Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the story of a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. The was super hero movies were meant to be. Action packed, fun and with the characters treated as multi-dimensional without being taken too seriously.
Similar to Superman in 1977, the film sets up a serious deep foundation and then after getting your buy-in on the character, proceeds to have fun with it. I admire this method, as it gets you invested in the characters and their histories but still makes it a fun ride.
Without the serious at the start, the fun in the second half would just seem camp. A nice balance

If you don't take it too seriously then it's a really fun action packed movie, even if a little predictable! Robert Downey Jr great in his role. Would definitely recommend it - and watch it again! Hope Iron Man 2 is as good! :-)

I heard a lot of good things about this movie, but for the first hour I didn't think much of it, not until the special effects kicked in. .It was awesome, but typical good versus evil with a fairly predictable ending.

Robert Downey Jr is a major force to be reckoned with in this movie. His dramatic and comedic timing is perfect. Fantastic screenplay that sees a shallow war monger turn caring super guy won me. The gadgets and robots and stunts were just awesome. This is one i will definitely watch again.

An absolute hoot. Robert Downey Jr is absolutely convincing as the self-absorbed weapons manufacturer who experiences an epiphany in the desert and turns super-hero. Gwyneth Paltrow does a nice turn as a latter-day Moneypenny. Effects gone wild, lots of laughs and suspense in a good romp of a movie.

wat a shock, i was expecting a flick similar to spiderman etc. instead i was pleasantly surprised by an extremely well made movie.. well done r. downey jnr, acting was great.. i really enjoyed this film and recommend it to all..

Really loved this film. Was good from start to finish. You start to wonder how many more superhero films they can do but with this one, the story was unique and it didn't feel like it was a superhero story re-hashed- it was brilliant! and Robert Downey Junior was brilliant in it too. Looking forward to Iron Man 2!!

The females in our family all thought this was Batman with different actors and no Robin. The males think it is cool, excellent, a great movie, a blast, can't wait for the sequel. I guess it depends which chair you sit in to watch it!

Wow - this is a superhero movie for adults! A killer plot (ignore the obvious flaws in logic), amazing CGI and RDJ is very very good as the Iron Man himself. Watch the full credits for the bonus bit at the end of the movie. Not sure that the kids will like it. Gee RDJ's looking good these days - a welcome return to the big screen for him. Very highly recommended.

I was quite impressed with this movie. Super hero type movies are not the genre that I normally watch, however, I found this movie entertaining and interesting. It was different. I loved Robert Downey Jr in this role, and I think Gwenyth Paltrow was wonderful as his side-kick. Looking forward to the next installment!

Superb! Robert Downey Jnr is the only actor who could have portrayed the smooth, sarcastic Tony Stark with any credibility. Like all comic strip characters he has a 'revelation' (his company's weapons kill people!!!!) and this prompts him to don another guise in order to protect the innocent. Brilliant effects, brilliant script, hell even Gwyneth Paltrow surprises as a stern and fabulous Pepper Potts. Get it now!

I thought this film was extremely boring. It gave me no excitement or any reason to keep watching. I left it running in the background as i did other things and still managed to work out the story.
It was too long for what it was and i certainly won't be seeing any sequels.
It just wasn't for me.

So now we know Downey Jr is more than just good and this movie is only just good. I suspect I was expecting too much from this, certainly more than just the preparation for the sequel or spin off or whatever is comming next.

I have to admit that comic book adaptations are not my cup of tea but because of the hype I felt I had to give it a go. Comic book adaptations are still not my cuppa, but, I have to admit that this was better than most. Robert Downey Jnr. was terrific and the script had some beaut one-liners. Gwyneth Paltrow was, as usual in my opinion, "on the money" as Pepper Potts-the best character name I've heard in a long time.

A bizarre movie: some of the time it seems quite normal - as normal as the life of a super-rich weapons-manufacturing playboy can be - while at other times it is complete fantasy and totally confusing and boring at that. Overall just too silly to enjoy.

