MEDIUM LEVEL VIOLENCE

Director: Sergio Leone
Actors: Clint Eastwood, S. Rupp, John Wells, Marianne Koch, W. Lukschy, Joe Edger

Clint Eastwood's legendary Man With No Name makes his powerful debut in this thrilling, action-packed "new breed of western" (Motion Picture Herald) from the acclaimed director of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and For A Few Dollars More. Exploding with blistering shoot-outs, dynamic performances and atmospheric cinematography, it's an undisputed classic of the genre. A mysterious gunman (Eastwood) has just arrived in San Miguel, a grim, dusty border town where two rival bands of smugglers are terrorising the impoverished citizens. A master of the "quick-draw," the stranger soon receives offers of employment from each gang. But his loyalty cannot be bought; he accepts both jobs ... and sets in motion a plan to destroy both groups of criminals, pitting one against the other in a series of brilliantly orchestrated set-ups, showdowns and deadly confrontations.

The first of Leone's "Dollars" trilogy, this remake of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo is just as fabulous as the film it was based on. Eastwood's in good form, as he works rival gangs against each other. There's a good sense of humour to it as well. Not overt comedy, just character's reactions to some of the situations. Well worth the time to check it out. Also worth checking out the original Yojimbo, and if you're really keen, the Bruce Willis film Last Man Standing, just to see three versions of the same story, all of them good.

Although a splendid piece by the western genre legend, Sergio Leone; those that believe this is an original innovative project need to watch Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo

This movie was an important milestone in bringing us Spaghetti Westerns, a whole new genre. Although violent, it contains humour, though a bit laboured, and an incredible array of ugly men, who just seemed to get uglier with "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good The Bad And The Ugly", proving that you don't have to look like George Clooney to hit the big screen! And who can forget the extraordinary eyes of the actress who played Marisol? I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again after all these years, and would like to see an issue of a box set of Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns. Excellent movies all!
