This film is a gem. Understated it may be, but then that was the British attitude to WW2. Extremely well directed by Carol Reed the all star cast submerse themselves to the needs of the story. I believe this film accurately depicts how the war must have been for most people. The tension of the battle scenes at the end are also very well done to the point that I felt much more engaged with the film than many of the later modern attempts with their somewhat boring special effects. The charm of this film is its simple, accurate and no nonsense telling of an important period of our history.

A very old movie of a bunch of raw recruits training for the ultimate sacrifice and a young David Niven, but interesting with a bit of a sense of history and probably what England was like before the war.
