Organized religion and faith sets the background for this story about a man named Aden (George Shannon) who escapes from the society he was accustomed to after his mother's death. He discovers the wonder and beauty of nature out in the wilderness along with a recluse named Marvel, who possess the power to talk to animals. When Aden returns to society along with Marvel, he realizes just how much he despises the civilized world. I Will Walk Like A Crazy Horse is another surreal film from Arrabal (Viva la Muerte), and is considered by many to be his best. Again, like it's predecessor, it has moments of tenderness and moments of extreme violence and cruelty, but it never seems out of place in the film, even though, considering the nature of the events taking place, it should. A trippy and at times, malicious picture, I Will Walk Like A Crazy Horse is a powerful film that may very well make you question your faith, your theology, and your fellow man.

Arrabal's film is designed to shock and there are many images and passages that purposefully try to confront public mores (rightly or wrongly). But yet there is a linear narrative of sorts (a man kills his mother, flees to the desert, and meets a strange shaman) and a few themes that carry weight (focused on the shaman who feels for the environment). Overall, this is a bit too forced and not on the level of Jodorowsky or Fellini or others who made art-house midnight movies at the time.
