Prepare to travel beyond dreams and nightmares, into the realm of darkness and the furnaces of hell as imagined by celebrated maestro of the macabre Clive Barker. When journeyman Frank (Sean Chapman) purchases a mysterious Chinese puzzle box while visiting an exotic country he returns home to England and unwittingly unlocks a door to hell, dragged into a frightening dimension whose evil inhabitants, known as Cenobites, test his appetite for pleasure and tolerance for pain – literally tearing him apart in the process. Escaping his sado-masochistic hell, Frank returns to his old household and begins an insidious resurrection that will not only draw the life and soul of everyone around him but open a portal for Pinhead (Doug Bradley) and his infernal Cenobites to wreak bloody havoc on an unsuspecting world.

The actual feature of the disk had no sound. The menu had sound, and the special features had sound, but not the actual -movie-. Which was vexing.

This is so bad "the performance from the Father is woeful", I am going to see if Hellraiser 2 - Hellbound is any better, we can only wait and see.

My teenage boys said this was ok but they wouldn't bother watching it again or the sequel.

I am a huge horror fan and yet somehow the Hellraiser films eluded me over the years. When I finally caught up with this one, I was disappointed. There are some nice effects, but overall the result is dreary and uninteresting.

Still tearing souls apart twenty years later. This film is a classic example of why horror works best when it is subtle, and why horror characters should never mistake themselves for comedians.

This is a classic horror flick that revolts but doesn't let you look away.

A ground breaking film. Clive Barkers master piece. If you only see one horror film this year (but why would you?) see this one. Delivers on the scares and also entertaining story. Has some sex and very kinky moments. This is the film that crosses pain and pleasure. Its sickening in some parts and also very beautiful in others. A cult film, by a cult writer and film maker.
