In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) sells his soul to Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda), but after being double-crossed by the devil he is forced to part from the love of his life, Roxanne Simpson (Eva Mendes). Years later, Johnny's path crosses again with Roxanne, now a go-getting reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny's soul if he becomes the fabled Ghost Rider, a supernatural spirit of vengeance. Mephistopheles charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart (Wes Bentley), Mephistopheles' nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one. With the aid of the enigmatic Caretaker (Sam Elliott), Johnny must learn to harness his newfound power in opposing Blackheart.

Great movie. The effects were very well done, particularly on the Ghost Rider. People criticize Nicholas Cage's performance, but he was playing a man without a soul. I think he pitched it just right.
I'm now eagerly awaiting the sequel "Spirit of Vengeance" in 2012.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Nicolas Cage is possibly the least appropriate actor to portray the Rider. I spent most of the film imagining Elijah Wood doing a more convincing job.
Also made me feel sorry for Sam Elliott.

Had a gander at one or two (or so) Ghost Rider comics when I was younger and have to say was impressed by this adaptation. Am a Cage fan (Red Rock West is a brilliant black comedy) for all his dour range of expressions, but the effects were perfect and, because it was filmed in and around Melbourne, playing spot the location was fun. Rebel Wilson (lately of Bogan Pride) also makes an appearance. If you like Marvel adaptations, you'll like this.

Mephistopheles, his agents, lots of fire, spectacular bike rides all contributed to this terrific tale of doing deals with the Devil. Nicholas Cage & Peter Fonda were well matched and Sam Elliot just perfect as the Caretaker. No doubt there will be a Ghostrider II as the legend continues!

I generally love comic adaptions. This however is a very poor adaption and relies too much on the special effects. The effects are good but not great. The story line is generally weak and needs too much knowledge fromt he comics to truely understand Ghostrider's powers. Better movies out there in this genre give it a miss.

I was excited about this movie because a major part of it was filmed around Melbourne and in particular, Market St, where I was working at the time. However, after seeing the end product I found the story line very thin and Nicolas Cage looked extremely bizarre as the super hero. Still, some great special effects and as far as an action movie it has some engagin moments.
