Emily Lilly is the dutiful wife of Theodore "Ted" Lilly, an East Pennsylvania preacher to a close-knit small town congregation and a modest radio audience. Although outwardly demur, Emily is the quiet driving force behind her husbands growing influence both at home and in the wider broadcast community. Emily's dedication to the man whose faith saved her from a life of regret is unyielding, but as their joint quest to bring their message to millions through a pending national television deal is about to happen, she realizes her husband no longer treats her the way he used to. During a church social even Ted introduces Luke, a young man in need of work and a place to stay.Over the next few weeks Emily's dismay over Ted's increasing estrangement is compounded by her growing attraction for the handsome, charismatic drifter.
