Moderate sexual references, Moderate themes

Director: Curtis Hanson
Actors: Anson Mount, Brooke Smith, Cameron Diaz, Mark Feuerstein, Richard Burgi, Toni Collette, Jason Peck, Candice Azzara, John Mastrangelo Sr., Emilio Mignucci, Terrance Christopher Jones, Nicole Randall Johnson, Kateri Demartino, Brandon Karrer, Jon Ingrassia

One is a party girl who steals, lies and leeches off anyone she can. She believes that her looks will get her through anything, but her idea of sex is a drunken fumble in a bathroom during a high school reunion during which even the remotest hint of romance is demolished when she throws up. The other is a lawyer with low self-esteem and an ordered life which, when it includes a man, is something that she confesses, “does not usually happen to her”. At the moment, however, she has found herself in bed with her boss, Jim (Richard Burgi) and she likes him a lot.

Maggie and Rose Feller (Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette) are sisters who could not be more unalike. When their differences finally push them apart they ultimately discover – through a grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) whose existence has been kept secret from them by their father (Ken Howard) – that they are incomplete without each other.

Started off quite dull - very chick flik, so we nearly turned it off but it did get better when you see the wayward sister do good in her grandmothers retirement village.

A well scripted movie, with some very good performances by the main cast. Very female oriented story, but I have to admit as a male I had to odd tear occasionally! Some very believable characters and relationships. A pleasant surprise.

Wasn't sure about it at the beginning but as it went on, really enjoyed it, especially with Shirley Maclean and friends at the retirement village. The extras are worth watching too, especially the interviews with the retirees.

An excellent character driven movie. In both sisters you find something you can relate to, enticing you to want to know more. An intriguing story, well told by director and actresses. A chick flick I guess but one with a little more to it.

Surprisingly good. Actually I remember watching this a few years ago, but I think I turned it off after 20 mins because I was expecting a funny, light-hearted chick flick (which can be lots of fun to watch), and it definetely wasn't that. This time round, I watched it the whole way through... (God does Cameron Diaz have the body of a goddess or what!!), and the story is deeply moving.

Great movie where Shirley steals the show its terms of endearment well not really but has the same flavour and cameron diaz is good in this role.has some touching moments and sisterly spats but love is all around and in general a feel good movie.a bit of cocoon thrown in to with the elderly citizens shining in each of the roles they play

Such a brilliant cast ensemble was going to create a great production, but the fact that the story was well constructed and revealed at a consistent pace made this drama disguised as a comedy a joy to watch. Diaz demonstrates more of her versatility, Collette is as masterful as always and MacLaine pure and simply made me glow. Director Hanson must be mentioned for drawing a tear as well as the original author Jennifer Weiner. Having not read the book however (as I prefer with adaptations to avoid disappointment) I'm not sure how much of work was left intact.

What a great character-driven story. Although at times slow, the cast and crew were nothing short of excellent and the characters they portrayed seemed mirror images of family and friends. Good laughs, good story, good performances and Cameron Diaz in skimpy lingerie... hello!

Enjoyed the movie from go to whoa. I just love Shirley Maclaine and how she can make a film complete with her excellent delivery and facial expressions. Two sisters so different, yet each with their own quirky ways, inhibitions and feelings of inadequacey. Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz complemented each other throughout the film, highlighting the importance of being able to communicate with your siblings, express feelings and help each other with their shortcomings. A bit of everything in this feature, however I had more smiles than anything else and the supporting cast were the icing on the cake.

From an unpromising start, this movie gets better as it goes. You start to care about the characters and the story will bring out laughs and tears. What more could one want from a movie? And the three leading women in the film are all excellent.

We are never ones to watch chick flicks and i think put this movie on our list because it had the wonderful Shirley Maclaine. However we were pleasantly suprised with the whole movie and ended up really enjoying it. Cameron Diaz plays the dumb blonde role so well, and although Toni Collette will always be, well, Muriel, she too was good. It had a good but reasonably predictable storyline and Shirley Maclaine's character really gave the movie a lift. Without telling anything of the story - great style of wedding at the end.

Toni Collette is great. She is so versatile in each of her roles. Unfortunately there was no chemistry between her and the fiance. Miscast here. Cameron Diaz was fabulous as usual. Shirley Maclaine also fabulous. As with all Hollywood films, the plot was predictable and the Jewish jokes stale and stereotyped. I enjoyed this film nevertheless.
