ADULT THEMES, LOW LEVEL VIOLENCE

Director: Scott Hicks
Actors: Anthony Hopkins, David Morse, Mika Boorem, Hope Davis, Anton Yelchin

From Scott Hicks, the acclaimed director of 'Shine' & 'Snow Falling on Cedars'; and William Goldman, the award winning writer of 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' & 'All The President's Men', comes a film of aching beauty and raw emotional power... Bobby Garfield is a man haunted by thoughts of his childhood and these memories take him back to the day a mysterious stranger walked into his life and changed it forever.

It is 1960 and 11 year old Bobby lives with his widowed mother. One day, Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins) moves in upstairs. Slowly, the two begin to trust and depend on each other - Bobby has finally found the father he never had.

But Ted holds a secret that no-one can know - he possesses strange powers beyond comprehension - and Bobby can sense the impending danger that surrounds this kind, gentle old man. Even more mysterious, Bobby is beginning to show signs that he possesses special powers of his own.

Was it just an accident that Ted Brautigan moved in upstairs? Or did fate draw them together?

"Sometimes when you're young, you have moments of such happiness, you think you're living in someplace magical, like Atlantis must have been... then we grow up and our hearts break in two."

This was certainly a weird one (but in a good way). Great acting from the little boy. Anthony Hopkins, as always, was terrific. Loved all the music of the '60s in this as well. Sang along with them all!!

I always love Anthony Hopkins and he was great but the storyline seemed to be lacking. Perhaps I'll have to read the book to get the gist of things.

A lover of Anthony Hopkins, this film only adds to the intrigue and depth of him as an actor. Good all round movie with an interesting feel good factor. Curious yet heartwarming. I knew nothing, expected nothing and would happily watch it again. Struggles of a single mum bringing up a child in 50/60's is well portrayed and the curiosity of the innocent is painful to be reminded of. Definitely one to watch

An unusual & gentle story. Anthony Hopkins beautifully underplayed as usual - what a great actor. The young boy shows promise.

Not a bad movie for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Anthony Hopkins seems to just waltz through the role with the supporting cast as more-than-worthy partners.

Excellent movie for those who haven't read the book. A shame for those who have as it only covers 1/3 of the story, and hence necessitates a changed ending. Still a great story all in all.
