Loved seeing a young Penelope and Javier! What I expected, a bit sexy, a bit of erotica, a bit warped and all with subtitles (by opting with the button on the remote). Enjoyed the odd journey. ¡Viva España!
Very enjoyable early performance by Penelope Cruz. Very quirky story involving a lot of ham and a moderate amount of sex!
There should be message very clearly saying that there are not english subtitles! !!! This movie is only for the spanish speaking community... not fair
plot weak, goes no where. Penelope cute,
You hit it on the head Trish. Great movie that stands the test of time. Ole
Wow, seeing a young Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem was pretty amazing. There was obviously a spark between them from the beginning (in real life too.) Killing with a ham reminded me of a later movie (What Have I Done to Deserve This) where a ham bone was also a lethal weapon. Pedro Almovodar should be a national treasure of Espana, Ole!
A story of a young girl, who is pregnant, the overbearing mother and the man the mother hires to seduce the girl away from her son... A love square! A bit of a "boob" fixation... The final scene, what I'd like to call 'death by ham' is kind of funny...
I managed to get the subtitles (after a few minutes of realising there weren't any playing automatically), by using the a button on the remote control.
As there were no Subtitles' on this disk it made it hard to get the full picture. What I was able to work out from my lack of Spanish was still a good movie.
Quite bizarre, but entertaining nonetheless.
Spanish plot-tangled tragi-comedy melodrama at its best. This film marks the Spanish director's tribute to his 'surreal' culture and the discovery of Penelope Cruz. Ham, trucks, dust, barbecues, family values--What more could you want?
The passion here is suitably intense (predictable really in a Spanish film) and the story's plot twists are wierdly culinary - with a breast fixation! Prior to this I wasn't a big fan of Penelope Cruz ... now at least I CAN watch her!
