After bad bouts of man trouble just before the holidays, Amanda Woods (Diaz) and Iris Simpkins (Winslet) are desperate for a change of scene. Traveling in opposite directions (Diaz to London, Winslet to Los Angeles), each finds herself alone in an unfamiliar town, but neither remains a stranger in her new surroundings for long. A ponderous film that is about 20-30 minutes too long. The long conversation scenes between the two pairs of protagonists are arduous and, at times, uncomfortable. Kate Winslet is excellent while Cameron Diaz does a passable impression of Paris Hilton. The chemistry between the pairs, Law/Diaz and Black/Winslet just does not exist. The best aspect of the film is the relationship between Winslet's character and the old Hollywood screenwriter (Wallach).
Overall, this is a film which women will probably enjoy but overall there are only a few laughs to be had and a lot of sitting through lengthy, and mundane, conversations that seem to belond more in high school than the adult world.

But the cast was great, the locations perfect, the music fantastic and the script solid if predictable.

Very disappointing and the only redeeming feature were the times Jude Law was centre screen and only from an aesthetic veiwpoint .
