Hollywood legends Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blain (from the original Broadway cast) are dazzling in this Frank Loesser (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) masterpiece, unleashing a "spectacular, song-and-dance show that's loaded with entertainment" (New York Journal-American). Featuring hits like "Luck Be a Lady" and "A Woman in Love," this smash film version of one of Broadway's most popular musicals is guaranteed, rip-roaring "four-star entertainment" (New York Daily News).

The slickest big-time New York City gamblers, Sky Masterson (Brando) and Nathan Detroit (Sinatra), can't resist making or taking a bet on anything. So when a pretty missionary (Simmons) sets up shop in the neighborhood, Nathan stakes a grand that Sky can't seduce her. But all bets are off when Sky falls madly in love in this romantic musical spectacular that sets the Big Apple afire with excitement!

Some great musical numbers and performances from the cast. The plot line is kind of convoluted and contrived (even by musical standards), which means the film drags in places, but overall it's easy to see why this is a classic. Bonus Features include original trailer and making-of featurette.

In my top ten musicals. The writers could hardly go wrong with Damon Runyon's great characters and have come up with the music to match. One from the "Golden Years" of Hollywood. Watchable over and over again.

This is a very enjoyable musical comedy. It is especially interesting to see Marlon Brando singing, which he does reasonably well, and dancing (quite good). The various dancing sequences are well staged. It has been re-written somewhat from the original stage version but it still looks like a filmed version of a stage show. However it is one of the great MGM musicals of the 1950s.
