Joe Dante, the director of GREMLINS, takes you on a thrilling adventure down into the depths of THE HOLE. After moving into a new neighborhood, brothers Dane (Christopher Massoglia) and Lucas (Nathan Gamble) and their neighbor Julie (Hayley Bennett) discover a bottomless hole in the basement of their home. They find that once the hole is exposed, evil is unleashed. With strange shadows lurking around every corner and nightmares coming to life, they are forced to come face to face with their darkest fears to put an end to the mystery of THE HOLE.

Helmed by maverick director Joe Dante, The Hole should have been more than this. The movie kicks off very well, and builds the tension quite effectively, but halfway through, it falls appart. As the secret of the titular hole starts to reveal itself, the movie starts to lose steam, you'll see through it immediately and start thinking "that can't be it, there's got to be twist somewhere". Sadly, there isn't, the secret is as pedestrian as it appears.
By the end, Dante is channeling his younger self from his insane, yet brilliant segment from the "The Twilight Zone", but much less effectively this time around.
As much as I have enjoyed Dante's work over the years, I cannot recommend The Hole.

I think the other reviews were a bit harsh? While it certainly was not as good as it looked to be in the promos; it was OK to watch - 6/10.
