It was a bit silly in places, but entertaining for a lightweight movie. The new fashion for not looking anyone in the eyes while talking gets irritating but the wonderful Maggie Gyllengal doesn't do this. It's worth watching for her - she's brilliant!
Although based on a 'true' story, this is pretty ordinary. Despite the unusual medical procedures of the day, it's really just a light piece of rom-com. The movie's dramatic arc is obvious from the get-go, as is the trajectory of pretty much every character, and the whole movie is peopled with stereotypes. Ho hum
A must watch! Great movie, great plot, great acting, very well done. I like the way they work the social and historical aspects (women's rights, women being demonized and called hysterics for showing their feelings, hysteria as a diagnosis, poverty, human rights, etc) and still maintaining a lightness and joy in the movie. Some very funny parts as well.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending, they really didn't need to make it just another romantic comedy...
This was literally hysterical and a good laugh. The subject matter was also funny, good actors and well worth a watch.
Enjoyed this movie very much. Had to feel sorry for women in that era, thank god its not like that now!! Worth watching
I did enjoy this movie, interesting to see what women had to suffer through during this period. The acting was excellent with all the characters being likeable and believable. Worth watching.
A very funny film about a doctor satisfying his female clients in a very intimate way.
Very very good. Thoroughly recommend it
Absolutely loved this movie. Don't let the 'plot' put you off, it is a great movie with great cast (always love Robert Everett) and it is so 'tastefully' done, much more than your usual romantic comedy and you can't help but smile that it is in fact a true story! ! ! !
Pretty amusing & very watchable movie (especially as it stars the incredibly beautiful Felicity Jones...the new Bardot!?) based on a true story of how, due to his specific circumstances, a doctor stumbled onto the invention of the vibrator. Historically eye opening! 3 1/2 stars really but 4 rather than 3
I enjoyed this one and laughed a lot. Good acting.
Interesting movie,a few subplots gave it some depth , humerous at times ,recommended .
A little melodramatic this offering relies on the shock value of the totally outrageous practice it explores.OK but a little OTT
So entertaining ! Dont let the subject matter put you off.
Even if the kids wander in they won't get what's happening , very discreet !
Please watch this DVD you will love it !
Hillarious!!!!! Great interesting story I loved it
fun to watch, especially Rupert Everett's character was great.
Its an easy movie to watch not everyone knows exactly what its about when hiring but try it u wont b let down and u'll enjoy the laughs
my brother watched this on the plane from WA and told me to watchit as it was quite good... well im so glad i did, it was a really good story, funny and very educational... loved it
Had no idea what this movie was about but was pleasantly surprised, thoroughly
enjoyed it. Funny, romantic and quite educational.
The rather coy depictions of hysteria treatment wouldn't have been enough to sustain this movie. Fortunately there is a lot more to it, including the sickness, sexism and poverty of Victorian life and those with the fortitude to try and do something about them. And it's a nice love story as well, albeit totally predictable from early in the movie.
Take 2 D-Cell batteries then call me in the morning. Great movie.
The evolution of vibrators! Love it :)
fantastic movie- hilarious!
