It was ok...nothing to write home about!
The most critically acclaimed film of the past 50 years ... and with good reason. Part II is almost as good. Don't bother with Part III.
Sopranos.............................way more entertaining! This Godfather trilogy is so overrated.
I thought it was a good movie, but nothing spectacular. I liked the acting, the story and the film techniques etc. But I've seen much better movies that haven't had half the critical acclaim as this. I'd have to say this is one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. That's just my two cents.
Loved it.Good portrayal of the early italian mafia in America, reminded me of the sopranos in many ways, cant wait to see part 2
As good as the Godfather 2.
I honestly can't really understand the appeal of this movie. I suppose it was groundbreaking for the times, but it's extremely slow and tedious by today's standards, and the script is annoyingly disjointed, filled with extraneous bits and pieces that don't go anywhere or add anything to the plot. Yes, the performances by the main cast are mostly brilliant and a lot of credit has to go to this movie for establishing a certain style in film narrative, not to mention pop culture references that still live on today, but ultimately, watching this left me cold. I don't know, maybe I'm just too young to 'get' it. Plus mob genre films aren't really my cup of tea anyway.
Haven't seen it for years and it was better then ever
A very good movie, but well short of the hype that then and now surrounds it. Richard Conte would have been a far better Godfather as Marlon Brando's speech was unintelligible for the majority of the time he spoke, which was annoying. Al Pacino was excellent.
My husband and I wanted to see this classic and finally we got to see the 'horse's head' scene that is so famous! A long but fascinating drama depicting the fighting between the American mafia families. So many famous actors! Al Pacino is rivetting. Brando is hard to understand - sub-titles would have been useful!! Can't wait to see Pt 2.
What do you say about The Godfather ?? Brilliant
I', definatley a late bloomer when it comes to this film, seeing it yesterday for the first time. And with so much hype and history behind this film, I had high expectations. I enjoyed it from start to finish, and I keenly await the arrival of the sequel to see Pacinos chartares next evolution. The Godfather was great!
How can one rate a classic film like this? If your film experience has been remiss in including this film until now, the film may be difficult to assess objectively. It is truly staggering how many techniques and ideas have come from this film and are now accepted as the standard. A lot of the dialogue and imagery is now infamous. Certainly it is an impressive film and worth a look. It feels almost like a history lesson in film making. And it's a who's who of famous faces - all looking very young! Mostly terrific performances, with a few rather unfortunate exceptions.
Still a great movie- even the "Marlon Mumble" give cred to his character.
Two words.... Marlon Brando.
Outstanding movie, if only they made movies like this these days.
I expected to not like this movie, but was blown away by it. Al Pacino is brilliant!
Very Interesting Mob movie, Marlon Brando is very good as the Don.
What can be said about The Godfather trilogy that hasn't already been said? It is one of the best series in the crime genre that in my opinion has ever been made, with believable stories, excellent characterisations & sets, & top class acting by so many in the cast of each movie. Each of the three films was great in its own right & held my interest throughout. A constant repeater.
There isn't a single film which has inspired more pop culture references than the Godfather. Because of that it is unmissable.
A real epic - great acting and use of colour in the cinematography - still holds up well today
First time to see it, I can see why it has caught the attention of many with it's timeless cast and script has proven to be as good as anything else put out today. Unpredictable, sitting on the edge of your chair waiting to see what will happen next. I like unpredictable well written movies. Timeless! Can't wait to see The Godfather part 2.
a classic movie.. and the best of the trilogy!
Usually not my kind of movie but it's easy to see why it's considered a classic. I'm thoroughly looking forward to seeing the sequal now.
Very long but a good plot
A CLASSIC - NOTHING ELSE TO SAY
This movie ranks in my top ten movies...
Great directing, acting and writing!!
Every guy can relate to this story at one point or another. To other it reads like the lives word for word...
One of the best movies of all times!
This movie teaches you things, who needs a bible when you got this.
This is a brilliant movie and should not be missed.
I have seen this one before but I must have changed. It did not have the impact I could remember it having. Still worth the watch, well acted with Marlin Brando, 'the godfather', in his acting career heyday.
Excelent movie,a bit violent, but so was the era it depicts.
Brando is Brando, but you should see the YOUNG James Caan !!!
Having finally gotten around to seeing this film, it was every bit as good as I had heard and read. The acting is superb, the script and directing inspired, and the pace perfect. Importantly, the film never glamorizes the violence - it is quite sickening in places, actually - but this heightens the rality of it. A great movie.
Excellent portrayal of all roles and brilliant performance by Brando. A great movie.
Arguably the best film...ever! Nino Rota's music brilliantly supports every wedding, christening and funeral...which themselves act as cover for the Mafia's 'murders most foul'. Brilliant stuff.
Outstanding movie great acting a real classic.
Awesome film - one of the classics that should be on everyones' 'Must See List'.
In my opinion one of the best movies made. Great acting, particularly by Brandon, with top direction. Good story and scenery. Highly rated, must see. Typically, if you live by the sword then you die by the sword.
Stunning film, outstanding performances.
How can you review what is probably the best film ever made? You can't. Everything about this film is brilliant.
