Garden of Evil is the story of three Americans stranded in a small Mexican village on their way to the famed California gold fields. Whilst there, they are offered a huge cash sum to travel with a local woman into the wilderness to rescue her husband, a trapped miner. Despite the danger, the bounty is too great to refuse.

Proof that you can't really go back; saw this as a kid and had a good memory of it...but time has been cruel. Still it's OK if you let go. You have to be a pretty keen fan of westerns though. Gary Cooper is a bonehead as usual; Widmark always has that shifty edge that makes him and his characters interesting.

This was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid in the 50's. Did it hold up? well, yes and no.
The Cinemascope photography and locations are terrific. The story, however, is not strong enough. and the acting, today, looks stilted and corny.
But if you were, like me, a Saturday matinee moviesgoer in the 50's, you'll get a nostalgic thrill from watching this western.
