Charlie Chaplin's classic comedy is immortal for the scrumptious supper of boiled boot, the teetering Klondike cabin, and the dance of the dinner rolls. Some parts are very sentimental, but these give the viewer time to catch his or her breath after laughing so much., Charlie Chaplin's classic comedy is immortal for the scrumptious supper of boiled boot, the teetering Klondike cabin, and the dance of the dinner rolls. I was fairly shocked to hear Chaplin's voiceover and realized then that I was watching the 1942 "revision" (which apparently also cuts a final kiss between the lone prospector/tramp and Georgia Hale -- who had lost favour by 1942). At any rate, even though it is Charlie's voice, it kind of destroyed the atmosphere of the film for me (with a blow by blow narration instead of inter-titles). The Alaskan setting is an awesome place for a film, but this felt like just a string of gags and I didn't laugh as much as I have at other Chaplin films and they didn't have as much ingenuity as Keaton typically puts into his gags (the teetering cabin gets closest).

That's my second Charlie Chaplin movie and I like it. I think I'll watch more. Love the story line. Funny how it all ends up. I can see why Charlie got so famous, he has lots of talent.

Chaplin is still a master of movement and comedy.I only remember the hut on the edge of the cliff from my youth so I had lots of laughs again.
