In 2032, the line between man and machine has been erased...

Batou is a cyborg. His body is artificial: the only remnants left of his humanity are traces of his brain…and the memories of a woman called The Major.

A detective for the government’s covert anti-terrorist unit, Public Security Section 9, Batou is investigating the case of a gynoid — a hyper-realistic female robot created specifically for sexual companionship — who malfunctions and slaughters her owner.

As Batou delves deeper into the investigation, questions arise about humanity’s need to immortalize its image in dolls. Together, Batou and his partner must take on violent Yakuza thugs, devious hackers, government bureaucrats and corporate criminals to uncover the shocking truth behind the crime.

An amazing film, both visually and in its mind bending narrative. I dug the heck out of it, an absolutely stunning piece of not only anime, but cinema. I only wish I saw it on Blu-ray or better yet, at a cinema.

Having seen the first Ghost in the Shell some years ago I was disappointed by this film. Yes, the animation is beautiful, imaginative and amazing. But the story was complete nonsense.

This is not as good as Ghost In The Shell but its still good the 3d mix with the 2d anime is okay can be good at times like the intro to the film but other times it fails. the main character is good but i still rather major that is one flaw into this film but as a whole its a good fun and has some great action in this detective story with cyborg its a great film.

After a letdown in Ghost in the Shell 1, Oshii returns with a much meatier and well realised film. Fantastic animation - the illusion and festival sequences were awe-inspiring. That said, this is definitely not a film for the philosophical layman. Focuses on the mind-body problem, and claiming the existence of a separate soul, asks whether cyborgs have such a soul.

I am no fan of anime but this was really quite special. That so much attention should be lavished on the background and so little on the lead characters was odd, however some of the CG was awe inspiring. This comes with a 2nd disk of interviews and such.

An interesting follow-on from the original. Explores the concept of sentient dolls, and compares them with child-raising. Further explores the issue of where to draw the line that says "this is human and that is not".

It was okay but does not measure up to the vast amount of other anime titles out there.
