In the same spirit of Park Chan Wook's Vengeance Trilogy but not up to their standard. The casts are good and storyline is quite intense but pretty sure feel a bit flat compared to the Park's Trilogy, especially in terms of cinematography style. Still quite good though but very violent movie.
Fo sheezy this movie was dope as all hell damn right mofos get this movie or else...
i believe this is another 'korean' title?! i have seen a few of these titles now, they are all extremely graphic, very violent (sexually) and rather bloodthirsty. Seems to be a 'trend' coming out of that country........ culture shock genre i call it ok watch if you're into that type of genre but not for the squeamish
This was a very good film even though its not in english, well worth watching.
Brilliant revenge action thriller is very much like a Koran Dirty Harry. I disagree sadly with Max as ok the others went faster to the punch line I saw the devil played it smarter showing the anti hero was human and simply wanted the guy to suffer as his victims did. Well acted and VERY violent but a treat for those who don’t mind subtitles and decent foreign action..
The East has very much an Old Testament - an eye for an eye - perspective of crime and punishment. If you do the crime, you do the time, uncompromisedly. Perhaps, this is due to the traditional Eastern Confucianist/Legalist traditions. The 'Vengeance Trilogy' of Park Chan Wook - 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance'; 'Oldboy'; 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' - exemplifies such Lex Talionis reciprocation superbly. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'Vengeance Trilogy'. 'I Saw the Devil' is an attempt to follow 'Vengeance Trilogy'. But I find it strangely unsatisfying. While 'Vengeance' are uncompromised; 'I Saw the Devil' feels compromised. The three 'Vengeance' films depict retribution without compunction. 'I Saw the Devil' is corrupted by Western political correctness sensibilities. The bad does what they do, but the good must be restrained, and 'hold back', in retribution. If the 'Vengeance Trilogy' is pure, bitter Eastern tea; 'I Saw the Devil' is tea with sugar and milk added. It's neither here nor there. The 'Vengeance Trilogy' is highly recommended: four stars. This tepid attempt of a follow-up, corrupted by Western sensibilities, is two stars.
Superb thriller, thought perhaps 20 minutes too long (the ending drags somewhat). Pretty graphic, so not for those who can't take gore.
a fairly decent movie with a vengefull plot and mainly entertaining aswell as having sub-titles that ya can keep up with..i give this a 5.5 outta 10
Brilliant!!!!! Great spin on the serial killer formula. Loved it.
This was a fantastic action thriller. The storyline was dramatic and the revenge warranted. With great acting, this is truly a superb foreign film.
Didn't like this one at all
