A Heroic Tale of Courage and Triumph In the epic tradition of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, THE GREAT RAID is an inspirational true story of the most triumphant rescue mission in U.S. military history! As World War II rages, the elite 6th Ranger Battalion is given a mission of heroic proportions: push 30 miles behind enemy lines and liberate over 500 American prisoners of war. Under the command of Lt. Col. Henry Mucci (Benjamin Bratt -- TRAFFIC), the men of the 6th will face the unthinkable by attempting the impossible! Also featuring James Franco (SPIDER-MAN 1 & 2), Connie Nielsen (GLADIATOR), Joseph Fiennes (SHAKESPEAKE IN LOVE), and Australia's own Craig McLachlan (NEIGHBOURS), this gripping big-screen hit captures a moment in time when men of honor became soldiers of destiny!

At first I thought "oh no, terrible acting" but hang in there, it gets better. Being a true story, which I was unaware of, made this a movie worth watching. Don't expect the standard of "Saving Private Ryan" and you won't be disappointed.

Feels too much like a tele movie, possibly because it is, too much feelings and love story etc by men in harsh conditions who would have more of just 'present condition' on their minds ... if you like a glossed over flag waving war story then you might enjoy this. Although to be fair it was still watchable if you didnt think too hard about the content ...

I love to watch wartime movies. This one is the best I've seen in recent times. Part of history I wasn't aware of. Highly recommend this one to everyone.

When this movie started it appeared familiar - it may have been a tv mini series some time ago. Anyway it is still a good war movie - worth a look

Quite enjoyable. I thought it was well done. I can't think of anything to complain about. The special effects and historical sets looked authentic.

Not bad, a bit slow in parts and I could have done without the love interest, but it's worth watching.

crap film - poorly acted. I didn't really care much for the characters. It's actually a good true story that wasn't done justice.

Did something wrong and it didn't work. This was worth seeing, a bit rough for those with not so strong stomachs but the storyline was very good and worth seeing.

Actually this was quite good, and similar in some ways to Saving Private Ryan. It is definitely worth the look.

Disappointing war film based on an extraordinary event. Cliched from beginning to end and even the actual raid itself proceeds without much tension.

A depressing film in that it was based on fact and also the horrific things things that so many people had to endure. The incredible bravery of these people was truly inspiring though I doubt I could have done it. Well made and acted and well worth a look.

Comparing this to "Saving Private Ryan" is comparing a mini to a lamborgini yes they both are cars and yes they will both get you to the same place but like the mini this movie was a slow ride to the end with not much thrills until the last few minutes. There is much better out there, eg the Ultra fast and slick "Saving Private Lambo"

It's billed as an epic in the vein of Saving Private Ryan. Never quite reaches those heights. Bit long!!!!

This is a good war movie...interesting and entertaining. Hire it if u like the occasional war movie. A bit too pro USA propaganda, but tells of a little known rescue during the second world war. Good acting and script.

In the tradition of Zulu - aka heroic events as a result of massive disaster by high command - quite well done but somewhat long winded in parts. Worth a watch though
