I only watched it because Clive Owen is in it and I naively thought anything he is in would be at least OK. What a shocker of a movie!. It was 45 minutes into the movie before anything that mildly interested me happened - and Owen's character is reticent, grimy and pretty much uncommunicative in those 45 minutes. Poor script and storyline. It is not worth watching at all.
This is a shocker. Looks like a bad TV movie. Its based around a male rape and doesn't make any sense.
Good actors, bad script, dull directing.
Slow and grim, erratic and grimy, tough as all get-out with an odd (and to me, somewhat incomplete) ending. Still, worth a look for Clive Owen's brooding menace and Charlotte Rampling's despair. All the actors were good actually: so much so that most were extremely repellant, some with redeeming features. Realistic and depressing.
I naively watched this movie, taking a hit of Owen to feed my addiction, and in my eagerness to watch him I was unprepared for one graphic scene which I just cannot remove from my frontal lobe. I also found that in this movie some things were given away too easily, while others were (too) subjectively explained. The storyline did not do it for me at all.
An intriguing drama, with a slightly confusing story line about a crim who disappears for 3 years. After his brother is found dead in the bath, he decides to find out why. Clive Owen is good as the brooding loner and there are interesting supporting roles from Malcolm McDowell and Rhy Jones. Not how one would like to live life.
Slow to start but eventually moved a long at an okay pace, Clive Owen is great as he always is but I never did get to the bottom of the relationship between his character and a female, perhaps I missed that bit! Not bad, not a thriller either.
Basically a waste of talent and investment money in this. Where the story could have made at least something to work with as far as a movie entertainment goes this one was an absolute flop due to poor direction and editing.
Great stuff - love Clive Owen.
Subplots that lead nowhere. Flimsy storyline and very unappealing characters.
Terrible movie, one of the worst i have ever seen.
Not worth watching at all !!!
A bit of a sleeper in the british crime genre (pardon the pun). it's unfortunate that the film stock makes it look like a made for tv feature, which it is not. however, either you will appreciate the subtle ways the film reveals its secrets, or you will find it quite slow. perhaps only worth watching for Clive Owen's performance?
I really wanted to like this more, but it came to its conclusions and points quietly and without fanfare. both a plus and minus.
Clive Owen is really an excellent actor - good dark movie.
