A romantic comedy with bite.

Miles Massey, a prominent Los Angeles divorce attorney has everything--and in some cases, two of everything. Despite his impressive client list, a formidable win record, the respect of his peers and an ironclad contract (the Massey pre-nup) named after him, he's reached a crossroads in his life. Sated on success, boredom has set in and he's looking for new challenges. All that changes when Miles meets his match in the devastating Marylin Rexroth. Marylin is the soon-to-be ex-wife of his client Rex Rexroth, a wealthy real estate developer and habitual philanderer. With the help of hard charging private investigator Gus Petch, she has Rex nailed and is looking forward to the financial independence a successful divorce will bring. But thanks to Miles' considerable skills, she ends up with nothing. Not to be outdone, Marylin schemes to get even and as part of her plan, quickly marries oil tycoon Howard Doyle. Miles and his unflappable associate, Wrigley, unwittingly dig themselves in deeper and deeper as they go head-to-head with Marylin. Underhanded tactics, deceptions and an undeniable attraction escalate as Marylin and Miles square off in this classic battle of the sexes.

Still fresh and funny 9 years on. You could watch this now and think it was a new release. Such is the talent of the Coen Bros. It's lightweight but subtley done, as someone said "like a Carey Grant movie". Clooney can take a lot of the credit for this turning out so well but all the other actors were also well cast. Billy Bob and Geoffrey Rush in cameo roles were brilliant, and Zeta-Jones was the "Perfect Wife". A great watch and one for the library and good to see people still watching it.

One of George Clooney's best movies! He demonstrates a great comic timing I hadn't seen in him before. Katherine Zeta is also utterly watchable and their chemistry really makes this a classic Coen.

The Coen Bros have done it again! Thought this would be a chick flick categorised by the likes of Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock, but it was far more sophisticated and scattered with belly-laughs, which I must admit I wasn't expecting. The script was great, the wardrobe enviable and the acting from all and sundry flawless. George Clooney is great eye candy and a modern day Cary Grant; perhaps a Sean Connery in the making... the older he gets, the better he gets (acting and charm). Definitely recommended.

Intolerable Cruelty (2003) Got off to a great start promising a great comedy but fell then faded to a tired and predictable finish. George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones are a great team making this film worth it but not great . 2 stars.

A "B" grade story of family litigation -- attempted comedy carried off only by the several star actors recruited - why did they waste their talents?

The problem with this movie is that the characters are more caricatures. There is no depth, you feel no empathy. There were some funny moments, but I prefer to laugh at reality rather than attempts at slapstick (?) that just aren't funny. A film that attempts this and does it brilliantly is 'O Brother, Where Art Though' Catherine Zeta Jones is a dud.

Did the Coen brothers just wake up one morning and decide to have a go at romantic comedy? I wasn't sure about this one initially as it's very different to the Coen's previous films but it is absolutely brilliant. The cast are perfect and Catherine Zeta Jones and George Clooney have plenty of chemistry. The script is well written with enough twists to keep things interesting and the Coens' as always have an interesting set of bit players filled with famous actors. One of the best romantic comedies in years.

The kooky Coen brothers strike again! Although, this time it is with a toned down humour, with very little to be politicaly incorrect about. George Clooney lights up the screen and Catherine Zeta Jones acting ability shines in the odd material. Geoffrey Rush has the be the highlight of the film. Not the Coens best, but no bodys perfect.

The two words "romantic" and "comedy", when applied to any film, is usually enough to put any bloke off a film. However, when it's a Coen brothers film, rather than the usual cringing American schmaltz you get a sharp, snappy, witty and very funny film. The two lead performances by George Clooney and Catherine Welsh-tart are pure parodies of themselves, the plot twists along, and the dialog is superb. Blokes should not be put off!
