yeh this is terrible. like i never bother to write reviews on sites but i will this time to save someone from watching the worst film of all time
Aronofsky must have been telling some weird 'coming of death' tale here that isn't very well thought out. This movie let's you come to your own conclusions, and mine was that it wasn't worth the time to watch, and some of his stuff is really good.
I am afraid this was a bit New Agey for my taste. I don't fair well with too much assumed knowledge,
Watched it bc of Hugh.
A movie which relates to real life as I a imagine it would be. No Hollywood dramatisation and unrealistic people playing the parts.
worst movie ever! A load of Buddhist re-incarnation crap mixed in with catholic mythology and trying to find a cure for cancer. Very messy and muddled. SPOILER: It is telling the story of the same person (Hugh Jackman's characters) through his many different re-incarnated lives trying to find the fountain of youth.
Even if Aronofsky's film wasn't something of a mess (past, present, and future stories inter-woven into a half-baked tale of "love conquers all") the overall somber tone really makes it a drag. Sure, there are interesting ideas throughout but too much ludicrosity just weighs everything down. Perhaps a less pretentious tone would have freed the ideas to reach some sort of exhilarating potential.
Very unusual. Past my understanding.
That was SO bad! We persevered hoping that all would be revealed in the end but this was not to be. What was Hugh thinking that he was a part of such a disaster!
Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world. The plot was interesting but this film didnt do it justice
Visually this is beautiful and Hugh Jackman
Should have known better than to watch a movie starring Hugh Jackman.
terrible, total waste of time, all copies should be burned
If you like your movies to have a plot, don't watch this one. The synopsis was misleading didn't help me understand what was going on.
Although I did enjoy this movie it took me about half an hour to fully understand the plot. I had read the review on the back but it sort of jumped back and forth but half an hour into it I understood it. It was really well done in my opinion and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie
Very interesting cinematography and excellent acting by Jackman. The three intertwining settings can make it a little weird and confusing at first, but by the end creates something unusual and captivating.
An amazing film, beautifully filmed with stunning performances. One that needs to be seen a few times to really 'get'. If you like a film with layers that makes you think - this one is perfect!
I enjoyed this movie but I can't review it other than to say you need to see this one
The cast performance was brilliant, but I was left a little unsatisfied by the content.
Not worth watching. I normally like Hugh Jackman but this was rubbish. Tried watching more than once but just didn't like it. Confusing, no decent story line. Forget it.
What is there to say about this movie? All i can say is DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ORDERING THIS MOVIE!!
I am a huge Hugh JAckman and even i could not through the first 40 minutes of this film. I had to turn it off. Sorry but i would not waste one of your rentals on this at all. In fact i am a little pissed off that i wasted mine with getting this movie. Sorry Hugh but it is just a terrible movie and what on earth made you think it was great is beyond me!!
I found it a bit hard to follow and lost interest.
Mind blowing movie that imaginatively explores the issues of time, death, loss and the search to overcome or transcend these. Some may think it pretentious but I reckon it's inspired
Well what can i say about this? Other than Jackman's excellent acting this movie had nothing else in it for me... It is sad to say but i feel i wasted a small part of my life watching this... :(
OMG..what rubbish..the cast and director were on something when this was made!!!..I watched till the end but the plot escaped me..very strange movie about rebirth..I think..forget this horrible mismash and tell 'em I said so!!..a 2/10 from me
This movie was too "artistic" for me-- I ended up very irritated with the whole thing-- which is a shame because I think Rachel and Hugh are great actors.
It was a relief when she finally died...confusing, aimless and disjointed - and a pity because the premise for the story sounded compelling. I stuck with it but was very disappointed - normally I could watch Hugh Jackman read names out of a phone book but bald and in a bubble - clearly I wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time!
Don't bother . . .unless your brain is tripping. Maybe then you will be able to work it out!!!!!
One of my all time favorite movies though I do reccomend that you watch it more than once as the first time can leave you a little confused.
