A lovely story but not a lot of depth to the film itself. As a dog lover, I found the story deeply moving and hard to bear at times. I think the wife could have been played with a little less dourness.
Such a lovely story ans so sad
Lovely movie to watch. But gosh if you can make it through without weeping you did better than me! If you are a dog person, its a must see
I enjoyed this movie even though I found it very sad.
A lovely, moving movie. Enjoyed thoroughly.
My grand children and I loved the movie
Loved this movie,so glad to find out about this story,a must for dog lovers, Richard Gere was probably not the right person for this movie as it was a Japanese story, but he did well to show the emotional side of things. The dogs were great actors too!
My whole family loved this movie. Being that it was based on some true events, I would have loved to have seen the movie done in Japan & based more to the true story.
Make sure you have abox of tissues......
The dog saved the movie for me. Animal lovers may enjoy but 'b' grade for me
A simple story, but sad. Enjoyed by the whole family.
Wonderful movie box of tissues a must. Richard Gere great & the dogs are fantastic.
This is one of the most painful, beautiful and heartbreaking animal stories on film. It is a very similar story to another deeply moving true story, "Grey Friar's Bobby" (the Scottish dog from Edinburgh, who would not leave his master's resting place), so it did not come as a surprise to me when it took the turns it did. But it is a howler - no pun intended! Dog lovers will be in absolute tears with this one, and although it was extraordinarily beautiful and moving and heartwarming, the heartbreak I felt watching this one will keep me from watching it again any time soon. It just cuts me up and I won't be watching it again in this decade. Definitely worth watching at least once, but be prepared for tears!!
For anyone who loves dogs this is a breath-catchingly emotional movie. A massive reminder of what love and loyalty mean, in this case to Hachi.
Saddest movie I've seen in a very long time. What I thought was amazingly well done was the fact that Richard Gere never used a collar and lead on the dog. This made it seem like the the two were friends/companions rather than dog and master/owner.
Gentle and nice but typical of an American version of a story borrowed from another country. As usual, the translation didn't work particularly well.
Definitely need the tissues handy, beautiful dog, he was the true star of the movie, Richard Gere wasn't bad either.
very sad but nice movie, Richard Gere was great.
Showed the true meaning of " Man's Best Friend " wonderful movie & i love Richard Gere
A heart warming story a tear jerker
great movie heart wearming and enjoyable for the whole family
Very sad movie. Good movie if you want a good cry Have a box of tissues handy. Good movie.. Great movie for dog lovers. . I like Richard Gere too.
This was a beautiful movie, based on a true story in Japan. Very enjoyable 10/10
Being a lover of all things Akita, I had heard of the true story of Hachi years ago. When I heard there was going to be an American version of the tale I was horrified, thinking hollywood would butcher it, but I found they did a pretty good job. Yes, if you have any heart, you will cry but it is an awesome movie not to be missed.
I have never cried so much in a movie, cried more than a love story and notebook put together. Very touching tale... have a box of tissues next to you when you watch it. Great movie
OMG! Get the kleenex out! I've never cried so much in a movie. Just beautiful and the fact that it's true enhances it. Well done.
A lovely movie. Keep the tissues handy.
Was such a beautiful moving movie....i normally try to cry silently in these sort of movies but this time i just had to let it all go and sob my heart out....even had hubby in a few tears.
Would recomend this movie to ANYONE was such a beautiful story about love
Bitter sweet story. Absolutely loving it.
A true story that has not only touched my heart deeply, but will stay in there forever. Hachi continues to live on.
Loved Hachi. If you are an animal lover you will want to see this movie. Make sure you have plenty of tissues.
Grab the tissues and boxes of them! What a beautiful, heart-wrenching story and to think it actually happened!!! A story that will stay with me forever.
What a beaufiful story about the bond between man and animal. I cried for the dog,his faithfulness to his master was wonderful. We could all learn something from this story.
