In times of war two centuries apart, two distinct worlds are linked by a single family and the house in which they live. It is 1944 and thirteen year-old Tolly Oldknow (Alex Etel) is sent to spend Christmas with his grandmother (the legendary Oscar winner Maggie Smith), whilst his mother searches for news of his father in wartime London. In the old house, Tolly becomes a witness to events during the Napoleonic wars and finds himself slowly drawn into participating in the drama. Invisible to most people in the past, yet able to move amongst them, he begins to unravel the mystery which has bewildered his family for two centuries. The solution to the puzzle leads him into his greatest adventure yet. From Time to Time is based on the 1954 classic novel The Chimneys of Green Knowe by Lucy M. Boston. Directed by Julian Fellowes who won an Oscar for writing Gosford Park, it also stars Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, Secrets and Lies) and Dominic West (The Wire, Chicago) this compelling family drama is not to be missed.

This got me in right from the beginning. So cleverly scripted and acted. Having Maggie Smith was an added bonus. A must see as far as I'm concerned.

Too far fetched and not believable. Talking to ghosts who are seeing the future? I mean really.... And these ghosts passing objects to this person in the future? Really stupid. An insult to one's intelligence.

Julian Fellow is such an excellent writer (Downton Abbey) and this is a darker story with great actors. The story is shown through the eyes of the boy and set in wartime done in a charming way. It has Maggie Smith in it so is a must see.

Charming and really well done. I had low expectations of a slightly old-fashioned lo-fi British children's film, and it is, but I was captured by the heart and soul of this one. The story isn't new, and you'll pretty much guess what's coming, but don't let that put you off. If you want to see a well made film tell a warmly familiar story, go for it.

Brilliant. Perfect for all ages. It's a movie version of the old Green Knowe books by Lucy M. Boston. I'm rather upset that no one told me this was Green Knowe, always loved those books... and this is a beautiful representation of "The Chimneys of Green Knowe", don't miss out.

Interesting premise, really badly executed. With quality cast including Maggie Smith and Pauline Collins, there was really no excuse (can't imagine how their agents managed to talk them into taking this second rate project on). The main problem was the boy playing the lead role - I've seen piano legs less wooden than this kid. Dull as ditchwater.

THIS IS A GHOST MOVIE FOR YOUNG TEENAGERS. Quality actors wasted on a predictable script and very thin story line. No drama just light entertainment.

OK but forgettable. Maggie Smith is, as always, perfect. It felt like a children's movie to me and I can't see any child being frightened by it, but what do I know about kids.

Enjoyable, but a bit lacking in the suspense you would expect from a ghost story as it is all accepted so easily. Maggie Smith is somewhat restrained and we know she can do so much more. I watched it on a gloomy wet day and it kept me well distracted so it did it's job.

I think anything created by Julian Fellowes, famed for "Downton Abbey", is going to be good and I wasn't disappointed. For a start, it is wonderful storytelling. The relationship between Tolly and his granny progresses to a brilliant ending. The story is a mix of many entertaining elements, wonderful characters, a picturesque setting and the mystery of what unfolds. For those who like ghost stories, I can highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this movie, it was full of twists and turns and although I'd call it a "light" movie, there was no wasted space and it left me disappointed at the end because I wanted more more more

I laughed and I cried and I got goosebumps .... A fantastic film, not to be missed. As it has a PG rating I tried getting my daughter to watch it with me, but she found it a bit creepy, so I'm not sure if it will appeal to children, but a Must See for anyone wanting a break from Hollywood schmaltz.

This is a good film. Very entertaining. Good acting from Maggie Smith and the actor who played the young boy. Even though rated as a child's film, it was equally entertaining for adults.

this title i enjoyed. I thought it was well worth the watch. The concept has been done a few times now, but this is another format of this genre. Well done, keeps you interested throughout. Whole family could sit down to this one (with guidance). You can get a little 'lost' in the story at times but it always seems to 'get back on track'

Beautiful movie well acted, interesting storyline, remimded me of 'Downton Abbey' but that may be Maggie Smith plays the family matriarch in this one too and has several others from the TV series. Does have some supernatural themes so be aware for younger children. A really lovely film showing how strong family ties are through the generations.

An enjoyable, interesting and beautifully shot film adapted by Julian fellows, the writer of Gosford Park and Downton Abbey. It was a surprise to see many of Downton's cast in this 2009 movie. I'm now inspired to read the book.