I didn't bother watching this to the end. The plot jumps around with little or no apparent thread - just a muddle. Very disappointing.
Didn't really get into this movie, it was too hard to follow at times so not one of my favourites
What is going on?? Luckily I read the DVD cover otherwise I would have no idea. I'm sure this could have been quite a good movie had it actually had a storyline that you could follow.
I enjoyed this very much, I read the graphic novel (comic book) first which made the movie easy to understand. The movie and the graphic novel were created together and compliment each other very well.
I think the plot is fairly simple and easy to comprehend once you get the overall picture:
Man's wife is sick and he is trying to find a cure, emotion ensues.
Beautifully shot and framed but the story is a little disjointed.
As other reviewers have said, "Pay attention"!
Aronofsky will only get better.
was a dark and very boring movie had no
substance and all over the place... not a good choice
movie
Hugh Jackman in a very demanding and interesting role. Rachel Weisz is as beautiful as ever. Also a demanding role for her. I enjoyed it. Though have to say I enjoyed the interview at the end more so. He is so hot and talented. We are lucky he is an Aussie. I am happy to claim him as one of ours.
Saw Requiem for a Dream and thought I'd be in for
another compelling movie. Sure, the
cinematography is great as are the visual effects, but
the story didn't really grab me as such. Very slow
paced and jumps to different time frames with little
explanation or any references. I wanted to like this
film but I could watch about 50minutes until I
thought, "This movie just isn't grabbing me". Maybe it
would have been better if it were about 3hrs and
Aronofsky had invested more time in the screenplay
for character development and to add some
cohesion to the plot. 100mins is nowhere near
enough time for a director of his talents.
Thoroughly, genuinely appalling. Firstly the synopsis is not about the film, but a story within the story. Much of it is pretty but it is a contrived mishmash of new age fluff and emotive pap. Considering it jumps within 3 storylines it is surprisingly plotless. Not for anyone with a working Y chromosone.
No.
What an amazing movie. You've got to sit and watch it all the way through (no getting up for a cuppa in the middle) or you'll miss something. It traverses through the four stages of his thoughts, from the present, to writing of the final chapter, to what occured before she passed away and then his own journey of discovery. Unless you are in tune and happy with the inner emotions and how they work, then you'll love this movie ... if you aren't you might think it was a little slow ... I absolutely loved it
Maybe - Beautiful scene at a time. But boring and confusing.
Bizarre Tangled story and not overly entertaining...
oh my .... what a shicker - boring, werid and just plain uninteresting Don't go near this one - sorry Hugh I am normally a big fan.
Mind blowing movie that imaginatively explores the issues of time, death, loss and the search to overcome or transcend these. Some may think it pretentious but I reckon it's inspired.
Takes some work, but worth it! Incredible visual feast. Very rewarding for those who like to be challenged and have the patience to allow a movie to slowly draw you in. Hugh Jackman was amasing!!
This movie is wierd! I suppose every high profile actor is required to make at least one artsy fartsy movie. I literally lost the plot, some made sense but the rest just lost me. The synopsis of movies don't do them justice they just suck you in to thinking they're great movies when they're not.
fantastic movie. its artistic and pushes the boundary of what a modern movie really is.
I wanted to like this, but is was a bit disjointed to enjoy as much as I could have.
hard to follow the storyline jumps from one time frame to the next making hard to keep track of what is going on.
An intriguing though & script that was poorly directed & constructed. Not recommended to watch this if you are going to have interruptions as then there is no hope of picking up the threads of what little plot there is
disappointing...I expected a lot more than this film delivered...only worth watching IF U LIKE THE STARS
A most unusual story, beautifully filmed, excellent acting and an engrossing story line. I enjoyed it very much, although I can understand it wouldn't be everyone's choice.
Wish I hadn't rented this one. Could not follow what was really happening and why?? Could have been really inspiring without all the new age theories thrown in.
