Best German Shepherd movie ever made, don't miss it !
The movie's title says it all. Strong performance by Will Smith (and his dog!). Eerie portrayal of America in the aftermath of a transmittable toxin, so strange seeing the usually bustling and energetic city left abandoned with the exeption of one man and a whole lot of mutants!! Yikes! Well worth the watch.
I really loved this movie, but I am a huge fan of Will Smith
we thought it an ok movie.
Very good movie but let down by inferior special effects when it comes to the infected. The scenes with Will Smith alone in the city are emotional and captivating but once the infected come on screen the quality of the film diminishes slightly. I still recommend it as good viewing and it's also worth checking out the extra alternate ending...
I really really like the first half of this movie. I think the second half is more formulaic than it needed to be.
The ending turns what could be an interesting movie into a disappointing waste of time
Just a great, post apocalyptic movie. I am not usually a big fan of Will Smith - but I think he does a stirling job pulling off effectively a one man movie (which is a difficult job). If you're a dog lover, just beware - there is a tough scene to get through. One of my favourites.
Mixed feelings about this film. Will Smith did his best , but the script didn't really deliver. Maybe I missed the point, but did they discover a cure for cancer and it went wrong or what?..because I didn't think it was very well explained.
Overall it was watchable, I liked the film production in general except for the over CGI 'd bits. However, It did have me asking a few questions, like how much of a time frame did he have to build the roller door/window barricades, and his lab & gear, or are we to presume that it was already installed and he always worked from home? How did tap into the energy grid or did he generate his power, was it all solar? ..etc. etc. One question begets another! In the end all his security was veneer thin if the mutants were able to storm through the roof and he had to resort to high voltage lighting, explode bombs, shoot. etc. How did the female and her son get to a safe destination carrying the antidote? I agree with other members a bit of weak ending.
End of the world, survival against all odds, Will Smith is great in movies, had to watch this movie and loved it. We would watch it again.
Definitely NOT scary.... I cried three times!!!! (The story line is very moving!!) ...
Pretty good plot and cinematography ok, special fx could have been 10x better though!
This movie bombed. Not even Will Smith could save it. It drags along for far too long, taking its own damn time building a small amout of connection with the focus character...and then at the last minute kills off the focus of the entire movie in a rather pointless way. Unsatisfying ending. Only 1 star because I can't give it a half.
I hated this movie. Saw it at the cinema and was disappointed it degenerated into a dumb zombie movie. At the end people in the cinema actually said out loud "you've gotta be kidding" type comments at the ending. Gee, it had so much promise. The first movie where I jumped off Smith's bandwagon...then I saw 20 mins of Hancock and jumped further off.
Lame. Instead, read the book and be surprised how they could take all the basic plot points, but then wimp out with the story line. Not dark, but dumb.
0ne star for the early scenes. Watch the superior Omega
I enjoyed this but the man
Not at all what I expected but I enjoyed it in the end.
VEry much enjoyed, better than the average movie these days
interesting movie, wouln't watch it again but
I loved this movie and have seen it numerous amounts of time and love watching it again even though i know what is going to happen. Will smith was a great actor in this movie showing great acting skills from each emotion you could think of and what it would actually do to a human being in solitude for such a long time. This movie is one of my favourites especially being excited, scared, sad, and having a good story line not like your normal zombie movies. You will like this movie if you want to see a good zombie movie.
Will Smith played his role very well considering he was by himself for most of the movie. Special effects were great. The story line kept me interested all the way to the end.
An absolute load of trash. A biggish budget does not equate to a good movie. Some grandeur in the cinematography. Less than mediocre acting. Awful directing. Yawn...so boring you'll be glad you can fast forward. All up be warned this is one of those blockbusters where the adverts and shorts are better than the actual movie.
I was on the edge of my seat for a few scenes but I couldn't help thinking throughout that the storyline was pretty similar to 28 Days Later.
Great action movie, well worth watching
Annoyingly predestrian revisit to The Omega Man. Doesn't create a real sense of isolation or menace. 2.5 stars
What mindless Hollywood rubbish.
watchable but not riveting. Good for a Sunday afternoon in front of the telly. Was a tad disappointed with the ending.
Not much chop!... abit over rated.. and boring.. nothing special...
I spent alot of time with the cover up shielding my eyes. I thought Will Smith did a great job with what he was given. I was just disappointed with the content of the movie , at the end i was left saying is that it ... what was the point?
Entertaining and well executed movie. Bittersweet ending.
Will Smith - arguably the finest black man on screen.
Sam the dog - briliant canine acting. Very empathetic.
Script (esp ending) - (gaggingly) dodgy.
Look, if you can forgive the American flag-waving and the obvious plot holes, this is an okay scary film. I'm pretty easily scared and it was certainly brown underpants time for me.
