Set in modern-day Britain, Harry Brown follows one man's (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and her partner (Charlie Creed-Miles).

This is a really good movie. It has that undercurrent of suspense all the way through.

Old age pensioner living in a housing estate decides to take the law in his own hands after the death of his mate. A sort of Dirty Harry for the elderly who live in fear of out of control youth. 3.5 stars

Gritty thriller set in dismal english urban environment. I can only hope that the council housing estate environment portrayed is exaggerated fiction, not reality.

Brilliant but dark Michael Caine film. Much more graphic than I expected and certainly not a feel good movie. Comparisons to Gran Turino are valid, but this is much more grim and the hoods are much more menacing. However, I was focused on the screen the whole time as Mr Caine and all the actors kept me mesmerised.

Dubbed as Englands' Grand Torino, convincingly played by Caine. More earthy than the superb Eastwood movie. Very feasible story-line. Scary & very watchable

Michael Caine is one of the best actors and he could turn the worst dialogues in real performances. The storyline is previsible and some of the dialogues are pretty poor however the actors including Caine gives their best saving the whole movie. It could have been a very plain vigilante flick with quite a lot of cliches in the characters and action. Alone Michael Caine's performance is a 4 stars and I don't understand how an actor of this caliber plays in such little movies. Anyway worth a watch.

Michael Caine stars in this edgy film UK film reminiscent of Children of Men in its cinematography and editing. This is not a typical vigilante storyline, and it is developed well with some unexpected turns. In some respects, the content is quite terrifying as it is presented in a very earthy way, thereby making it believable. While it won't become a classic in years to come, it is a film worth watching. Caine's performance is very good, and he carries the bulk of the film as his character ventures into the seedy world of drugs and guns on a quest to restore 'justice' and safety in his neighbourhood.

You know it is a good film where for the first hour nothing happens, but you are sitting at the edge of your chair, waiting... Harry Brown is this type of film and Caine is his brilliant self in it. Suspenseful, gritty and realistic portrayals from all the actors.

Gripping but hard to watch at times. Brilliant performance by Michael Caine. Without him the film would have suffered. A true blue revenge movie. I thought I was watching The Bill.

Bleak and confronting, but the portrayal of life on the British housing estates is true to life. Great movie about modern British life.

Great film almost until the end. Then totally let down by a ridiculous last few frames. Sunshine has no place in what could have been a nihilistic masterpiece.

Confronting is how I'd describe Harry Brown. Ironic considering the recent riots in London right now! I wasn't sure if I actually liked (you can't enjoy it) this film. It certainly had me mesmerised until the final moments. Certainily worth a look but not for kids!

We thought it was a great movie and we have seen it three times. Michael Caine seems to be getting better with age, he is no longer the Cockney Git. The movie didn't have a convoluted plot just straight up entertainment and the good guys won. Yahoo. Jeff

Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer shine in this dark film where Caine plays a man who has led a subdued existence since his marriage but with the death of his wife and the murder of his friend he has nothing more to lose. Beautifully shot with bleak colours shot through with yellow and green tones in the haunting, sinister bits. It did feel a bit like the Jasmine Allen estate for those fans of The Bill, but the plot was well handled and developed. It would have been better had it ended without the obligatory 'everything's fine now' scene at the end.

I know it was 'realistic' but there was FAR TOO MUCH swearing for my liking. Caine was brilliant though. Also this movie had the worst sound quality I have seen in 10 years. My sound setting goes up to 16 on the DVD player, and the poor quality had me constantly changing to settings from as low as 6 to as high as 16 (and at times I had to turn the TV to boost the sound even more).... Shocking shocking shocking!!! Thumbs down. If you must add it to your queue, make sure you stick it at the bottom of the heap.

Kind of like Gran Torino but in a London housing estate. In no way a feel good movie and at times it can be overblown but powerful viewing non the less. A strong performance by Caine helps immensely.

Michael Caine movies are always good value. This one exceptional. Pensioner Harry Brown is a widower, ex-marine, dying from lung disease. When his best friend is killed by drug dealers he uses his army skills to overcome his physical weakness and extract revenge along the chain of command. Many violent scenes that catch you by surprise. Violent, unpredictable, well crafted. Worth renting.

A low budget film that relies heavily on the superior acting talents of an aging Michael Caine. It is however intiguing enough a story line and with Caine's character to make good watching.

Enjoyed this, but some parts I had to look away because of the violence. My husband handled it better than me!! A view of the darker part of society that we all know exists, but thankfully don't get the opportunity to experience. I'm sure there are some places that would welcome a character like Harry Brown.

An elderly ex-serviceman and widower looks to avenge his best friend's murder by doling out his own form of justice. For 3/4 of this movie I really enjoyed it until it started to become a second rate Death Wish. I didnt like Michael Caine in this role at all. Very wooden performance from Sir Michael

Harry Brown starts off SO well. It builds the tension nicely and sets up a great storyline. Then all of a sudden it just goes wrong. This is very dark stuff indeed. Dark, sadistic and cruel actually. By the end I didn't want to know. It's a pity because Michael Caine is, as ever, brilliant. Only watch if you're in a very bright and sunny mood:)

Some say it's the English Grand Torino, more akin to Jodie Fosters 'Brave One' in my book. Gritty and depressingly real. If you are a fan of Trainspotting, Tarrantio etc get this, you won't be disappointed. If confronting the worst side of British society on your sofa doesn't sound like a good evening in get Grand Torrino instead.

Harry Brown has nothing left to lose and is fed up with the violence in his neighbourhood so he takes the law into his own hands. This is an extremely confronting movie, very violent and brutal.

A good story, but we were disappointed in the telling of it. Caine was good, but lately British films look like they are made cheaply, the sound quality was terrible.