I watched this at home while I was sick with the flu, and I think I felt worse afterwards. Reminds me of those Japanese movies that jump from concept to concept really fast... trying to generate thought, but often leaving the viewer perplexed. The bits I did grasp, I thought were really good. Can I split my vote?
Could have been good but went to far with the out of body stuff
A fascinating odyssey. Hugh Jackman was excellent in his triple role. But it wasn't easy to follow at times and I felt a little lost. Overall though it was a terrific movie, great effects, wonderful cinemaotography and a thought provoking tale.
An amzing picture. The work of Hugh Grant is unbelievable. Those who like to really think about what they see will love it and watch it twicwe or even three times
Not a bad performance from our Hugh, but this movie lost me with Hugh doing Peter Garrett and floating through space in a bubble...
This movie was boring and very weird
A great performance from Hugh Jackman - I enjoyed the way the three different eras tied in together to weave and interesting and heartfelt tale.
Way too complex. There was 3 stories in one and you had to wait 95 minutes to figure out what was going on. Weird!
Visually stunning. This film is remarkable from other films much like What Dreams May Come. The story is captivating. Bear with it, this film is different but it is ultimately very rewarding. And, if like me you thought Hugh Jackman hadn't yet proven his acting credentials, this movie does it hands down!
One of the strangest shows I've watched. I think it'll turn out to be a classic in the far-distant future, but for now....
Excellent, strange, whacked, fascinating, adventurous: one of the most interesting movies I've seen in ages. Needs your full attention. A repeat viewing or two wouldn't hurt either.
to drawn out story up and down good acting though
New age wierd crap .. didn't like it at all.
I found this movie drawn-out, pretentious and tediously pompous. The overuse of visual metaphor, interleaved with a parallel fictional storyline to capture the feeling of lost and futility ... it's all just a concocted mess. There more subtle movies out there that capture the theme much better.
Very hard to follow this movie - quite a lot of concentration required.
What a beautiful man Hugh Jackman is and this movie showcased his talents to perfection. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Found it to be a little strange when it kept jumpiing from one century to the other but still worth watching.
Heavy going....turgid at times but potentially, very rewarding.
Good fun if you're in the mood for philosophical debate and disection.
dont bother, could not figure out the plot even after the movie got over. very bad screen play.
Wow! Superb movie that suits anyone who likes to be challenged by a movie. The imagery throughout draws you in, but might be lost on anyone that doesn't have the patience to join the characters on a unique journey.
Only the truly daft and unintelligent don't enjoy and understand this gorgeous and original film.
Don't bother, it's all over the place.
Not much story. Good acting, but hard to follow.
Interesting and thought provoking, visually beautiful with great performance by the lovely Hugh Jackman.
Wasted two hours when I could have been watching paint dry.
bit wierd... but watchable
The film was shot in semi darkness and it was hard to see what was happening. It kept diving backards and forwards which was very confusing.
Forget this unless you are truly sci-fi mad
Still trying to understand the link between the past and the present. One you really have to pay attention to. Great effects.
I found this very slow, disjointed and not really what I thought the movie would be about. I usually love HJ & RW but not this time. Wouldn't recommend it other than to recommend not to watch it.
The name is a bit of a misnomer its actually about the tree of life and having more than one life. Even if you are a huge hugh jackman fan this is very out there and it not too coherant as it jumps around lots
I would love to give this film five stars but that would be misleading to a certain extent.
Although I enjoyed thus film immensely I can see how others might not view it in such a favourable light.
A story of life, love.....and death over the ages.
A somewhat confusing plot with it jumping around a bit. The sort of movie you need to watch a couple of times to really grasp what is going on.
Worth watching but didn't blow me away as Requim For a Dream, had.
Pee yew! Awful, awful, awful. Not one compelling or sympathetic character, muddled stupid story, predictable as the day is long, and the scriptwriter has decided to rewrite Spanish history and the Bible to make his script work. Spare yourself this turgid, badly made movie.
