A lovely story but not a lot of depth to the film itself. As a dog lover, I found the story deeply moving and hard to bear at times. I think the wife could have been played with a little less dourness.

Loved this movie,so glad to find out about this story,a must for dog lovers, Richard Gere was probably not the right person for this movie as it was a Japanese story, but he did well to show the emotional side of things. The dogs were great actors too!

My whole family loved this movie. Being that it was based on some true events, I would have loved to have seen the movie done in Japan & based more to the true story.

This is one of the most painful, beautiful and heartbreaking animal stories on film. It is a very similar story to another deeply moving true story, "Grey Friar's Bobby" (the Scottish dog from Edinburgh, who would not leave his master's resting place), so it did not come as a surprise to me when it took the turns it did. But it is a howler - no pun intended! Dog lovers will be in absolute tears with this one, and although it was extraordinarily beautiful and moving and heartwarming, the heartbreak I felt watching this one will keep me from watching it again any time soon. It just cuts me up and I won't be watching it again in this decade. Definitely worth watching at least once, but be prepared for tears!!

For anyone who loves dogs this is a breath-catchingly emotional movie. A massive reminder of what love and loyalty mean, in this case to Hachi.

Saddest movie I've seen in a very long time. What I thought was amazingly well done was the fact that Richard Gere never used a collar and lead on the dog. This made it seem like the the two were friends/companions rather than dog and master/owner.

Gentle and nice but typical of an American version of a story borrowed from another country. As usual, the translation didn't work particularly well.

Being a lover of all things Akita, I had heard of the true story of Hachi years ago. When I heard there was going to be an American version of the tale I was horrified, thinking hollywood would butcher it, but I found they did a pretty good job. Yes, if you have any heart, you will cry but it is an awesome movie not to be missed.

Can't believe this wonderful movie slipped through with me not seeing it before now! ! ! Richard Gere is (as always) just wonderful, this is a lovely simple story of the love of a dog for it's master, it's not thrilling, exciting, sexy or funny. . . it is just completely compelling and captivating, we love it from start to finish. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for the whole family.

Oh I cried my eyes out on this one a sucker for animal stories but this was based on true story. Richard Gere was great as the Professor who find Hachi at the station. For me I could only watch it once and would not buy my own copy because I would end up crying all the time even I know what is going to happen. Great movie

An ordinary story, with a sad ending. I liked how the dog was loyal. I got a bit emotional when the dog was alone and looking for his owner. The acting by Richard Gere was pretty hard to believe. This review is from the perspective of a ten year old.

This story of a warm hearted familly welcoming Hachi into their midst shows that dumbnes is not realy a handicap if embraced with love and understanding. I also had to change my hanky after the show. How does one train a dog to become an actor? Wonderful acting by everyone involved.

I am not one to cry at movies - just the occasional tearing up at the end of 'An Affair to Remember' or 'Ghost' - but I cried buckets throughout much of this incredibly moving story. If you have have your own 'Hachi' who waits in patient anticipation for you to come home every day, you should find yourself similarly moved. A must for all dog lovers..
