Very creative piece of film making. Excellent music and songs. Must have been great on the big screen with so much visual impact. Not all will enjoy it (my other half went to bed 20 minutes in). I thinks its a hit for the Rock movie lovers!
A great movie. Although is a bit of an aquired taste good for people who like films like Velvet Goldmine or similar movies.
I love the songs, and the leading man's voice is incredible. Alos interestingly presented with the drawings, and theme of "spooning'
A bright, colourful, quirky movie.
A quirky movie where it's easy to miss some of the verbal and sight humour on the first watch. Hang on to it for a couple of days then watch it again.
An excellent rock musical. Also a bit of a sad life story interwoven with the great and enjoyable, yet unknown songs. Pity that the story is so obviously fake. There are quirky animations accompanying some songs and other weird distractions with others. It's all quite entertaining and whether it fits the story or not hardly matters.
An old favourite, witty humour and entertaining story telling. Good music and singing, great acting.
Quirky and entertaining. Lots of great music but definitely not your typical musical.
Energetic and entertaining look at identity in our loss of innocence age. The songs (which aren't half bad) drive the whole thing along. 3.5 stars
This is not quite the dumbest film I have ever had the misfortune to see, the dumbest being Puma Man.
It's like a David Bowie/70s/fantasy. If you loved Bowie's music the soundtrack is the same lyrical journey with a story. I really enjoyed hedwig's warped little world.
A film of enormous wit and awareness. A brilliant movie from the writer, star and director John Cameron-Mitchell. Oh, and such fantastic songs. So funny and so touching. A must see (for grown ups with a gown up world view I think).
The phrase "A modern day Rocky Horror" may be a stretch, as far as iconic and cult status goes. But this film is not far off. While rooted in the gay/transgender culture this film has an underlying theme that is universal. Follow Hedwig on a journey of loss, love and ultimately life, and you will not regret it.
OK..... not the typical Musical!
Once you get past the initial shock, this film is endearing and has heart.
And actually strong songs.
Great music, bit wierd storyline, different.
The rock musical returns. Raunching, rolicking, daring. And the music ain't bad either. For the trannie in all of us.
This racuous and original "rock opera" may not be for all tastes but if you are into glam rock and quirky comedy then check this out! Hedwig may be a little over self-indulgent but this film is a triumph for writer/director JOHN Cameron Mitchell and the songs are great!