This film was never meant to be an intelligent look at a post-apocalypse US but it does its job just scaring weaklings like me.
Not for the kiddies but maybe a good 'date night' movie when you need a reason to get all girly and need protection from a big, strong man (thinking Will Smith here)
I am legend was a good movie but the quality of the DVD was poor
Great movie with original idea. Will Smith is fantastic and quite buff! Shame about Sam the dog, I think I cried! It was weird for me cos the main character has the same name as my brother "Robert Neville", probably more weird for him to watch tho!
The first half of this movie is first rate. Will Smith is Robert Neville, immune to a virus that has devastated the world, an entirely plausible concept given the recent swine flu epidemic. Neville has almost completely cracked under the terrible burden of loneliness, his only companion a dog named Sam. The scenes of an empty and silent New York pack as much a punch as the empty London scenes in 28 Days Later. However once the laughable CGI 'Infected' pop up the movie falls apart. Why they didn't use real humans in makeup amazes me. CGI isn't frighting at all. Then they go and tack on a ridiculous fantasy ending. Awful. A movie of two halfs really.
This is like a computer game in a movie with some fine special effects and a good dose of suspense. Will Smith plays a great role and if you like the apocolytpic genre, this won't disappoint. The only down side is the usual American schmaltz - woman turns up, woman makes breakfast for hungry man, complete with perfect table setting - and the final scene is more Little House on the Prairie than a thriller, but the good bits outweigh the bad.
Agree with Peter F....Will Smith was absolutely amazing in this movie. It's not often that I am on the edge of my seat for a whole movie like I was with this one.
Love Will Smith, the movie a little boring. The mutants didn't cut the mustard for me.
*Awesome special effects. Astonishing scenaries. 5*
*Will smith is good. 4^*
*Original idea for a story, but not efficiently converted into frames. 2*
*I didn't know that this was a horror movie. I found it very scary and was jumping up and down on the sofa. Almost had nightmares 2*? (depends on likings)
Yawn! Effects are good, but so what, we're used to that by now. But this film falls deeply into the usual trap of all the budget spent on effects and not on scripting. Will Smith overacts and fills time with some past roles. And if there was one more shot of the howling, wide mouthed villain I was going to scream. Why do American's continually need to smash something when they get angry?
Absolutely fantastic, Will Smith does it again
Great acting but I must admit I didn't really enjoy it much.
Enjoyed the first half hour-the eerie deserted NY scenes were fantastic. It lost me a bit from there but overall I enjoyed it. Smith and the dog were very good.
A all right movie, a bit weird, but still good.
Good movie that explores a fascinating concept of being the last man on earth trying to restore humanity, special effects a bit over the top at times especially the infected dogs but enjoyed it.
Very impressive. A skillfully created production incorporating many elements not found in similar big-budget screen sensations. Though the ending leaves a little be desired, still a highly recommended and entertaining movie.
you need to have an open mind with this film, it is interesting but you also need to concentrate otherwise you can lose the plot ....
Another great movie of Will Smiths!! Absolutely loved this movie, so realistic, even made me cry. Recommend this movie.
The trailer promised a good movie, but it was a bit of a let down. While the special effects were okay and Will Smith turn in a decent performance, but his greatest competition was his dog.
I genuinely liked the movie but it sort of went back in time and then present day time. But in all a very good movie
Good acting by Will Smith.
Love this movie, just don't go to a video shop after seeing it. Will Smith is amasing the way he holds the movie up by himself through nearly the whole movie.
Excellent movie until the very end, where you're left with the feeling that it was finished off in a hurry. A testament to Will Smith's acting ability when, for the most part, he is the only character with dialogue.
3 stars but only just. Starts as an almost direct rip of Omega man but makes its own way towards the end. Will Smith is good enough to carry this film but I was let down by some of the CGI which was, I believe, below par and unrealistic. We've come 15 plus years since Jurassic park but they did CGI better back then it seems.
This thing stank out our DVD player, boring, predictable, absolute rubbish "special effects". The best bit came at the end, when it ended!!
I rented it because of Will Smith not knowing what it was about and I loved it. If you love creapy than this is for you. Will did a great job of freaking me out.
This seemed like a long movie but I enjoyed it very much..loved the half dead people, finally zombies that actually move, and oy do they move.Terrific all round
Really enjoyed this movie. Will Smith made this movie, considering he the only person you see for the whole movie (except for the dog and the deer), oh and the mutants. The flashbacks were good to see how things got the way they were, but like what other people have said, a disappointing ending.
Quite interesting. Will Smith is not one of my favourite actors but he's very good in this. A very sad movie. Better than average.
A great movie, although there's way too much product placement.
I'd heard a few negative things about this movie. Having seen it, I can't really unmderstand why as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Will mate what happen to you? why did you sign up for this shit!! Boring NEEEXT....
