Based on the real-life experiences of Mende Nazer, the story unfolds as twelve-year-old Malia, daughter of champion wrestler Bah, is abducted from her Sudanese village in the Nubar Mountains by pro-government Arab militia and sold into slavery to a woman in Khartoum, who beats her for touching her daughter. After six years she is sent to London, where her name is changed, but her miserable life of servitude continues. Her passport is taken and she is told that her father will die if she goes to the authorities.

I enjoyed this movie.... But it could of been done much better. Very sad story... But the way it was filmed it didn't quite do the true story justice I don't believe. Either way... Worth watching. I'm sure the book would be much better!

Beautifully filmed and so terribly sad. This woman escaped only after loosing her childhood, how many live most of their lives in slavery - the supposed thousands in the UK alone is astounding. Now I want to read the book.

Was concerned that it would be dull and long winded, but I could not turn away from it and had to keep watching to see what would happen. Very good but you do need to be in right mood to sit and watch it.

Confronting to watch and also a bit disjointed. I think I would have preferred a linear story line. I got the gist of what happened but it was a bit hard to follow. Story and theme i would give 4 stars but the filmaking probably 2-3.

Very good movie showing how power is taken away bit by bit and leaving the person powerless. Based on real events even happening today. Scary!
