In the tradition of the Old Southern storyteller, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE weaves together distant lives and cherished times. FRIED GREEN TOMATOES is the tale of family and friendship in rural Alabama. It is a remembrance of youth and one young woman's invincible spirit. Like the best of tales, it connects with experiences we all share: weddings and funerals, recreation and retribution, morals, memorable meals, and, of course, the occasional murder.

FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE - a title which signifies something that brings people together - ends with a deep understanding of the importance of friendships. Friendships which have the power to make family from strangers. And, in the Southern storytelling tradition, friendships forged through the power of words as well as deeds.

might have been a good movie with subtitles. Whatever gives the Americans the idea that they speak English?

Since eating some fried green tomatoes whilst in the southern states of America, I decided to watch this movie. Never seen it before, but have been aware of the title. The tomatoes make a few appearances. A bit long, but a nice movie about friendship and love and storytelling. Some of Cathy Bates' scenes towards the end when she becomes 'liberated' are quite funny. Interesting to see "Nancy" from 'Weeds' younger, more polite and talking with a Southern accent.

A great story, even better second time around.Still not sure if they really served up the baby's father with the tomatoes but that's what makes it so interesting

Although it is made in 1991, it looks like it was shot in 1984. Too long with too much padding.

Fried Green Tomatoes would not play on this DVD. No matter which film you selected, what you saw was the Fabulous Baker Boys. This DVD stopped playing after the first 25 minutes and would not continue.

There's some of the usual annoyances to be found in period recreations: cars and trains much too clean and freshly painted for example. And the main characters show no sign of ageing though the story extends over about fifteen years. These gripes aside, this is a wonderful story, very moving, and a cleverly unfolded mystery that everyone will enjoy, I think

A great movie, not dated and leaves us with a sense of optimism- certainly needed in our current mean and fairly greedy developed countries.
