You would immediately want to classify this as a "chick flick" when you see the cover and read the back. However, with Forrest Whittaker's brilliant directing, cinematography and a soundtrack that he co-produced, this movie is much more than that. As a comedy/drama/romance, it certainly delivers in all 3 genres. Sandra Bullock delivers a performance which beautifully balances grit and humour. Gena Rowlands is sensational as the mother and plays a key role in making this movie so believable and real. But my hat goes off to little Mae Whitman, the daughter. A super-star in the making! Harry Connick Jr. is perfect as the country boy who makes life seem so simple and uncomplicated. A brillian piece of work by Forrest Whittaker.

Movie worth watching, but it seems to have lost something over time, not as good as I remember it.

Let me put it this way. After seeing the film and I went and bought the soundtrack, you fill in the blanks.

Very slow moving, a more serious role for Sandra Bulloch as jilted mother, who leaves the city for her family home in the country with a reluctant daughter. Just a 3 as a real effort to stay interested to the end.
