ok'. I cried laughing at two points, but overall it was a bit slow with no real point. Watch if you have nothing better to do.
Good toilet humour. What more could you want.
A bit slow to start, but a great laugh
had heard it was quite funny but actually thought it was a bit of a fizzer as most of the wit was flushed down the toilet, would have been better if it actually had a plot and not filmed as a mocumentry.
I found this movie very funny. It outlines some of our everyday thoughts and relates to them in a humorous way. Very Good
The ultimate in "toilet" humour
Best Aussie movie I've seen in a longgg time. Very funny.
OK, sort of interesting antihero. Very Australian, whatever that means.
It got such a build up...I found it nice enough, but nothing that I would watch again. Interesting for something "different"
Quite a funny Flick, in a quirky sort of way
One of the great Australian movies. A battler that does good.
Wasn't that keen to watch this movie but had heard a lot about it so felt the need. Glad I did, it proved to be a good Aussie film with some good laughs and interesting characters.
Someone has to do this job and Kenny does it with aplomb. A great laugh.
The more you see of this movie, the more it will draw the attention and laughs!
Awsome australian movie, my partner loved it.
This is a wonderful movie. I was a bit skeptical at first as it is done in doco style but it was more than worth the watch.
Kenny is a warm and wonderful guy and you take to him right away. He is a simple guy with simple wants and needs and is proud to be a dunny man. He enjoys his work and takes pride in it and he should as it really is an important job if you think about it.
It is a great family movie and very entertaining.
This is one movie that suffers badly from over-hype. After the initial poo jokes are done with , I found it getting very boring and didn't bother finishing it
Funny Aussie laugh. Totally enjoyed the movie
A quite, but excelent comedy, showing the everyday hillarious goings on in the "turd bussiness".We aussies show that everyday life can be funny, moving and entertaining without going in extremities, like the Yanks doing.
Some great comedy but also a little slow in parts.
Good Aussie humour - not as good as I expected though.
I loved this film but my wife hated it. Definitely a mans film with some great natural acting. Some great one liners and the dialogue between Kenny and his dad just made it for me.
Great movie loved his language and sayings. You could really believe you were watching a documentary bar the odd recognisable actor that appeared throughout. Some good morals and values given.
Great insight into kenny's life very likable guy and movie would watch it again.
This is one very funny movie, couldn't stop laughing all the way through.
A matter-of-fact treatment of a seldom discussed, or even noticed, essential service. Shane Jacobson came across as a salt of the earth, sociable, laidback, compassionate bloke with a strong work ethic. Didn't think we would like the film but quite enjoyed it.
An interesting look into one of those areas of life that we take for granted. Highlights the old addage " dont judge a book by its cover" -- but a little boring.
Just when you think its going to become tedius, it doesn't!!
if you're not offended by 'toilet humour' this is a gas! laugh-out-loud hilarious! thoroughly compelling, quirky Aussie comedy with a story -- although it does get slightly constipated towards the end ;-)
Excellent - simple story, very well told.
Lots of toilet humour! Very witty.
very watchable, quite funny.
Kenny kept us laughing but the movie wasn't as slick as the shorts indicated.
Fantastic!!! We laughed and laughed!!!!!!!!
A small film with a big heart. A lovely film. One of those films that does not try and be more than it is and just works so well as a result. Well worth watching. kenny is beautifully played and is such heartfelt performance to boot. The theme of a man who does a job that vrtually nobody notices and everybody takes for granted and does so with pride is really interesting and important. It is also very funny.
You had to feel for poor old Kenny.
A half good fictionalised documentary which pushes the one joke aspect of the story a bit too much. Had more time been spent on Kenny's relationships with family and friends it might have been more substantial.
Having heard SO much about this movie I probably expected a little too much. It's funny, but not the funniest thing I've ever seen. There are some great one-liners and Kenny's dad is probably the most Australian character ever to have been portrayed on celluloid.
The Jacobson boys have definitely got writing talent, and some great insight into what makes people tick. I love the final scene: so deserved.
We should all be as accepting as Kenny is of the world and people around us.
Great writing - in the laidback, sardonic Aussie style of "The Castle".
Virtuoso performance of the Kenny character was excellent.
Showed aspects of a hidden "underclass" that society needs but does not appreciate until you are threatened by its withdrawal - a bit like an aged care hostel (I would not want to see THAT movie!).
Dragged a bit in some parts, but it was only 90 minutes long so that was tolerable.
Happily enough, very few toilet jokes (of the schoolboy variety). I was glad the movie was not "smellavision" as you can imagine the smell in many of the scenes (and I dont mean that pejoratively).
I liked the scene where Kenny obligingly opens and closes the toilet door rapidly to 'clear the air" for the next user. What a considerate fellow!
Didn't care for it much. Bit boring
This is a funny movie. good entertainment
This film creeps up on you slowly and by the end you have real empathy for the main character. This is no mean feat given the focus of most of the activities: la merde!
