A brilliant and respected criminal psychologist, Dr. Miranda Grey (HALLE BERRY) is an expert at knowing what is rational. What is logical. What is sane. Under the direction of her husband (CHARLES S. Gothika is a scary movie. the scenes inside the mental hospital are superbly scary. Helped along by the incredible acting skills of Halle Berry. Did she imgagine she was being visited by a dead person or was it real. I don't believe in dead people haunting us, but it goes to show what a power the human mind has, because Miranda obviously believes it. What a way to get even with a wandering spouse! What a way to wander. Perverted, torturous, sex forced on unwilling accomplices, who are then left to die slowly and in pain from lack of water & malnutrition. Gave me shudders. don't watch it if you can't have the sound turned up so you can hear every word.

Please, please, please don't waste your time. A pretty good psychological thriller about a woman who can't remember what she did just three nights before, and has ended up in a mental institution because of it, has just been walked all over by a sodden backstory about ghosties and revenge on someone she thought she knew, but really didn't. Was the ghost her friend, or her enemy? Why was it throwing her around the room and cutting her wrists to shreds in one scene, then letting her out and sending her on her merry way in another? Halle Berry didn't bring any life to the character at all, and the movie just dragged through the easily-predicted 'twist' and 'doubletwist' at the end. Definitely not worth paying cinema ticket costs for.

Yes, one needs to "Suspend reality" and yes, one could drive a truck through the holes in plot. This is the case with most Holywood movies to varying degrees. However, if you like supernatural themes you will enjoy this flick and no doubt you will be more than willing to suspend reality for the sake of a bit of scare.
