Fantastic as a family film, but lacking in the more interesting and darker tones of the later films. Still, enjoyable.
i cant beleive i waited 10 years to watch this film and have to admit now i have seen 5 maybe 6 of the movies now, with tha 2nd & 3rd still to be watched,i am officially a harry potter geek...loved this movie and looking forward to tha chamber of secrets...9.5 outta 10 is my rating
I saw this film when it was first released on DVD and now again on Blu-ray. I was hoping I'd like it more with eight years' perspective, but instead I hate it even more. It's really not terrible, but it is dull, uninvolving, unimaginative and pedestrian. It's ironic that, despite the characters being perpetually in a state of awe at the world around them, the film itself feels so joyless.
This was the American version. For some reason they don't use the word Philosopher. Still great movie. The yanks should except the movie as it is and not change anything.
I loved the movie, but the blu ray transfer was mediocre. I have the film on the original DVD purchased when it was released many years ago, and was excited to see it come out on Blu Ray, but was disappointed with the transfer. Only buy/rent this if you don't have the original DVD in your collection.
I've seen Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the cinema when it was released, and now again on Blu-Ray. I may insult fans of the series, but I think it's a fairly mediocre film unless you're all into the books and just need to see them on the big screen. There's heaps of things the characters choose to do in this film that makes no sense at all, but probably does if you've read the book. So as a film it doesn't stand on its own. Quite a ho-hum experience.