After reading Rob Matheson's novel, "I am Legend", I was disappointed with this movie. Although Will Smith brings a poignant determination to the character of Richard Neville, the movie lacks credibility. This is largely due to the 100% digital zombie-like "infected" creatures, who zero believability. For a high budget Hollywood feature, I think more effort could have been invested in the portrayal of the enemy.
I had waited so long to see this and had thought i would be blown away as it's the genre i love most. I was so dissapointed. Worth a watch but that's it. Will Smith always great - but the effects and visuals i found very ordinary...like watching an xbox game. Didn't buy into any of it.
loved Will Smith, shows he can take on any roll & do a gr8t job. not happy about the poor dog, i thought the vaccine would've worked. over all i enjoyed the movie. worth watching.
This was a great story and I really enjoyed the movie but just felt a bit let down at the end.
Will Smith was brilliant in this movie!
The suspense was great and kept me on the edge of my seat. Only let down was the ususal "America saves the World" theme but other than that it was fantastic!
I think that Will Smith is not a first rate actor. He is trying hard in this movie, but at times he goes into the realms of over-acting. The film itself is also disapointing. How could such an obviously big budget movie have such an abrupt daft ending? If almost all the population died, where are the bodies? If they became millions of mutants where were they all? How come all the abandoned cars were parked neatly along the sidewalks? If everyone was dead, who was working the power plant to provide electricity? How did the the little hispanic women with the little boy get through the mutants and into the SRV. How did she know how to clean and stitch up a knife wound? If Will was unconcious did she carry him up the stairs to his apartment? The cheesy islands of domesticity and talk about the efficacy of the pseudo-philosophy of reggae singers got to me. But it gave me a clue to the level of intelligence the movie was aimed at. Please also include the tripe that the destrution was all part of God's plan. Even WIll was angry about that one. The Mutants were one dimensional. They had no weapons. They could only come out at night. If you are going to fantisise about terror it must be, one would think, more awful than you could experience in reality.
But take a famous real conflict in a city, like the battle of Stalingrad, for example. The opponents there were clever resourceful adversaries who were extremely adaptable and resourceful. They could fight night or day and had a 100 ways to kill you. There weren't any dogs or animals from the Zoo, people had to eat them. What all the footage of the dog was about I could not say and a lot of film was wasted in chasing deer about. Why not build a hide and shoot one from a sniper position? If you were the only inhabitant it wouldn't be deer that you would be worrying about. The rats and cockroaches that infest New York now after being combated daily by an army of pest exterminators, would, as we say in Australia, be coming out of the woodwork. As for the little vignette at the end with the little picture post card town surrounding the little church - a plea to film makers from now on----please DONT!
good movie but not what i was expecting
This is a visually confronting movie. The story was implausable. We were expected to believe that a virus mutates the human species into a completely new species which hates us for some reason. There is plenty of deer to chase and eat but Will Smith is the single target for the mutant species. Other than that, the movie does explore the possibility of an overgrown New York and a very buff Will Smith to strut his stuff in it.
Wasn't expecting too much of this movie, but I loved it. Some real raw emotions came out in this movie - loved the interaction with the dog. Great movie - give it a go.
What you saw on trailers you will see in the movie. Nothing much. Will's oneman show again.
Yet another Will Smith vehicle - a cross between 'The Omega Man' and 'Shaun of the Dead' - piffling rubbish - Smith can't act - he now goes on my (not to bother to) watch list. As much garbage as 'I, Robot' - 1 star for the road 'make-up' at the beginning
Better than I thought as it's not the rip off of 28 Days I was expecting. Sums up the human condition removed from society, even the infected showed signs of needing to cling to human habits.
Definitely not as great as the hype.
It drags you in loses you then drags you back in. Interesting, a few scary moments but not the jump out of your seat stuff. Will smith as usual does an excellent job as well as his offsider. Make sure you can give this movie all your attention you will get more out of it that way. Watch it when there is no one else around and then you can get lost in the whole plot. I recommend it for the opened minded.
This remake of Omega Man did not have the atmosphere of the original, obviously a Will Smith vehicle more than story line. Not a lot happens in the movie, just drawn out and there was not enough focus on the muties, hence my Will Smith vehicle comment. OK movie, but happy I did not waste $15 at the movies on it.
Smith was great but I have seen him in more challenging roles. Wasn't a great storyline but some good special effects
It was ok. The dog was the best part.
Like watching the Omega man after all the talent and action and logic have been drained away.
