What if you could live forever? The Fountain is an odyssey about one man’s eternal struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th-century Spain, where conquistador, Tomas (Hugh Jackman) commences his search for the Fountain of Youth, the legendary entity believed to grant immortality. As modern-day scientist, Tommy Creo, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife, Isabel (Rachel Weisz). Travelling through deep space as a 26th-century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries that have consumed him for a millennium. The three stories converge into one truth, as the Thomas of all periods – warrior, scientist and explorer – comes to terms with life, love, death and rebirth.

Aronofsky must have been telling some weird 'coming of death' tale here that isn't very well thought out. This movie let's you come to your own conclusions, and mine was that it wasn't worth the time to watch, and some of his stuff is really good.

A movie which relates to real life as I a imagine it would be. No Hollywood dramatisation and unrealistic people playing the parts.

worst movie ever! A load of Buddhist re-incarnation crap mixed in with catholic mythology and trying to find a cure for cancer. Very messy and muddled. SPOILER: It is telling the story of the same person (Hugh Jackman's characters) through his many different re-incarnated lives trying to find the fountain of youth.

Even if Aronofsky's film wasn't something of a mess (past, present, and future stories inter-woven into a half-baked tale of "love conquers all") the overall somber tone really makes it a drag. Sure, there are interesting ideas throughout but too much ludicrosity just weighs everything down. Perhaps a less pretentious tone would have freed the ideas to reach some sort of exhilarating potential.

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world. The plot was interesting but this film didnt do it justice

Although I did enjoy this movie it took me about half an hour to fully understand the plot. I had read the review on the back but it sort of jumped back and forth but half an hour into it I understood it. It was really well done in my opinion and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie

Very interesting cinematography and excellent acting by Jackman. The three intertwining settings can make it a little weird and confusing at first, but by the end creates something unusual and captivating.

What is there to say about this movie? All i can say is DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ORDERING THIS MOVIE!! I am a huge Hugh JAckman and even i could not through the first 40 minutes of this film. I had to turn it off. Sorry but i would not waste one of your rentals on this at all. In fact i am a little pissed off that i wasted mine with getting this movie. Sorry Hugh but it is just a terrible movie and what on earth made you think it was great is beyond me!!

It was a relief when she finally died...confusing, aimless and disjointed - and a pity because the premise for the story sounded compelling. I stuck with it but was very disappointed - normally I could watch Hugh Jackman read names out of a phone book but bald and in a bubble - clearly I wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time!

I enjoyed this very much, I read the graphic novel (comic book) first which made the movie easy to understand. The movie and the graphic novel were created together and compliment each other very well. I think the plot is fairly simple and easy to comprehend once you get the overall picture: Man's wife is sick and he is trying to find a cure, emotion ensues.

Saw Requiem for a Dream and thought I'd be in for another compelling movie. Sure, the cinematography is great as are the visual effects, but the story didn't really grab me as such. Very slow paced and jumps to different time frames with little explanation or any references. I wanted to like this film but I could watch about 50minutes until I thought, "This movie just isn't grabbing me". Maybe it would have been better if it were about 3hrs and Aronofsky had invested more time in the screenplay for character development and to add some cohesion to the plot. 100mins is nowhere near enough time for a director of his talents.

Thoroughly, genuinely appalling. Firstly the synopsis is not about the film, but a story within the story. Much of it is pretty but it is a contrived mishmash of new age fluff and emotive pap. Considering it jumps within 3 storylines it is surprisingly plotless. Not for anyone with a working Y chromosone. No.

What an amazing movie. You've got to sit and watch it all the way through (no getting up for a cuppa in the middle) or you'll miss something. It traverses through the four stages of his thoughts, from the present, to writing of the final chapter, to what occured before she passed away and then his own journey of discovery. Unless you are in tune and happy with the inner emotions and how they work, then you'll love this movie ... if you aren't you might think it was a little slow ... I absolutely loved it
