Started off quite dull - very chick flik, so we nearly turned it off but it did get better when you see the wayward sister do good in her grandmothers retirement village.
A well scripted movie, with some very good performances by the main cast. Very female oriented story, but I have to admit as a male I had to odd tear occasionally! Some very believable characters and relationships. A pleasant surprise.
Wasn't sure about it at the beginning but as it went on, really enjoyed it, especially with Shirley Maclean and friends at the retirement village. The extras are worth watching too, especially the interviews with the retirees.
Love this movie it has a really good story line to it and it's sad
Not a bad movie , Watched it a few times.
A good sister-movie chick flick. Nothing too heavy.
Not usually my kind of film but a worthwhile storyline. Toni Collette is a terrific actress.
An excellent character driven movie. In both sisters you find something you can relate to, enticing you to want to know more. An intriguing story, well told by director and actresses. A chick flick I guess but one with a little more to it.
enjoyed this movie, recommend it.
Wonderful acting by three women...Diaz is a revelation and Maclain is so real...a must see movie for all u romantics out there.....put this in the top ten of your queue...an 8/10 from me
What a pleasant and worthwhile surprise this movie was .. fabulous story line, well acted .. such a REAL movie. A definite must watch
Good movie, had already seen it before but happily watched it again.
Surprisingly good. Actually I remember watching this a few years ago, but I think I turned it off after 20 mins because I was expecting a funny, light-hearted chick flick (which can be lots of fun to watch), and it definetely wasn't that. This time round, I watched it the whole way through... (God does Cameron Diaz have the body of a goddess or what!!), and the story is deeply moving.
This movie is classic "chick-flick" and guys - I warned you. But, girls...if you haven't seen this one - rent it! It's my favorite - one you'll want to watch again.
Not worth the effort, too much talk, too much time wasted to stretch the film out.........
Great movie where Shirley steals
the show its terms of endearment well not really but has the same flavour and cameron diaz is good in this role.has some touching moments and sisterly spats but love is all around and in general a feel good movie.a bit of cocoon thrown in to with the elderly citizens shining in each of the roles they play
This film was going along brilliantly until the confusing and disapppointing last 15mins or so of the film
This movie is really a chic flik but it is a really good insight to how different two sisters really can be. Very good movie!
I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected.
Enjoyable! Cameron Diaz plays the part perfectly.
I thoughrly enjoyed this movie
Really good storyline and the 3 main actresses were excellent. I could watch this movie over and over...
Great chick flick about the complexities of life, love and families. Very heart warming and a good tear jerker at times.
We thouroughly enjoy this movie. Would watch it over and over again
Loved it, good chick flick
i really enjoyed this movie,it outlines that people can change
For a chick flick, you really can't go past this one. If you have a sister, even better, get her to watch it too. I thought it was brilliant.
The three main characters each bring something so that everyone can relate. Shirley McLean's performance is truly magnificent. Having the retiree's from a real retirement village added a touch of sincerity. A believable plot.
Such a brilliant cast ensemble was going to create a great production, but the fact that the story was well constructed and revealed at a consistent pace made this drama disguised as a comedy a joy to watch. Diaz demonstrates more of her versatility, Collette is as masterful as always and MacLaine pure and simply made me glow. Director Hanson must be mentioned for drawing a tear as well as the original author Jennifer Weiner. Having not read the book however (as I prefer with adaptations to avoid disappointment) I'm not sure how much of work was left intact.
I loved this movie. Talk about art imitating life. I can fully understand the complexities of the sisters relationship as I have lived it myself.
What a great character-driven story. Although at times slow, the cast and crew were nothing short of excellent and the characters they portrayed seemed mirror images of family and friends.
Good laughs, good story, good performances and Cameron Diaz in skimpy lingerie... hello!
For me, definitely a 5 star movie. I loved it - even my husband enjoyed it!
Glade i dont have a sister.
Easy to watch movie. Probably not for younger 20ish somethings!
Great casting on lead roles - would recommend.
The first half hour was a bit slow but it got better and better. I really loved it in the end, fantastic film, well acted, believable story for anyone who ever had a family!
i think it was an excellent movie worth watching again
i think it was an excellent movie worth watching again
It was a good movie but could have been much better with such a good cast
Great movie!! real girly flick.. has a good story and morale behind it.
Great movie!! real girly flick.. has a good story and morale behind it.
Loved it!! The characters in this movie feel real and leave you feeling happy about how things turn out for them. Its good to see that the sisters actually learned from each others mistakes & successes without even realising it.
very poignant & funny. Really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this movie.
great acting
Worth watching - go Toni!
Hard to know - the DVD pixelated halfway through just as Cameron Diaz had met Shirley Maclaine.