An excellent and most unforgettable tale of companionship and loyalty.
i liked free willy i cried at the end
Great movie. Old fashioned tear jerker
just the BEST movie i have seen for a long time..no sex, drugs or violence
the dog
Can't believe this wonderful movie slipped through with me not seeing it before now! ! ! Richard Gere is (as always) just wonderful, this is a lovely simple story of the love of a dog for it's master, it's not thrilling, exciting, sexy or funny. . . it is just completely compelling and captivating, we love it from start to finish. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for the whole family.
wonderful, sad emotive film
I normally shed a few quiet tears in sad movies and in this one I just sobbed along with my husband. A must see for lovers of animals.
A great family movie, enjoyed it so much, I reccomend this movie to anyone.
Oh I cried my eyes out on this one a sucker for animal stories but this was based on true story. Richard Gere was great as the Professor who find Hachi at the station. For me I could only watch it once and would not buy my own copy because I would end up crying all the time even I know what is going to happen. Great movie
all i can say is brilliant.
A touching movie about the bond, love and loyalty between a dog and his owner. The ending had me in tears very sad. I enjoyed this movie.
beautiful, love movies based on fact, didnt expect anything that happened if you have half a heart love emotion you will love this movie
An ordinary story, with a sad ending. I liked how the dog was loyal. I got a bit emotional when the dog was alone and looking for his owner. The acting by Richard Gere was pretty hard to believe. This review is from the perspective of a ten year old.
This was a beautiful movie about the bond between a man and his dog. My husband and I watch it with our four children, with most of us crying at the end, especially knowing it actually happen in real life. Loved it!!
Beautiful story, but so so sad, just cried and cried. Made me want an Akita.
A movie worth seeing. I saw few shots of the Japanese version of this movie on You tube. Nice to see why Dogs are called men's best friend.
I will definitely say that Hachi has acted so well, well its a very convincing effort. Apart from that Richard Gere was great!!
This is a wonderful story, I highly recommend it.
This film was sad..... I cried a few times. The idea of a man's best friend, is nicely shown in the film.
loved the bond that Richard Gere
Amazing movie. Very sad in parts. The movie is very similar to another movie called Greyfriar's Bobby. Greyfriar's Bobby was about a loyal dog and his master. Both movies are a must for dog lovers!
Loved it, pulls at your heart strings, but Lovely story based on true events about a dogs loyalty
So sad, a real tear jerkier, if you need to clear the sinuses, this is the movie to watch.
I cried for nearly half hour after watching it, the best movie I have seen for awhile (drama)
Not a good movie for kids to watch, too sadddddd..
Such a beautiful movie, loved it from start to finish. My husband wouldn't normally watch a movie like this, nor would he shed a tear, but he did! Highly recommended, just make sure you have plenty of tissues.
Excellent movie - bring out the tissues
Well this was such a wonderful movie a real tear-jerker....From beginning to end it was such a wonderful experience of true connection between Hachi and Parker....I was fighting back the tears at the ending. I have not experienced a movie like this in a very long time.
A heart warming story, all dog lovers will understand the devotion and loyalty that a dog will give you. Probably the saddest dog movie I have seen, the devotion from the old dog is heart breaking, but it is a wonderful movie.
Really touching story. Dog lovers will reallly enjoy this movie and most others will like it too.
This story of a warm hearted familly welcoming Hachi into their midst shows that dumbnes is not realy a handicap if embraced with love and understanding. I also had to change my hanky after the show. How does one train a dog to become an actor? Wonderful acting by everyone involved.
So sad, even after a few days I think about it and my eye's well up! My poor dog got alot of cuddles and tears in her coat when I watched this.
It was so sad and so moving, prepare to keep tissues handy! Lovely movie
This is a heart warming story about the strong bonds of a dog and his owner.
It is sad, but the story is one that I will always treasure.
This breed of dog is quite amazing.
I am not one to cry at movies - just the occasional tearing up at the end of 'An Affair to Remember' or 'Ghost' - but I cried buckets throughout much of this incredibly moving story. If you have have your own 'Hachi' who waits in patient anticipation for you to come home every day, you should find yourself similarly moved. A must for all dog lovers..
what a beautiful story, shows how a dogs devotion to its master is for ever, certainally brought tears to my eyes
The entire family was brought to tears! Yes, we are dog lovers but it was very powerful and based on a true story.
