Did not enjoy this movie. Way too weird for me. Acting was good but left too many "what the" questions at the end of the movie for me to enjoy.
Plain silly...hence I watched about 20 minutes of it before I switched off
It was different but enjoyable all the same. I wonder how the movie would have been if Heath had not died during the making of it :( But this movie was sent to me twice in a row
Id recommend this only for artsy folk, It was a bit much for me, and I cant rate it more than 1 1/2 stars because of my experience, but for people who Like breaking down movies and looking beyond whats happening onscreen etc im sure this is a 4 1/2 star experience, Just not my cup of tea, Too weird.
Awful. Only watched about half an hour of it.
A strange movie. Very dark. Kids had trouble following it. Although it was good to see the other actors take over for Heath Ledger when he died before finishing the movie.
There are a number of BIG names in this movie. I confess that the main reason I was interested in watching it was because Johnny Depp was one of those names. I was disappointed, however, as Depp only appears briefly.
Another point is that this movie is Heath Ledger's last, before he died. That was another reason I wanted to watch it.
The movie was made with the purpose of being different, something no-one has ever done before. It definitely achieves this goal... but I just think that it was a little TOO different. The best way to describe this movie is, weird. I still don't understand half of what I saw.
So, if you like puzzles or surrealism, this movie is for you. But if you're like me and you just wanted to watch Johnny Depp, this movie will disappoint you.
Visually attractive but rather weird. We were also confused about the changing appearance of the Heath Ledger character until we found out that it wasn't all Ledger due to his death during filming!
Good movie for all the family
I loved this movie. And I loved how it confused me a little and made me think about things more and that I want to watch it again. I also think it was terrific how imaginative the directors were themselves when they were faced with Heath's death and an unfinished film. They way they handled it actually worked in the film's favour surprisingly.
very strange, the appearance of Johnny Depp is fleeting at best.
The first half of this movie was really slowly paced with boring dialogue and depressing circus acts but when Heath Ledger's Tony FINALLY leads people through the mirror door to the Imaginarium world, then things really kick off. The 3 leads playing Tony did a great job carrying on Heath Ledger's role, despite him passing far too soon. The visuals are really surreal and wacky but fun and exciting. It's a shame the first half couldn't be as engaging as the fantasy elements.
What an original take on good v's evil. i enjoyed it. (but I am also a fan of monty python)
I only watched this because it was Heath Ledgers last film. I found this a bit confusing and not really my kind of movie. I think the fact that it is confusing, having several actors to play Heath's character probably worked to their advantage.
hard to follow but great cast
Don't get sucked in by all the arty nonsense. This is just plain boring.
Wonderful actors and a great twist at the end. Highly recommended
Weirdly cool but not worth watching. Thought provoking but not memorable etc.
Terry Gilliam has finally produced a movie that draws on all of his earlier experiments ( Jabberwocky ) and works. It is a fantastic lush production with brilliant visuals and engaging performances. A must see
Of the half I watched before I sent it back I found this to be a very odd and at times disturbing movie. Perhaps after the sudden passing of Heath Ledger it should have been shelved.
Christopher Plummer is great and its nice to see Heath on screen, but this movie is too long and convoluted. The cameos from Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell are fun, but the whole story is a bit whacky.
Very different! I liked it but it was strange.
Pretty good. wish johnny depp had a bigger roll in it though..
this is outstanding, unusual theme, visually appealing and definitely worth a look, however, I prefer work of Tim Burton in this genre.
i was expecting more "imaginarium" strangeness from this film, which was unfortunately predominantly based in the real, and reasonably dull world.
interesting premise that i wasnt really expecting though, but it ultimately felt unsatisfying
Couldn't stand 10 minutes of this dissapointing story
Unusual! Felt like a movie that lost an actor partway through.
There is something alluring about the iconic late 19th century side show alley lifestyle on which this movie revolves around. Not sure why visions of an eccentric, odd, misfit ,gypsy freakshow are so intruiging. The movie is certainly disjointed , difficult to follow, wierd and incomprehensible, as other member reviews have noted. But it is nevertheless an act of escapism to watch it and experiencing the boundless outpourings of imagination are worth the effort.
Its a shame that most of the people who reviewed this movie lacked exactly what the whole story was about... an imagination. The title should have warned them away. Clever story, brilliant special effects and the calibre of acting was completely what it should have been for this wonderful bit of escapism and fun. I'm so glad my old mind is still capable of seeing what is beyond "real".
Dr. Parnassus played by The Sound of Music's Christopher Plummer is a magician of different kind. Set in the modern world, those who encounter Dr. Parnassus, his daughter and two assistants have little respect or inclination for the show the troupe offer. That is until they rescue Tony, who is played by the late Heath Ledger in his last movie role. Tony helps Dr. Parnassus revitalize the show, and captures the heart of his daughter. Unbeknownst to them all Dr. Parnassus holds many secrets and the increase in business comes at an opportune time; however Tony also is not all he seems either...
Excellent special effects, however given it is Ledger's last offering it may disappoint his fan base. The assistance of Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell after Ledgers death was introduced cleverly by the film makers.
R.I.P. Mr Ledger.
absolutely the most boring ,mundane film i have ever had the misfortune to "try"to watch ....i realise i have totally wasted an hour and a half of my life ,dont waste your time with this one [no stars]
Very disappointed with film. But wanted to see Heath's last film. I also agree not a PG rating first 10 minutes it's a bit full on for younger children.