Maybe my expectations were too high with all the media hype. I don't know. I had even bought this movie on Blu Ray, but I don't think I'll watch it again. Its a nice movie, but in my opinion it lacks action and thrill.

I love Robert Downey Junior. I love comic books and I love IRON MAN. A whole bunch of factors come together to make a really great movie. I love the values shown. I love all the technology. It is a real eye opener having a super hero fight major crime and conspiracy around the world. Not just petty domestic crimes. Terrence Howard adds another great dyanmic. Just love him. The only critisisms i have to make is that some parts of the movie are too dark and it makes it very hard to see what is happening and that the Pepper Potts character needed a stronger, more assertive actress.

While a hoot of a film there seems a lot of reference to RoboCop whether intended or not. While Downey Jr's dialogue may crackle, I can only thank subtitles for being able to follow it. Oh, and good to see Gwynnie back again.

Usually you expect some fatal flaw in these types of movies - you know the Yanks can't seem to make a movie without some weird cute muppet type fluffy talking animal or a hero punching an alien in the nose - or some such silly thing that spoils what could have been great?
But - this was really good! Excellent effects, great acting and very good storyline (for a Sci fi). AND - only minimal attempts at humour via a robot or two!

i love superhero flicks, and i love robert downey jnr. but this film was SO awful- the superhero quips were shit if they were there at all, storyline was obvious (as is to be expected of superhero films) and gwenyth paltrow was a snore (as is to be expected of gwenyth paltrow)! and it was difficult for me to ignore the politics- it seems the US only kills terrorists that attack their fellow civilians. uh, yeah, whatever makes you sleep at night.

I used to buy Marvel comics when I was a kid and have thought that, apart from Spiderman, they were not up to the standards set by the comics. My favourite hero was actually Iron Man and I was not expecting good things from this film version at all. I could not have been more wrong. This is the definitive Marvel action hero film and I could not have asked for more. Excellent!

Long to get started into the action but once it does it moves quickly. Excellent performance from Robert Downey Jnr. as always, but one wonders what Gwyneth Paltrow is doing in the role of his personal assistant/secretary/love interest/heroin, when the role is not very challenging or seems to be that much fun. Must have been the big bucks cause it's certainly no Dame Judi Dench in the Bond films. But a good film, with some good action, and a very perinent theme.

Won tickets to this through Quickflix competition. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved being able to see the foreign scenery in all its roughness. The main character is like a McGiver in that he was able to build himself a suit that gets him out of sticky and dangerous situations. There were some scary parts and some comedy parts. Definitely watch this one! Its super outrageous and the soundtrack is awesome!

Iron Man may well be one of the minor superheroes in the Marvel stables, but Iron Man the movie is certainly not a minor movie. I fact, I am going out on a limb and calling it the best superhero movie so far. Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark has more character and attitude in his little toe than all the Clark Kents, Bruce Waynes and Peter Parkers put together. The back story to the creation of Iron Man is compelling and the action is real and convincing. The gadgets, cars (including the eye-watering Audi R8) and Stark’s Malibu cliff-top pad are all utterly cool. I even (contrary to popular opinion) like the Gwyneth Paltrow side-kick, Pepper Potts. My boys have not stopped talking about the movie. Word like “sick” and “awesome” have been bandied about.

Finally a superhero movie that addresses my query: "How come this hero with all his powers is focusing on petty US domestic crime?". Ironman struts his stuff in locations that could use it the most!
You all know the story. Our accidental hero will be faced with the challenge of his life and needs to shape up or ship out if he's going to make it. Stop reading now if you can't guess that he's going to shape up. What makes the film isn't the formula, it's the stuffing.
For the modern day audience that's been dampened by sophisticated eye candy, usually without creative substance, the special effects in this application is nothing short of cool. I found myself breaking out into spontaneous applause for the parts I didn't see in the trailer. Of course the usual Hollywood cringe moments were still there, fortunately they were kept to a minimum.
