Just Friends is a fast paced comedy about a high school dweeb, Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) who is humiliated when he tries to land the girl of his dreams….his best friend Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart). Never recovering from the embarrassing incident, he leaves town to make something of himself.
It’s ten years later and Chris finds himself back in his hometown for the holidays. He is now a successful, handsome, playboy who has everything a guy could want….until he is reunited with the girl he could never get.

Very predictable. Quite a poor movie. Give Ryan Reynolds a very poor rating. One is less inclined to watch any more of his efforts. Unless you really need to pass time, don't bother watching.

Takes the Ugly Duckling / Swan story and gives it a modern, funny spin. A few laugh-out-loud moments, a few silly scenes too - but ultimately, this is fairyfloss entertainment at its best. Grab some best friends, chocolate and popcorn and enjoy Ryan Reynolds - er, enjoy the movie.

Not one of the best movies I've watched, but it was watchable and had a few funny moments. I didn't like the way they tried to portray Ryan Reynolds in the Jim Carrey mould, it didn't suit him, he was funny doing his own comedy.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie but it was laugh-out-loud funny and had a great story. Ryan Reynolds in a fat suit is enough to get a smile out of most people but the laughs kept coming. Yes, slapstick comedy but a fine example and despite the predicable ending it's a comedy romance that even the boys can enjoy.

Ryan Reynolds is a great talent on his own, so why he chose to channel Jim Carrey in this movie is beyond me. Anna Farris steals the show as his brainless blonde pop star "girlfriend". Funny but not brilliant. Why any guy would want to go back to his home town where he grew up as an overweight dork after he's made something of himself and become hotter than hot to win the love of his "best female friend" when she wouldn't have a bar of him beyond friends all those years ago, is anybody's guess. But that's the premise of the movie. The interplay between Reynolds and his onscreen little brother Chris Marquette is often very funny.

Ryan Reynolds is always worth watching, but this is too much of a split - fans of embarrassment comedy will be bored by the romance, and people watching for the romance will want to fast-forward through the cringe-worthy 'slapstick'. Anna Farriss is great as a Britney Spears clone, though.