Enjoyed the movie from go to whoa. I just love Shirley Maclaine and how she can make a film complete with her excellent delivery and facial expressions. Two sisters so different, yet each with their own quirky ways, inhibitions and feelings of inadequacey. Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz complemented each other throughout the film, highlighting the importance of being able to communicate with your siblings, express feelings and help each other with their shortcomings. A bit of everything in this feature, however I had more smiles than anything else and the supporting cast were the icing on the cake.
excelent chick flick, even the boyfriend had a tear in the eye. Must see
great watching, complex relationships that don't show history until well into movie, when Diaz irritating behavour starts to have a reason..good script
I was not expecting this movie to be to interesting as I am not really a chick flick type of girl but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie from start to finish well worth watching
I loved this movie. Has everything I like in a movie, laughs, romance, and happy ending. Great story. A chick flick.
I really enjoyed this movie, definitely worth watching
Excellent, depicting interesting family relationships developing into a great result. (ending). Well worth watching. Important to look at features as well as movie.
This movie is about love, trust and family bonds that tie us together. It is essentially a chick flick, but it is well worth watching Cameron and Toni struggle with their lives and the complexities of their relationship.
Enjoy
So many things reminded me of my relationship to my own little sister. A very thoughtful movie and very well played. Maybe a bit slow for people who like a lot of action, but I didn`t mind.
Great to see a character driven drama
Good girl movie you can easliy relate to it with the families
Really enjoyable movie. I guess it brings home the importane of families sticking together no matter what.
This movie was brilliant. You can feel the scenes - the humour, the frustration, the heartbreak and the love of the characters. If you are like me when it comes to movies, you will also need a couple of tissues. A good one to watch. I will be seeing this one again.
I had read the book before seeing this movie, so wasnt expecting much. The movie is more entertaining !!! it is a bit girlie though..
My wife and I throughly enjoyed the movie. We missed seeing it at the Cinema and glad to finally get a chance of seeing it on DVD. We were very impressed with the cast & storyline and believe there is a message of what Love, Careing & Understanding can do to help one another in any situation.
Convinced our Son & his Girlfriend to watch it. They did & also enjoyed the film.
Very well done, very enjoyable and touching movie.
Great Characters - wonderful story
One of the best movies I have seen in a while. I have recommended it to all my friends, especially those with sisters.
From an unpromising start, this movie gets better as it goes. You start to care about the characters and the story will bring out laughs and tears. What more could one want from a movie? And the three leading women in the film are all excellent.
Easy to watch, good acting and a script that has no violence. Even the guys will enjoy it. Shirley McClaine lifts it and rounds it off well. Loved the oldies parts too.
Very good cast, good show.
An okay movie to pass an hour away.
Brilliant... Toni Colette is outstanding. A real chick flick... Drama great sister story!!
Great flick for the girls but guys don't bother watching it.
Not bad, I thought it would be a chick flick, but it was better than that! Starts off a bit boring, but gets better!
The story line was good and it moved along well. Happy ending.
Good story as well as good lessons in this movie
and a half.
Would have been four, except for the overstated/cariacature portrayal of the Diaz character. My respect for Collette's work is reinforced, in spite of her character being a bit of an americanised Muriel (Muriel's Wedding).
A real chick flick, but plenty of grit to keep a few males interested. Great to see Cameron Diaz play the part she did. Showed new dimension to her.
We are never ones to watch chick flicks and i think put this movie on our list because it had the wonderful Shirley Maclaine. However we were pleasantly suprised with the whole movie and ended up really enjoying it. Cameron Diaz plays the dumb blonde role so well, and although Toni Collette will always be, well, Muriel, she too was good. It had a good but reasonably predictable storyline and Shirley Maclaine's character really gave the movie a lift. Without telling anything of the story - great style of wedding at the end.
I'm glad that I rented this movie, you can't say things about someone until you're "IN Her Shoes".Get this one if you have a bit of tenderness in U.
Toni Collette is great. She is so versatile in each of her roles. Unfortunately there was no chemistry between her and the fiance. Miscast here. Cameron Diaz was fabulous as usual. Shirley Maclaine also fabulous. As with all Hollywood films, the plot was predictable and the Jewish jokes stale and stereotyped.
I enjoyed this film nevertheless.
We really liked the way this seemed to come full circle- though I found it extremely challenging to morals and valuesx in the beginning. The family issues that this movie delved into were pretty heavy, but we loved it. We recommend it.
An excellent movie that the whole family enjoyed and all had a good laugh. Great cast, but Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette were fantastic. A very good storyline that could be easily understood and I am sure it related to a lot of family situations. Well worth the watch.
a bit slow but good story
Toni Collette is always worth a look. Light RM - easy watching.
I really enjoyed this on a Sunday afternoon. Sexy, funny and romantic. Cameron Diaz looks incredible, Toni Collette is kooky and sweet.
Great story with fine performances by all three actresses.
A great chick flick!
I got half way through and turned it off... "worst movie ever"
I'll be betting this one will be added to the all time fav chickflick lists shortly. A really enjoyable story and a great cast all round. Shirley McLaine in a more subdued role is the glue in the stiletto.