Interesting concept but found the storyline confusing and difficult to follow at times. Was expecting more.
Strange movie, I found it difficult to follow. Respect the effort of Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell.
Interesting! Unusual and imaginative - the costumes and scenery were a delight for the imagination. It's really a fantasy with a theme of good and evil, selling out to the devil for short term benefit which has been done a million times but this version is worth looking at if you enjoy magical realism. I was entertained.
Bizarre! Very confusing with seemingly very little story line.
It may look interesting when you see the promotion material but I thought it was confusing and then annoyingly boring. The actors are well known and did a good job but the subject matter and its presentation was terrible. Simply a very unusual film.
Too bizarre for me - there were some visually stunning moments and some great actors but overall I found the movie really boring and I started falling asleep at the end. My husband liked it though!
I thought this movie would be good from the reviews but it was the MOST boring movie I think I have ever watched.
Not what I expected. Not the usual fantasy we have come to expect with new release movies these days. Maybe they are running short on ideas. Wasn't really happy with the movie. But someone may like it.
Werid but I wanted to see Heath's last film
felt sad watching ledgers last performance, the film had potential to do more though
Too weird for my taste, even with Johnny!
Different, well played by all. I wonder how much the script had to change around heath's misfortune.(Damn Shame that)
cause the change of faces worked in so well.
Like all Terry Gilliam films; great looking, beautiful imagery and art direction but lacking substance and story.
Very disappointing. The movie is rated PG but some very unsavoury words and gestures appear in the first 10 minutes. My three children under 10 all said it was weird.
geat film, loved the special features that included Heath Leadger.
loved it, very brilliant tour of Terry's brain, exceptional movie making :)
this was a fun movie and a good way to send off a great actor like heath ledger, for his last movie it was great. this was good movie had some weird stuff but was interesting and had a great amazing cast.
So nice to see a different movie for a change! i really enjoyed this movie and was taken up by it. It is eerily how they managed to be able to replace heath and make it look like that was the way the movie was always meant to be. I can see how this might not be for everyone, but I found it magical, thought-provoking, and beautiful to watch
I am 45 and quite enjoyed its oddness, but hey PG it is not, hanging scenes, swearing etc...and generally very disturbing to an 8 year old,(if I had allowed him to watch it past the 1st 15mins) which we got the movie out for.. it is PG!!! Cenoring should be far more responsible very disapointed!!!
Very odd film never seemed to do anything. It a film that promised much but forgot
what it was supposed to deliver, I would probably leave this one until other
choices were exhausted. Pick an old Godzilla at least you know what you are
Couldn't watch the movie to the end as too stupid.... if on acid it might have been better!
I was wondering how they would incorporate Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Johnny Depp and it was done really well. I really enjoyed this movie. Lily Cole was amazing, as was the cinematography.
This movie is not at all for children and rather slow.
When I first saw the advertisement for this film in the cinema I was really excited to see it. Then I read a mixture of reviews and was a little disappointed that the critics didn't really seem to be that impressed by it. I decided to watch it anyway and make up my own mind and now I am glad that I did because I really enjoyed this film from start to finish and look forward to seeing it again.I think I may even buy a copy of this one. All of the actors were brilliant - including some of the smaller roles. I just wish there was more of Johnny Depp - his screen time was too short!
Very disappointing film that, while looking quite stunning at times, simply lacks a decent plot.
This movie is just plain weird with very poor story line. I was so looking forward to it because I liked Heath Ledger's movies but I had to turn it off before others actors took over Heath Ledger role.
Imaginative narrative but in all honesty I don't get it completely. Feel the ending is a bit of a let down.
A very strange movie indeed. If your looking for a movie that is purely just pretty to watch, you don't have to use your brain at all, you just fall down the rabbits hole and enjoy, this is the ideal movie for you.
It is visually beautiful and cleverly made.
Okay...I'm not sure what I was expecting from this movie, but OMG weird! Such a shame that THIS movie was Heath Ledgers last film...
Not really PG so watch with caution with children under age 14. Hype excused from the impact of having special 'guest' actors, this movie was enjoyable. The added charactors made sense within the plot of the movie which was based on upon the eternal struggle between good and evil. worth a look.
This was a very interesting movie, strange in parts but none the less something to get your imagination going.
Heath was great. As for Johnny Depp he was great as usual..
Might not become a classic but I enjoyed it anyway.
The idea was interesting.
Think I might have to watch it again. I will have to buy it for my Johnny Depp collection.
We felt this film was very poor on story and acting and turned it off half way through,as it was'nt getting any better.
Mmmh ... I was SO looking forward to seeing this (I love Terry Gilliam;s work), however I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It was very disjointed and just didn't seem to flow. However I did enjoy it, particularly from the odd character aspect and the magic caravan set. It was (as is usual for Terry Giliam) quite strange (which is good!) but it just let me down a little with the frenetic pace and somewhat disorganised filming. Certainly not a movie for everyone ... but if you like weird stuff, give it a go.
I loved the idea of this movie and thought they could have done it so much better but even so i enjoyed this movie. But i can understand those who didnt enjoy it. Its very strange sometimes.
I was quite disappointed. It was still interesting enough to watch to the end, but I found it to be a very disjointed storyline and in some parts just plain creepy!
I saw this in theatres when I was in England and
really loved it. I was very impressed with how they
explained the different actors standing in for Heath
The best fantasy film this year.