A poor remake of The Omega Man, with the late Charlton Heston (aka original planet of the apes guy for those who don't know him). Includes the "The Omega Man"
light sensitive zombies etc but this time it is the U.S of A that savest he world (see the flag in the last schenes flapping like there is no other country other than "them") , interestingly the scentist responsible for the plaque is British, in The Omega Man it was the US sceintists/military that cause the plague, what should we read into this ? At least the The Omega Man it was a religious parable right up to the almost crusifiction ending, here it is a US saves US. Frankly in the circumstances one could be forgiven for wating to go down with the rest of humanity rather than endure.
My advice get the The Omega Man an watch that instead.
Booooring! I am sure many would have not finished watching it if not for Will Smith in it. He plays not only the main role but almost the only role!
Pretty good story,Will Smith good, the dog even better(he didn't need to die). Bit of a weak ending, but mostly quite enjoyable.
This movie promised so much and delivered so little. Will Smith must have been a bit short of cash when he made this, because it was very ordinary
I expected quite a bit more out of this movie so I was ultimately disappointed with the whole unexpected zombie storyline. Will Smith is fine int he lead but he's a bit reckless for a bloke that seems so organised.
Having seen The Omega Man (Charlton Heston) I was interested to see the remake. I thought Will Smith did an outstanding job in portraying someone who thought he was the last human survivor. Whilst the special effects were a bit dodgy at times, the story itself was quite rivetting. I found the ending a little disappointing, albeit predictable. All in all a worthwhile movie to watch which will keep you entertained from start to finish (not too long either - only 90 mins).
Boring - could have been better. I prefered Cloverfield!!!
"I am shit-scared!" should be the title. This freaked the hell out of me. Fantastic though. If I ever turned rabid monster munchin, Will Smith would be the man to save me!
When I put this movie on our list I thought it would be mediocre but we were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. It kept us interested the whole way through which is rare in most movies these days. Well worth a try I reckon!
This was much slower than I expected and void of explanation for most of what was happening. It was like the Director thought, OK everyone knows its about a man on his own, so lets not bother with the details. It missed some really kick-ass action scenes, I expected a lot more from this film, the ending was unnecessary. There just wasn't enough happening, enough said.
Awesome story set up to deliver the worst ending ever! It's like them ran out of budget or forgot that the story needed an ending. Excellent effects and potential.......
One of my fave movies. I am a fan of "The Omega Man" so i was excited to see a big budget hollywood remake of Richard Matheson's book of the same name. I also love post-apocalyptic tales, and knowing it featured Will Smith I knew I was in for a treat. I was not disappointed! Thought provoking, saddening, this movie stays with you long after you view it. Not to be missed, especially by the scientists of our world??!!
Excellent action movie, first half builds the tension and then the second half explodes, only thing wrong with this movie is that is was not long enough, you just get sucked into this movie and then it finishes. Great.
not as good as i thought it was going to be
Excellent movie, even if the ending is a little M Night Shyamalan-ish. Will Smith turns in an amazing performance. Scary and heart-wrenching stuff.
mmm yeah quite a good movie the ending is a bit dissapointing though.
Worth Watching - Not as exciting as watching the trailer.
A well enough made, if slightly over-rought version of this tale, not unlike 28 Days.
I agree with David boring as bat @#!%. If you look at it, it is the same old same old, Virus takes over, last survivor, Zombies. The best part is the sudden end to Will. What a dupe. And to think I liked all of Will's work, His work was good in the whole just the script. ZZZZZZZZZZZ
I really enjoyed this movie but the second half was nowhere near as good as the first. A fine sci-fi action film that has more than its share of great effects and Will Smith is more than credible as the lone survivor of a post apocalyptic world.
The initial visual effects provides for such a gripping background and atmosphere that the remainder of this film may have been doomed to be a bit of a let down. Sometimes it is all about the anticipation and the mystery. That is not entirely the case here. For me the film delivers all the way through, although the second half could not sustain the excitement of the first and the realism is somewhat lost once you have a chance to sit back and contemplate some of the larger credibility gaps in the plot. Nonetheless, this is a terrific movie. The effects are second to none and Will Smith provides another thrilling performance (but we would expect no less – he seldom disappoints).
I Am Legend is a remake. It has two predecessors: The Last Man on Earth (1964) starring Vincent Price and The Omega Man (1971) starring Charlton Heston. Whilst I have seen neither I imagine they were very different films. When one thinks about it, the degree of “reality” made possible by CGI has really changed our expectations of movies altogether. We are rapidly getting to the stage where effects, even those as startling and realistic as in I Am Legend will no longer impress us. We will have come to expect that anything is possible on film. This is not a bad thing as it will demand more from moviemakers in terms of story.
About as exciting as watching grass grow. Seen the Trailer seen the Movie. Boooooring
Will Smith must get an Oscar nomination for this..a must see movie..bit predictable..American saves the world action is very different to Omega Man which spawned this movie..go see and enjoy the cinematography and grieve for Smiths dog.