Quite good, heard a lot about it. It was funny in parts, but probably not as funny as I had expected.Still better than what is on TV most nights!
yes it was ok i got a few laugh's
Great fun. Gave me a new insight as to how the other half lives - at least how some people live. I had never thought about the details of this life.
some laugh out loud moments. Different and touching too!
It was good because it made us realise to treat people equally no matter what job they have.
Hilarious, Excellent. We were disappointed when it finished.
This film wasn't bad quite funny in places worth watching
My husbank and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone
Laughed a lot - watched it twice.
hard worker story I hope he ended up with the girl in the end.
hope there is going to be a follow up
Unusual,entertaining film and wonderful script.
Good movie found it quite funny,I would watch it again
It just seemed to go on and on. But my hubby like it. I guess thats toilet humour for you??
Just brilliant, hadn't laughed like that in a long time - thank you 'Kenny'.
This movie is gold.A great feel good movie.Steve Jacobson is very convincing as the plumber, at some points, i had to remind myself that it was all a movie. Very well made.
Very funny and witty. Extremely well done.
I have not laughed so much in a long time.. It's a movie for those who love aussie slag
What a hoot, loved it another aussie classic.
Funny in parts though not as much as I had expected. Still worth watching though.
Kenny wasn't as good as I had been told by others, but I did enjoy it
Was not what I expected but quite enjoyable. He is a typical Aussie bloke
Found it funny in one section only.
Hilarious and very clever. Quasi documentary style tells a great story about Kenny, and also about the culture of working class Australian blokes. A laugh out loud, true blue Aussie film.
i originally rented this to find out what the fuss was all about. mockumentaries were the rave when this came out in the theaters, and i just wasn't in the mood for yet another wannabe.
but i was intrigued by the adventures of kenny, and the disfunctional relationships with his family.
Very entertaining, not a rollicking laugh but many little snippets of real life characters.Typical interactions as Aussies. A real corker !! Mate !
Good Australian movie. Fairly good laugh
This is a classic. Father of Kenny is a ripper and provides the best laughter of the film. This is definitely not one of the Aussie made duds!!!
Very funny.... great story about an ordinary guy.
did not live up to the hype it was a cute story but not a must see (plumber) husband hated it and went to bed
Hillarious. Great Aussie Film.
I had this movie for 2wks, trying to psyche myself up to watch it. Then I finally put it into the player, watched a few of the 'cuts' and just couldnt get into it - so ended up not watching it. I've heard great reviews from friends so some of you may enjoy it.
If you like toilet humour you should find this movie funny. Gives you a new found respect for people who work in this industry.
Good fun, could have been a little shorter but just sit back and enjoy the ride. Good for the end of the week when your looking for a light hearted movie and few laughs.
Very touching - -great laugh
crap like the subjectof the movie
Completely believeable performances! Kenny is one of lifes nice guys that get overlooked for all sorts of reasons but like the movie, he is one of lifes gems. We could all be a little more like "Kenny" in this world!
An absolute ripper of a movie. If you like aussie humour then this is a must-see.
What a great movie, full of real life situations that would make you cry if you wernt laughing.
Kenny is just trying to do his best in a job he is proud of. With a father who thinks he should get a proper job, and an ex-wife who likes to make life harder, Kenny does his best.
One of The funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Great one liners
absolutely hilarious, very funny clever film, could overtake "the castle" and become an aussie cult movie.
hahahahahhahahahahahhahahahhaha
Having been a splashdown customer for 10 years this is just so true to life it is wonderful.
I have known many Kenny's and this is just wonderful
Mocumentary so if you are looking for another Castle it is different - mainly one liners but classic
Some really good aussie humour here. Kenny has a great philosophy on life and we could all take a leaf out of his book.
Aussie cinema at its best.
Not sure what to expect, not having read any previous reviews, was happily surprised that the format, once you got used to it, was really effective. Some great Aussie one-liners that I have never heard before but want to remember for later use myself! You really get to feel for Kenny though all of his "adventures" and misfortunes. I liked the documentary style, and found it light and extremely good Aussie comedy entertainment. Loved it!
A beautiful character study of a person and his chosen occupation. Many people willavoid the film if they find it is aboutthe portable toilet industry.there is lots of humour,an interesting Family situation but above all a look at the life of a man who values all Life deals out to him, heis a sensitive wonderful person
I guess this is the sort of movie you love or you hate. I didn't find it overly funny and it was VERY slow. I was really disappointed in this movie as I expected better based on the hype. Shane's portral of Kenny was good but the script was lacking and so was the humour or maybe I just don't like "Toilet" humour
Not really a movie in the normal meaning of that term. More like something you might see on 'Australian Story': 'this is my life' type of thing. But very Australian and true to life. Worth seeing.
