Epic fight scenes and class acting. Costumes were great however couldn't help but think of a TV drama each time the camera lingered and zoomed up to a character's face. As 'Ian' writes - It is a 'modern classic.'

An epic story and epic production. Unexpected changes in pace, location and events keep it moving. In the end, though, it's all too far-fetched and melodramatic. As well, the after-life theme is too laboured and distracting.

Unleash Hell! This is a modern classic. Joaquin is perfectly cast and does a great job making you hate him. Djimon is brilliant and emotive. Richard Harris, Oliver Reed great actors from a time gone by. And Russell Crowe shows his class in this ensemble.

Still one of the best action films in the last 10 years - Russell Crowe was great as the Roman General. The encounter in Germanica and the arena scenes are fabulous.

After Russell Crowe did this movie he said he thought if a movie created a world that you wanted to stay in for another 20mins then it's a success. This movie is a huge success! I felt like a fly on the wall in 180AD throughout.

One of those classic films where the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad and you know that good will triumph in the end. The battle of Carthage scene is definitely the best in the movie. Russell Crowe is very believable in the role of Maximus. The battle scenes are extraordinarily well put together. Definitely a must see.

One of Russell Crowes best movies. Superb acting, beautiful scenery and a gripping story. This movie keeps you captured from the start. Not a movie for the littlies due to the graphic scenes but my older children enjoyed immensely. This is one movie I can quite happily watch over and over again.

A classic action epic charting the last months of General Maximus (Crowe) as he uses his military skill, courage and honour to topple the rule of Emporer Comodus. Quite brutal in places but very fast paced so viewers don't feel they are dwelling on the carnage of the gladiators.