Very funny a jolly good laugh Kenny is a very likeable fellow
this was the best aussie movie l have seen in a while, boy i loved the father he was just sooooooooooooo funny..
This is a very funny movie....and shows how most people cringe away from the people who are prepared to work hard and get their hands dirty. Poor Kenny I wanted to bring him home or at least give him a cuddle..
Really entertaining loved it.
Congratulations to the Jacobsens for producing this little gem which typifies the Aussie sense of humour of ordinary everyday Aussies. Kenny is so-like one of my mates and I have run into other similar characters.
This movie is so endearing. Just watch it.
Kenny as a 'doco' is quintessentially Australian. I don't believe this film could be made anywhere else, it sooooo AUsie! The film is raw, warm and fills you with a sense that 'if Kenny can do it so can I'!
It was more like a documentary, don't know what all the hype is about.
Absolutely brilliant! I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Move over "The Castle", KENNY is now my favourite Aussie Movie. I found myself cheering for the underdog!
Didn't really live up to the hype surrounding it. One liners were great.
This is not quite 4 stars- but what the hell. Patriotism or that special uniqueness that I get out of Australian movies. But it is good. Lots of laughs. One liners and sayings that I haven’t heard for decades. Very Aussie. Different. Almost poignant and touching in places. Loses momentum and then picks up again. What an effort for such a small team.
Brilliant, in a word. Kenny is lovable, funny and an all round great movie. Although the movie has quite a bit of swearing in it you don't seem to notice it as it's in context. A great Australian movie that shows how laid back Australians really are.
If you love toilet humer you will love this
Great Aussie movie - loved it!
Refreshing Australian view of the world. Funny and genuine characters provoke thoughts about the world we live in with all of its inescapable realities.
We were disappointed with this one & only watched part of it. Found the frequent toilet humour puerile & boring.
This movie was great my partner and i really enjoyed it. go Kenny!!
excellent - not to be missed
Kenny was a real find. Not like any movie I've seen before it follows the life of a regular Aussie bloke with a 'seldom talked about' job. His Dad is an absolute classic - put this one in your Quickflix Queue now!.
Kenny was great. Laughed all the way through it. Great documentary/story about life in the 'poo' business. Was I allowed to say that. hehehe.
very informative on that type of work. didnt realise how rude some people can be.
thought it was great toilet humour without being to gross. loved all the characters espeically the dad, kenny of course is great. would like to buy it
I guess I was disappointed as I had expected so much. Still a great movie, with some excellent one liners and colourful characters. A feel good movie.
Captured the moment perfectly
Great Aussie movie- a real belly laugh!!
I thought this was the best Aussie movie i have seen since Little Fish. Really enjoyed the toilet humour!! Must see.
Why do we Aussies love toilet humour? I don't know, but we do and this movie has it all. Shane Jacobson is brilliant and the rest of the cast support him beautifully. I think the whole point is that we shouldn't take each other for granted or belittle people with jobs we haven't got the guts to do. Good on you, Kenny, for showing us the way! The exploration of family realtionships was well handled and there's even a bit of romance tactfully thrown in for the soft-hearted. I thoroughly enjoyed it but not everyone gets it if they expect a straight up entertaining story.
Kenny is a down-to-earth Aussie with a kind heart & colorful language. Good storyline with lots of humor. Presented as a mockumentary.
'Kenny' made me laugh so hard and long I needed a port-a-loo of my own. If you get the ultra-Aussie humour of Muriel's Wedding, you'll love this. You might need to translate a lot of the true Aussie slang used throughout, but it really makes the whole thing true to life. Much like an under-stated 'Kath & Kim'.
Sorry don't get what all the fuss was about with this film. Found it dragged until half way through then it was interesting to the the end.
We loved this movie about a very unusual subject. We learned a lot about the loo business, didn't realize it was so complicated.
I'm not a fan of Australian movies as a general rule (bad I know, but a fact), so it has taken me a while to watch this one. What a wonerful surprise ... It is a really lovely film ... great story, great characters, well shot ... Congratulations Jacobson brothers ... fantastic job ... please give us more like this one.
A quality and quintessential Australian movie, driven by great characters and great writing. Laugh out loud funny, whimsical and original.
Another good Aussie movie, a little different as it starts off as a one person narrative, but humour in every line, and develops into a great story about a nice person with a strange career.
Exceptional movie - Loved it
An absolutley brilliant film, typically Australian and full of wit and wonderfully memorable characters. Shane Jacobson is totally beleivable as the hardworking Splashdown employee with a big heart, so much so I forgot I was watching a film! It's great to see Melbourne's major events as backdrops to the film too ... Very, very much worth a look.
The best Aussie movie I have ever seen. A very different kind of "Aussie humour" that totally works. No wonder he won an award for it at the AFI awards. Congratulations to the whole cast and crew for a "must watch" movie. The story line and script is great with loads of laughs, but the best scene is left to last. Que sera sera !
